532.0. "The best of the 80's II ... MUSIC/RECORDS style" by BUSY::SLABOUNTY (Whose Line Is It Anyway?) Thu Oct 28 1993 12:37

Some of you might remember the poll I did about 4 years ago
[actually 4 years from this coming Monday] to find out the
    	noting public's 100 best albums of the '80's ... well, I
got a request to do another one, so here it is.

I will begin accepting votes on Monday [11/1] and will close
the ballots in 2 or 3 weeks [suggestions for time length
    	are welcome].

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rolling Stone compiled a list of the 100 best albums of the
80's. We're gonna do the same.

Send me what u believe to be the 5 best albums of the 80's,
    	in this format:

    	Band - album title (best)
    			    2nd
    			    3rd
    			    4th
    			    5th

[but leave off the best/2nd/etc., and just list them best to
5th best from top to bottom.]

I will not accept ANY lists before next Tuesday ... I'd like
to give people time to check their collections and/or think
about this for a few days before rattling off 5 titles from
    	the top of their heads.

Points will be awarded as follows:	Best	5
    						2nd	4
    						3rd	3
    						4th	2
    						5th	1

And then all votes will be tallied.

Time limit? Well, I think 2 weeks is enough. Sometime a-
round 11/21 I'll post the results. Ballots will be accepted
'til a couple days before that.

Please send any comments/criticism to MILKWY::SLABOUNTY.
This note will be write-locked 'til the votes are counted.

Vote for your top 5 albums, in order from 1st best to 5th best.

Votes will be tallied as explained in the base note.

1 list of 5 albums will be accepted from each entrant ... so
you can't vote for more than 5 albums.

    	And the ballots are open.

This is tough! Even leaving out live albums and collections, I could still
only narrow it down to these. Sorry, I just can't cut any of them out of
the list.... (in alphabetical order):

Highway To Hell - AC/DC
London Calling - The Clash
Appetite For Destruction - Guns And Roses
Diary Of A Madman/Blizzard Of Oz - Ozzy Osbourne
The Wall - Pink Floyd
Pretenders - Pretenders
Operation:MindCrime - Queensryche
Seconds Of Pleasure - Rockpile
The River - Bruce Springsteen
Unforgettable Fire - U2

I wish I could have picked a Stevie Ray Vaughn album also, but I can't really
pinpoint just one of them as being definitive; it was more his live show
that really sold me on him.

Well, this is my list of the 80's:

1 Introspective - Pet Shop Boys
2 Please - Pet Shop Boys
3 Miami Vice (soundtrack)	- Jan Hammer (+various)
4 Actually - Pet Shop Boys
         5 Bad - Michael Jackson

It's a bit all the same. This is because I don't have much of the
80's...(bought my first CD-player in the winter of 1988)

         If you do a survey about the 90's, I will have more candidates;
2 Unlimited, Eric Clapton, Candy Dulfer...

This is a tough one. The 80's were almost as much of a blur as
the 70's. ;^) It's also hard to select from a wide variety of
tastes. These should be rather well known though.

    1.	Story Teller	Rod Stewart (Ok, I cheated a little)
    2.	Raised on Radio	Journey
    3. Learning to Crawl The Pretenders
