269.0. "The Hooters" by BAGELS::ROBINSON () Fri Jul 24 1992 18:04

What happened to them? Did they go off to Rock and Roll Heaven?
Does anyone living in the Philly area hear much about/from them any
longer? Did they give up on tours? Even nightclub acts? Its too
bad, they were/are a GREAT group.

They have been playing clubs around the Philadelphia area and added a
female member who plays violin (I think). I'm not sure what the status
    of a record deal is.

    Hi,

They added another member? Did one leave? or just added an extra
person? I know that they replaced a member a few years back before
their last album. I wish they would play clubs up here in the New
    England area.

She's an additional member. The bass player (Andy King) I believe was
the guy that left a couple of years ago. He has a new band doing clubs
around Philadelphia and I think he even opened for the Hooters at one
show (or maybe they opened for Tommy Conwell and the Younb Rumblers).

I'm from the Philly area, and I went to U of D, and I can honestly say, I can't
ever remember any "hometown heroes" getting as much fanfare as the Hooters.
Long before they made national waves (or helped out Cyndi Lauper), they were
HUGE in the tri-state area.

Especially with teenage/college girls, who nearly all wore Hooters pins
(black and white, with a sketch of a melodica - the so called "hooter")
on their denim jackets. But guys dug them a lot too. This always bewildered
me, because I always thought that they were sort of lame, with a kind of
dorm-room idea of ska, and unable to make anything but laughable stabs at
social relevance ("Johnny B." for instance).

At any rate, when they started adding some intriging Celtic sounds to their
songs they gained a bit more of my respect, and then I met Rob Bazillian
backstage at a Richard Thompson show, and he was a nice guy, so they got a
double dose of increased respect from me (which I'm sure means a lot to them).

But I'm not sure how they sort of faded from the horizon, since all indications
seemed to point to them becoming massively popular, along the lines of, oh I
dunno, Bryan Adams or something.

Old note I know.. but they (the Hooters) have a new CD/Tape out..
it sounds ok... so I guess they are alive and kicking :-)
