343.0. "Sugarloaf" by CSC32::J_SHUMWAY (mean things on my mind) Wed Dec 30 1992 13:16

Is there a Sugarloaf topic? I didn't not find one. If someone has some
info ie. who was in the band, a little history etc. Caught Green Eyed
Lady on the radio and it resparked my interest.

343.1One of my favorite songs....BSS::STPALY::MOLLERFix it before it breaksWed Dec 30 1992 15:266
I believe that they were from Boulder Colorado. They only had 2 major hits,
"Green Eyed Lady" (I play this one in my MIDI duo), and "Don't Call Us, We'll
Call You"; at least that's all that I remember. I don't think that they
ever relocated to LA or New York, and that alone put a damper on thier future.

Boulder eh? Lets see Tommmy Bolin, Sugarloaf, Pouisette Dart Band (i
think). Who else was Boulder based that made ther mark? Must be
something in the water there :)

I thought Jon Pousette-Dart was from Vermont?? When we'd catch his show
    at
Stowe VT.(Ragged Edge, Baggy knees)clubs , he'd state he was from there
(that was in the late 70's)...maybe he was on something back then...

I suspect you are right about Vermont. I assumed Boulder because
the P-D Band are/were regulars in Estes Park Co. not far from there.
I don't think the original line-up is still with it. Maybe someone
could start a P-D BAND note and enlighten us and or me. :)

Does the Best Of CD put out by Capitol have the *long* version of
"Green Eyed Lady?" There have been other notes (in other files) asking
for the long version, but not CD's were ever mentioned (only LP's).
I'd really like to pick up the long version (I'm making a Hammond B3
    Greatest Hits tape!).

Gosh, it's been a long time since I've been into the MUSIC notesfile!!
A bit about Sugarloaf that I know.

Sugarloaf was a group out of Denver. Previous names of the group were
(amoung others I'm sure) Chocolate Hair and the Galaxys. I remember
seeing them many times as the Galaxys in the mid-60's and Chocolate
Hair in the late 60's early 70's. A friend of the family's son
was their drummer. Myron Pollock left Sugarloaf just prior to _G_E_L_
though there is a special thanks to him on the lp.

The band was basically Jerry Corbetta who played keyboards. The
other personnel seemed to revolve around him. Apparently he was very
difficult to get along with! I believe his demise was his use of
drugs. Probably waiting for his phone to ring..."Don't call us..."
