I also have that album and still play it every once in a while. I
will try to remember to look for it tonite. I haven't heard of
John Stewart performing in a long time. Last time he was here
was at Tanglewood about 6 months after that album came out.

| John Stewart made a great abum in the early '70s called "California
Bloodlines." Other songs included "Omaha Rainbow", "July You're a
Woman," "Pirates of Stone County Road", among others.

I think there was... something like "Music into Gold".... I think
some of the words were "People out there turning music into Gold..."

| Is this the "song" on which Stevie Nicks sings backup? I use the term
loosely as this is easily one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

| I used to have the album with "Gold" on it as well (it wasn't
"California Bloodlines).. come to think of it, I think "Lost her in the
Sun" was on the same one as "Gold". It might have been called "Bombs
Away Dream Babies". I know that was the name of one of his records...

Just after I wrote a note here 4 years ago the conference got archived,
although I had managed to cross-post it to ::FOLK_MUSIC first. At the
time, I had not heard much new stuff from John and after listening to
Trancas and Punch The Big Guy Out a few times, decided they were too
synthed for me, so I wasn't sure if there was going to be more of his
music in my future.
Neon Beach Live and Deep In The Neon, though, were a big improvement,
especially the latter, which is just John, a bass player and an
enthusiastic audience. Two standouts are "July You're A Woman" ("Pat
Boone called me. Pat Boone called ME!") and "Daydream Believer", both
of which allow John to explain how his tunes got bowdlerized ( I
already told you this in my original posting, but didn't know how it
had come about). All of the tunes allow John to show what a good player
he is, which has sometimes gotten hidden in his more highly-produced
recordings.
Another pleasant surprise was Blondes, which is much better than I'd
have thought from the cover or subject matter. In fact, this record sat
in my to-be-played pile for a few years before I listened to it, but
now I like it a lot.
