237.0. "April Wine" by SUBWAY::BRENNA (It's like deja vu, all over again) Fri May 29 1992 19:55

I was looking through the conference and didn't see a topic about
one of my favorite all-time bands....April Wine. I figured I'd be the
    first to start a topic.
Three of my favorite albums would have to be "Nature of the Beast",
"Harder....Faster", and "Power Play". I also remember seeing a live
video called "April Wine, Live in London". Has anyone seen this? I
have been calling around here in New York to video stores (Tower, etc.)
to see if the video is catalogued, and it isn't. I'd sure like to get a
    copy.
I don't think they have really done anything for quite a few years,
though I see Myles Goodwin CD's in the discount bins every now and
then. Perhaps our friends in Canada may have more info on wheather
April Wine has done anything up there recently.

Thanks for the memory...will be putting Harder..Faster on when I get
    home.
237.2How many albums DO they have?SELL3::FAHELAmalthea Celebras/Silver UnicornFri May 29 1992 20:158
Hmmm...I don't think we HAVE Harder...Faster. We have 4 others (but it
is Friday afternoon...don't ask for titles!)

Funny thing about this band...either you love 'em, or you've never
heard of 'em. I have never met a person who HAS heard of them but not
like them. (Why do I fell like I'm about to be massively corrected?)

I just got 2 [reasonably] old records in the mail last night,
1 being a live album, but have since forgotten the titles. I'll
have to listen to them over the w'end and see how they are.

My favorite is "The Nature of the Beast".

I agree or at least I think I agree, or is it I think, therefore I
    am? :^)

I know what you mean, because I've come across that as well. I
won't even try to articulate it, you've done as well as could be
    expected.

    Greetings from Canada!

April Wine hasn't done anything since around 1987, so you folks aren't
missing anything. The vocalist/songwriter, Myles Goodwyn, put out a
solo release, but it was more like the ballads and softer stuff from
the April Wine albums (it went nowhere, artistically and commercially).

There is a 'boxed set' of 4 CD's available which I believe is called
'The April Wine Collection', on Capitol Records in Canada (the band's
actual label in Canada is Aquarius Records, but Capitol distributes
it); also on Capitol are some totally different single CD collections
covering different phases/facets of the band's career (i.e. 'The Ballads',
'The Rockers', 'The Early Years'), which might be more to one's liking
and more suitable to one's financial status.

April Wine started in the early 70's, and it's quite interesting for
someone like me who heard them from 'square one' to listen to a band
like Pearl Jam, and hear stuff that sounds like it's from the second
April Wine album. Go back further than 'Harder Faster' (if you can,
given the scarcity of their releases, even here in Canada), and you'll
find something a little less heavy, but still pretty cool.

I remember the name, but can't place the music. Didn't they have some
'hits' in the 70's? Can you name some of their songs I might have
    heard?

I was out driving around the states of TX, OK, KS, and MO about 3
weeks ago...all 4 states were playing AMPLE amounts of April Wine
on radio, like they were a new band (or going to tour again?!?).
I mean, we're talking heavy rotation here folks?!

They must be really popular out there or something..was kind of weird.

In today's paper I read an Article that April Wine is planning
a reunion and that they would be heading into the studio . It'll
be good to see them back at it . I've seen them in concert a few
times and they were great .The band has three guitar players that
can all play lead . They trade riffs and each have a different
    	style .

    	I like to Rock !
