I *love* this album! It walks the line between rock and country perfectly,
sort of on the country side of the Georgia Satellites, or on the rock side
of the Desert Rose Band. This Boston-based band is led by songwriters Jamie
Walker (vocals, guitar) and Tim Giovanniello (vocals, guitar), along with
Paul Kochanski (vocals, bass), Jom Gambino (vocals, piano, organ) and Joe
Donnelly (vocals, drums, percussion). I believe that Jamie Walker is a former
member of The Drive ("Doing The Countdown") and also The Lines (who did one
of my favorite local songs of all-time, "One Man Army").

The album opens with a snippet of the closing song, "South Side Of The Sky",
and features some awesome five-part harmonies, right out of The Eagles'
"Seven Bridges Road". Songs like "Beg, Steal or Borrow" and "Circlin'" are
nice mid-tempo songs, tailor-made for radio. "Do Me A Favor" is a rave-up,
similar to the Georgia Satellites. But my favorite material here are the
slower songs, including "Suicide At The Wishing Well", "Southside Of The Sky",
and in particular "Already Gone" (an original tune, not the Eagles' song).

Highly recommended for those who like the genre. I can't wait to check them
out live!

That couldn't possibly be the song of the same name from the Yes
"Fragile" album, right?

Nope, all the songs on the album are originals, no covers.

I just went out this weekend and picked up the tape. I have to
agree, it's great. I find the harmonies remind me of the greatful
dead, anyone else share this thought?

I'm confused. What's your point?

I didn't mean to imply they sound like the Grateful Dead, just that
they came to mind while listening to the steaks.

Who says there has to be a point? Merely commentary.

But I don't understand what you're trying to say!

But hey, who says there has to be communication? Merely words. :-)

I think that should read "you can call", not "you can all". Does that make
more sense now?

No, not really. Does he mean that the Dead aren't harmonious? Does he
mean that the Dead don't do harmony? Does he mean that he hates the
Dead's harmonies?

It's "she" and yes, I think the Dead's vocals, particularly the
attempts at harmony, are pure torture. I do like their blues
	though.

Sorry to baffle you with my obliqueness. *^)

I'm going to have to disagree with that....

The Dead can have some really nice harmonies....Attics of My Life is a
    good example...

That album (American Beauty) has probably the best harmonies of any
Dead album I've ever heard. It's also my all-time favorite album of
theirs, but that's another discussion.

The album prior to that one, Workingman's Dead, also has very interesting
harmonies as far as the arrangments, choice of notes, etc. Unfortunately,
the execution is often a bit off-key. With time I've learned to overlook
that flaw, and I enjoy the album a lot.

Just to put that statement in context, I first got into the Dead's
American Beauty album during a time when I was really into Crosby
Stills and Nash and their ilk. Compared to the parallel harmonies
of CS&N, the interweaving lines of the Dead's harmonies seemed
downright mind-boggling. Just for fun some time, try to pick one
voice in something like "Truckin': and follow it through the song.
It's downright difficult to do so without accidentally slipping onto
another voice's part.

Yeah, they seemed to have a problem with it too. :>

	Gak.

I think it depends on whether you're talking about the Dead in the past or
the Dead in the present. ;^) I love the Dead (thanks Alice) with all my
heart, and listen to their music all the time, but their voices have
deteriorated a bit with age.

That's why Deadheads love collecting all those old tapes. :^)
