693.0. "The Stone Roses" by BUSY::BUSY::SLABOUNTY (Trouble with a capital 'T') Mon Jan 23 1995 21:02

    	How about The Stone Roses?

"Love Spreads" is a really good alternative/rock guitar-
oriented song, but I have to wonder about the rest of their
stuff as I do all alternative bands.

    	Any opinions?

693.1check 'em out, you won't be disappointedWOTVAX::STONEGTemperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....Tue Jan 24 1995 11:3326

Yeah, stop wondering and go and buy the albums ! %^)

They've done two albums, the eponymously titled 'The Stone Roses' and the
new one, 'The Second Coming'. They've also released quite a few singles
which aren't on either album, and various remixes...

'Fools Gold' is probably the single remix everyone has heard of, great
rhythms, guitars etc... but worth checking out 'Sally Cinammon',
'Mersey Paradise' and 'She Bangs the Drums' as well...

Everything this band has done is real quality stuff, and as long as you
aren't expecting 'The Second Coming' to be even better than 'The Stone
Roses' I don't think you'll be disappointed with either.

A lot of people have knocked them for taking 5 years between albums and
for turning out a second album which sounds like a continuation of the
first. Strangely, these same people sing the praises of half a dozen
other bands who've been and gone (or are going) and whose only claim to
fame was/is to sound like a conterfeit Stone Roses....

...still, no accounting for taste I suppose... %^/

The floor is all yours, Matt.

I just listened to this album yesterday. It was very intense; one of
the best albums I have heard recently!

693.3Have you found any of the singles yet ?WOTVAX::STONEGTemperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....Tue May 16 1995 11:537

...glad you liked it. They're currently playing a few dates around
Europe with a new drummer - Reni either jumped or was pushed a month or
two back - then they're headlining the Main stage at Glastonbury
festival on the saturday (I think).

    Graham,

Thanks for the warning, I'll avoid them at all costs. If I get the
    funds to go that is.

    Barry,

if you haven't got the funds (and the ticket) sorted by now, then it's
    probably too late anyway...

    Graham

still, you could always avoid them on Channel 4 instead !

Great band....They headline the Feile festival here in Ireland in
the summer also...Was it a recording dispute that was the delay in
the second comming album arriving....worth it though
