7.0. "Moderation Issues" by WRKSYS::MARKEY (Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging) Wed Oct 09 1991 17:01

This note is intended for issues regarding the moderation of the
    notesfile.

    It is intended for:

    	o Questions of policy

    	o Proposals of policy

    	o Gripes aired

If you object to something I've done as moderator
(deleted a note, whatever) feel free to voice your
objection (calmly) here. I'm not delicate, and I
like to think that the things I do as moderator are
the things that the readers generally want me to do.

You may *NOT* criticize another noter here. If you have a complaint
about another noter, please correspond to me via MAIL.

7.1Hey, MUSIC's a democracy, right?CUPMK::T_THEOWhat do you know for sure?Tue Feb 16 1993 16:3318

    Proposal:

The recent "bashing" topics have prompted me to consider establishing
some sort of guideline as to what forum these types of replies should
appear. There are always differences of opinion on any subject. IMO
both views have equal validity and should be allowed to be posted.

What is your position on separate and different topics for fans and
critics of any particular artist or band? Do you feel that one all
encompassing topic, ie; The Official BASHING Topic, would be suffcient?
Or, should we have a "***** is Great" and "***** Stinks" topics.

Please post your replies in Note 25.

    Thanks,

    Tim / MUSIC Mod

I think there are actually (at least) three possibilities are (using
the Sting topic as an example):

    1) Allow bashing in "Sting" main topic

    2) Require bashing to be done in separate Sting bashing topic

    3) Require all bashing to be done in one generic "bashing" topic

    I favor (2)
7.3Copyright issues: Ahead of our timeDREGS::BLICKSTEINdbMon Jan 31 1994 13:5311
Historically, the moderators of this and other conferences have taken
some abuse for not allowing the posting of copyrighted material (which
    constitutes a copyright infringement).

I wanted to mention that CompuServe has been allowing people to post
copyrighted material for awhile (which I always found surprising)
and they are now being sued for copyright violation. In response
to the suit, Compuserve no longer allows posting of copyrighted
    material.

Historically, the moderators have been light handed in their actions
within MUSIC... don't want to stiffle the artisits. 8) Of the many
conferences I read and/or moderate, MUSIC is a refreshing change.

    Thanks all!

7.5Thanks, I've been great. 8)CUPMK::T_THEOIt's been a lovely rideFri May 20 1994 17:3317
Well folks, the shoe has dropped. My last day at Digital will be
    Tuesday, May 24th.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I have thoroughly
enjoyed the dialog, information and opinion sharing in MUSIC.
Through the hectic days of the past couple of years MUSIC and
the people who read and write to it have offered me a retreat.

I leave moderating the conference to db and Brian Markey, and if
luck has it they won't kill each other. 8) And special thanks to
Mr Meany for hosting this conference.

Thanks and regards to the general MUSIC public!

    Sincerely,

    Tim Theo

Good luck Tim, wherever life takes you. As I tell people, "there is
life after Digital". I hope our paths cross from time to time.

I appreciate you stepping up to the plate and moderating the conference
when my time was done... and from all accounts, you did a great job!

However, I certainly would not count on me as a moderator for this
conference... I'm a contractor and I could be out of here on very short
notice. I hope someone is willing to step forward like you did back in
    '92.

    Brian

P.S. Dave and I are just trying to breathe a little life into the
party... we could be dissin' each other one minute and kissin'
each other (well, almost) the next. :-)

Yes, Good luck to you Tim and many thanks.

Brian and I promise not to kill each other. We enjoy knocking heads
and its done without any animosity, although I've come to accept that
people are prone to see it that way and that unfortunately there's no
much I can do about that. I'd like to think that Brian and I
demonstrate that you can disagree with someone without harboring any
    anger towards them.

I seem to be back in the position of moderator only by virtue of
all the other moderators having left the company (Brian is now a
contractor). However, I've never volunteered and am not interested
in taking any responsibility for this conference.

I am going to respond with the "Please find another home" option.

However, if there are any souls out there willing to offer their
services as moderator or a "home" for the file, let me know.

Subj:	*IMPORTANT* Regarding MR4SRV::MUSIC Notes Conference

As you are no doubt aware, MRO4 is closing in mid-October. As all
occupants are moving to new buildings and systems, the MR4SRV cluster
will be shutdown permanently once everyone has moved out of the building.

All data currently located on MR4SRV must be relocated to other systems
or it will be lost when MR4SRV is shut down.

You are currently listed as the moderator for the MR4SRV Notes Conference
listed in this message's subject line. Please respond to this message
as quickly as possible and let us know if you would like us to:

	- move this conference to another node of your choosing
	- have us find a new system for this conference

We apologize for the short notice, but the decision to close MRO4 was made
only recently. Thank you for your help and quick response,

It should be noted that at this point, MUSIC is effectively
un-moderated. Brian's contract at Digital has expired and he's
    gone.

There are several other people with moderator privs, but to the best
of my knowledge there are no official moderators.

If anyone has the ability to host/moderate this conference let me know.

I can moderate, if need be, but there's no way I could host.
I tried that once and it didn't work too well. Maybe I should
have asked the system manager before I created ANT::HEAVY_METAL.

I also could moderate if needed, but can't host. If you really need
a new host, you might want to check with Jeff KDX200::Cooper, as he
seems to be putting together a notes empire nowadays. :-)
