268.0. "Sade" by BEJVC::EDUCATION () Thu Jul 23 1992 07:55

It might be two years ago, I happened to listen the songs of a British
Band --> SADE. All that I heard were deeply touched my heart with
soft unique style. Unfortunately, I haven't got any of their records
yet and never heard of them as well. Could anyone kindly prvide their
    detailed informations(are they famous?...)?

    Best regards!

As I understand it, Sade is the name of the woman singing and not the
name of the band. She has several albums, and while I haven't heard
every cut on every album, all the cuts I have heard have been good. I
don't know if I'd say she's still famous, but she was on the charts
pretty consistently a few years ago (I haven't heard of a recent
release). Hope this helps. Someone out there might be able to provide
    a discography.

"Stronger than Pride" and "Diamond Life" are two Sade albums.

Also "Promise" is one of her albums. Sade is another classic case
of model turn singer, the difference is she has talent. From some
of her classics like Smooth Operator, Your Love is King, Sweetest
Taboo, Hang On To Your Love, and so on. I've been a big fan of Sade,
from day one, even though she may not have the powerful vocals of a
Pattie Labelle or the real soulful sound of say Aretha Franklin, she
does have a unique style and sound, and a very good band. Sade also
writes most of the lyrics for her songs which happen to be stories
    about her life.

I heard something on MTV in the next room and said to my wife, "That must be
a beautiful woman, 'cause she sure can't sing." Went to look, and it was
Sadie herself.

My favorite song of Sade aint even on one of her albums, it's a song on
the soundtrack to the movie "Absolute Beginners" and called "Killer
Blow", nice jazzoid tune arranged by Gil Evans.

There's another note on Sade somewhere, perhaps a previous version of
this conference.

Anyhow, she was born in Africa, grew up in England, modeled for a while,
then started performing. As far as I know, she made three albums then
got married and gave up her career. I think that's a shame because she
has such a unique voice and style. Not everyone's cup of tea though.

She also had an excellent band, particularly the guy who plays guitar
and sax. I went to one of their concerts in Boston and loved it.

For a band that has that sound, but better tunes, check out Everything
But The Girl 's 'Language of Life'.

If she had quit as mentioned in a previous note, she's back now.
She was the musical guest on Saturday night Live on tv last week.
