406.0. "Little Feat" by MSDOA::PWHEELER (Get Yer Ya Yas Out) Thu Apr 22 1993 18:49

I read in the most recent Rolling Stone magazine that Richie
Hayward has left Little Feat, has anybody else heard anything?

While we are at it, let's make this the official Little Feat
    note.

I saw a rerun of the old F Troop show recently, and they had
a band on there making fun of the mid 60s rock bands. 2 of the
people who were in this band were Lowell George and Richie
    Hayward. Strange.

I know that Heyward is currently on tour with Paul Rodgers' latest project
(with guitarist Neil Schon of Journey). They are appearing at the Paradise
in Boston on May 1st, performing stuff from the new album and older stuff
from Bad Company and Free.

Oh, man, a topic on just about my favoritest band on the face of the
    earth!

I saw Feat many times in the 70's, prior to Lowell George's untimely
death from excess. I consider them to be innovators on the scale of
Steely Dan and Monk. Masters of slow rock. Way cool slide guitar
playing: I ran out and bought a compressor for my guitar the day after
I saw Lowell using one at the Orpheum in late 70's.

The modern incarnation of Feat I also like, but IMHO they are not the
    innovators the original lineup were.  Lowell wrote memorable songs;
the more recent ditties are good, but not great, tunes.

Along with six friends, I made a trip some years back to catch the
first reunion gig of Feat at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage
Festival: The Radiators opened, followed by Feat with special guest
Bonnie Raitt. From what I can recall of that weekend, it was a great
show: they played some old stuff, plus tunes off their album that had
    just been released.

I want to hear more about how they managed to work a 60's rock
band into an episode of F-troop!

    RE: .2

Funny you happen to mention the Orpheum show ...

I got off work one night and headed for a buddy's house where there was
supposed to be a party going on. Unfortunately, it was my buddy's
younger sister that was having the party. However, one of the kids
had a ticket to a concert that night for sale for $5... none of them
had ever heard of Little Feat... I grabbed the ticket and headed
in-town. The seat assignment on the ticket was a numerical code, so
I didn't know where I was going to be seated .... The usherette lead
me down the center row until, much to never ending pleasure, she seated
me in the very first row, where even more surprisingly, were several
friends of mine (including the buddy whose house I had gone to
earlier). This is/was/will_alway_be my very fav concert. To see LF
from just a few _feat_ away was just the best... and when they all
came out to the front of the stage to to do "Don't Bogart That Joint"
    ... we didn't !!!

Also, throughout the show, Lowell would walk offstage to the wings
where I could see him do a few lines and a big hit of oxygen ...

The F-Troop episode was real. My mind is hazy on the details but it
had something to do with bringing a "progressive" group from the
East in to perform for the troops. The troops didn't care for the
band so they were going to head home. I believe the Indians loved
them and they did a gig for them. The end had everyone signing some
    paisley love song.

On the concert front. I saw the Feat many times back in the early
70's. Mostly at the Music Hall playing with either Skynard or ZZ
top. I did see them one time in the Garden with I believe both
Skynard and ZZ Top and then "Headliner" was Traffic. Very bizzare
and diverse show to say the least.

406.7The BedbugsLEDS::ORSIBeenFlushedFromTheBathroomOfYourHeartFri Apr 23 1993 13:4314
If I remember correctly, Cpl Agarn (Larry Storch) was in charge of
getting the orchestra for the Cavalry Ball. For some reason, the
orchestra he originally booked couldn't make it, so the agent sent
another band called The Bedbugs. Lowell George had most of the speaking
lines, and even lip-synched a couple of numbers while playing an acoustic
guitar. At the time, he was in a local LA band called (I think) The
Friends of Distinction or The Fraternity of Man or something like that.
It was the same band that did "Don't Bogart.." on the Easy Rider
     sound track.

     It's all too beautiful

406.8bed bugs on van dykeCSLALL::WEWINGFri Apr 23 1993 20:1220
'don't bogart that joint' was the fraternity of man.

also, a dick van dyke show (i believe) had a group called
the bedbugs in an episode. i think it was chad and jeremy.
i guess the bedbugs was a 'thinly' veiled reference to the
    beatles.

saw little feat in the concert before lowell died.
memory fades with age but i do remember a halloween
concert with little feat that bcn broadcast live.
(could have been the same concerts?!?)
i have seen them a few times but can't recall details.
    it's tough to get old!
i caught the current little feat on the nashville
network the other night. i missed the first half
but they apparently did a 30 minute show (kind of
    austin ciyt limits-esque).

i often order triped guacamole in restaurants :-)

Interesting that the discussion should have come just before Nick actually
aired that episode (last nite in fact). This 'incarnation' would seem
to be maybe just before "fraternity of man" (episode was dated 1967).
The band had a one word name that started with 'F' according to the
    credits.

We saw Little Feat last night at the Cape Cod Melody Tent, from
the second row, right next to the soundboard.

All I can say is - WOW!! A great show, a nice crowd and what
has to be one of the tightest bands I've ever seen. It was
worth the 2 hour ride each way and the lack of sleep I'm
    suffering from today!!!

> Can anyone tell me what album has "Dixie Chicken" on it?

Just a guess, but it's probably on the album entitled 'Dixie Chicken'.

(Of course, that's not a promise - for instance, both Zep's "Houses Of The
Holy" and Queen's "Sheer Heart Attack" are not on the albums with the same
name.)

> And/or can anyone E-mail me the complete words to that song?

I'll send ya mail - I think I can remember them off the top of my head.

I read in Rolling Stone magazine that he had left. This
was before July 9th. They were reviewing a new release,
possibly Buddy Guys last one, and referred to Richie as
    former drummer for Little Feat.

Maybe it's true; you can't believe everything you read....

Now that I think about it, I wrote the basenote to find out
about Richie having left the band, that was in April.

Maybe he didn't leave, maybe he left and came back, who knows?

Our own female singer (from Denmark) Sanne Salomonsen is in
the process of making a CD with Little Feat! This is her
chance to get world-wide recognition - not many from this
small country get a possibility like this. It should be on
the streets within two months or so. Just wait for it, she
	surely can wail...

	Go for it, Sanne!

The new CD is titled 'Language Of The Heart', available in the US in
August. It has been out a few months here in DK; it sounds as expected:
typical Little Feat, just with another singer - and I like it! The US
edition is expected to picture Sanne Salomonsen with LF on the cover
(which is not the case in DK). Sanne is 38, a redhair femme fatale
with a thunderous stage charisma - she's now moving to LA in hope of
recognition over there - in hope of $$$ also, I suspect. Oh well..
