779.0. "v3.4 osms platter mixups" by CSC32::R_ROBERTSON () Tue Feb 11 1997 19:38

        My customer has a alpha 2100 4/275 alpha vms v6.2 v3.4 osms
rw536 (2 meter cable) to dwzza to kzpsa. Alpscsi02_070
        patch is installed.

They have had 3 instances of platter mixups since going
to v3.4 of osms. Errorlog is only logging PKC0 detected
timeouts (error type 0104),eg. bus reset cnt= 87760836
        arb retry = 65531, sel retry=65533,busy retry=63536.

during the last occurance jbutil showed
        drive 0 jba122 online
        drive 1 empty online
        drive 2 jba144 online ejected
        drive 3 jba286 online

        mc scsi map showed
        element 1 empty
        element 2 from 82 (jba142/143)
        element 3 from 83 (jba144/145)
        element 4 from 154(jba286/287)

Largest interval between mixups has been 1 week, the juke
is 4 years old and heavily used. The errorlog really isn't
telling me that much. My first inclination is to get the
field onsite open the door run test 16 (drive i/o) for
say 100 passes. They did not have this problem before going
to v3.4 but a 4 year old rw536 that has been heavily used
could be causing this but just going to v3.4 makes me wonder.
During this last mixup the scsi utility was used to place things
back like osms thought they were and he has been working fine
        for two days now.

Do this as an IPMT. I have another IPMT with similar problems
using a RW536. Maybe the correction to that problem will help
    this customer.
