215.0. "Andy Pratt" by THEBAY::WIEGLEBDA (Push the button, Frank!) Wed May 06 1992 22:47

In response to the "Whatever happened to..." note (91.66).

I think Andy Pratt may still be kicking around with the occasional
album on obscure labels. He had at least one more album and one more
EP after "Shiver in the Night". The last couple of releases (that I've
heard) had a more spiritual/religious overtone. I think
"Life in the First World" came out around 1981/2. I may have seen
another release after that, but I don't recall any details.

"Records Are Like Life" is a real odd-ball. I once asked him during
a concert intermission (~1979) if he would play something off this one,
but he said "I don't play those songs anymore" and left it at that.

"Andy Pratt" is still a quirky and refreshing album which I play every
now and again. "Resolution" is a strong album with some very powerful
moments of pop beauty. Nice string arrangements by Arif Mardin.
"Shiver in the Night" was something of a mixed bag, with a bunch of
songs which just didn't work for me. I don't recall much about
"Motives" and "Life in the First World". I'll have to give them
    another spin.

    Brief Discography:

     "Records Are Like Life" (Polydor)
     "Andy Pratt" (Columbia)
     "Resolution" (Nemporor)
     "Shiver in the Night" (Arista?)
     "Motives" (Arista?)
"Life in the First World" EP (some small label)
     ????

I'll check the details on these sometime soon.

Dave - thanks for the info ! I agree with you regarding the 3 albums
I have. For me, "Resolution" is one of the best pop albums I've
ever heard. Every song is terrific. And to see Tony Levin, Steve
Gadd, and the Maynard connection was a surprise now that I know of
    them and work in Maynard.

I'd love "Resolution" in CD !!

    Thanks again,
    Tom

Yes, great bass line. As a matter of fact, I saw him do it
years ago at the Rusty Nail in Sunderland and his guitarist
played the bass part with the bassist. So, it was a very
powerful tune, to say the least.

Weird about coincidences - page 7 of the May Metrenome has
a WCGY ad with Boston bands and one is Andy Pratt. He must
    	still be around.

215.5With records in hand....THEBAY::WIEGLEBDAPush the button, Frank!Thu May 07 1992 21:2718
    Some clarification on .0.

"Records Are Like Life" (Polydor, 1970)
    "Andy Pratt" (Columbia, 1973)
    "Resolution" (Nemperor, 1976)
"Shiver in the Night" (Nemperor, 1977)
    "Motives" (Nemperor, 1979)
"Fun in the First World" EP (Enzone, 1982) - Walpole, MA

Andy Mendelson, keyboard player for "Resolution" and "Shiver in the
Night" did a solo album called something like "How Come the Good Guys
Never Win" around 1978/9. He played our school pub and it was okay but
    nothing memorable.

Glad to hear "Resolution" is on CD. My copy is somewhat beat up. Is
"Andy Pratt" also on CD? This one is still probably my favorite.

Hi, Thanks for noting me this note.
    Re 215.2

Is "Avenging Anny" on which album?

    	Annie is on "Andy Pratt".

If "Resolution" is also available, do not hesitate to buy
it. IMO, it's a lot better.

I checked Tower Records WWW site and searched for ANDY PRATT
and nothing was found. If anyone knows of "Resolution" on
    	CD, please let me know.
