    that's right a major springsteen wannabe.  but the music is good.
    when i lived in NH, i would go to see them at hampton beach all the
    time.  i was at the 'casino' most weekends.  
    
    i heard that it went thru some ownership changes in the past couple of
    years, i don't know if the inside has been remodeled... the last time i
    was there the inside was set up like this -
    
    	as you walked in (up the stairs) the bars  were to your left and
    the stage was opposite the bars.  there were some "premium" seats in
    from of the stage and then the rest of the seats were to the sides.
    i've had good viewes from the bar.
    
    john cafferty puts on a good show.  it would be nice to hear if he's
    come out with any new material.  i've got the 'eddie and the cruisers
    lost tapes' cd.  its nothing special.  but if you want a complete
    collection...

    I just watched Eddie II a few nights ago. Althought the flick was mildly
    entertaining, the reason a sat all the way through was because the tunes
    were very good. I've a mind to buy the soundtrack. Good, straight-ahead
    rock-n-roll, but with new and imaginative ideas. Although there are some
    similarities with Bruce Stringbean, I think that Cafferty's songwriting
    is much better. With the exception of Pink Cadillac and a few others,
    I've never even entertained the idea of buying a Springsteen album.

    This guy Cafferty knows how to rock. I like his band, too. Much better
    than E-Street, who always sounded to me like they were trying too hard.
    For these guys not to be more popular, they must make bad videos or
    something.

    These guys used to play out at the Blue Wall at UMass in the late 70s -
    early 80s.  They were alot of fun.  I remember them trying to sell
    45s at the door.

    Hey! I used to play the Blue Wall from about 72 to 74 or so. Just missed
    'em I guess. The Hatch, too.

    ANyone know what happened to guitarist Joel Gramolini?  Is he still
    playing with them??

    I saw Beaver Brown in spring '79 at Bentley College. Freshman year in
    college, somehow I remember it well, and that evening in particular. A
    bunch of the ol' high school crew went to Bentley for the weekend, and
    a great time, but another story....
    
    They definitely sounded like a Springsteen copy, but I was in a MAJOR
    Springsteen phase then, and loved the band. I thought their material
    was good, and that show back in '79 was a good one. They were a very
    tight band, and really rocked the place down. I never bought any of
    their albums, and they may not sound as good after all these years, but
    I would have recommended seeing them at the time.
    
    It would be interesting to see if I enjoy them a second time, 13 years

    As Beaver Brown was around and playing "Springsteen-style" music before
    Springsteen's first album got noticed, I'd hardly lay that title on
    them.  If there were more A&R people that hung out in Newport R.I.
    rather than the Jersey shore in the early 70's, things might have been 
    different for Beaver Brown...

    John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band will be playing
    Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom on July 4th. Tickets are 
    $16.00 and are general admission. There is a dress code.
    No shorts, cutoffs, bathing suits, or bare feet will be
    allowed. Doors open at 7 p.m. You must be 18 and have an
    id. That'll pretty much take care of most of us 8^) Tix 
    are available through ticketmaster.
    
    Did anyone catch Eddie and the Cruisers II last night on 
    channel 56? They cut the movie to pieces.

    In the late 70s I worked at Alhambra's in Westport, Mass and had to
    listen to these guys on several occasions.  They were loud - wicked
    loud, and incredibly boring.  Reminded me of a million bands before
    them, guys with marginal talent who knew a standard chord progression,
    added some high energy drummer and turned up the volume, sort of like
    "rock musak".  (Hmm, that's kinda what I think of Springsteen too.)
    
    But then I'd just come from 2 years in the UMass, Amherst area where the 
    musical talent was phenomenal.  Jean Luc Ponty played regularly down the 
    street from me.  Bands actually successfully attempted Steely Dan.  After 
    stuff like this, Beaver Brown was bland.

    RE: Lost tapes
    
    The only place I could find them was at Coconuts in Framingham.
    The disc runs about a half hour. There are four new songs that
    aren't on any other record and the rest are remixes, acoustic,
    instrumental versions of some songs plus some dialogue from the
    films. The price of the disc was about $12. IMO well worth it.

    Hi....just my two cents on Beaver Brown.
    
    Yup, seen 'em.  Yup, liked 'em.  They were a very Rhode Island based
    band back in the 80's and played the college circuit.  They were not
    phenomenal or anything....just made for a fun 'feel good' kinda show.
    
    They got their name from the name of a color on a can of paint....yes,
    really!
    
    I'm not positive, but I think the Sax player in the original Eddie and
    the Cruisers movie is the real BB sax player.
    
    Cafferty knows the Boss and says he isn't ashamed to have any
    comparisons made.

    On a personal note, I grew up with the Gramolini family in Arlington. 
    Gary is the guitarist for Beaver Brown, and in the early 80's Rolling
    Stone Magazine voted him the best guitarist on the East Coast.  He can
    really cook.
    
    His brother Joel, played around with Southside Johnny for a while, and
    is now back in Arlington gigging around.
    
    Gary is living in Rhode Island.  When Gary and Joel get together, it's
    amazing.
    
    The older brother, Steve, and I were playing ball while these guys were
    learning their licks.   So here I sit at a computer company!!
    Such is life!

    Yup the sax player is Michael "Tunes" Antunes and yes, he
    was in the movie.
