175.0. "Joni Mitchell" by PSYLO::WILSON (Oranges & Lemons) Thu Mar 19 1992 11:38

    Okay, another music note...

    The Joni Mitchell song, "Kerry," ...what LP or LPs is that from?

    Is the rest of the LP any good?

    The album is called "Blue"... (Circa 1970)

    Yeah, in fact I always thought "Carrie" was the weakest cut. Those refs
    to white linen and cologne, and Ms. Mitchell in her "fey" mode... I
    guess it's OK for you to like it though. 8)

    Seriously, it's many people's favorite Joni Mitchell album, and if you
    like pop songwriting there are more than a couple of cuts there worth
    some attention. A couple of things I like -- her guitar-composed songs
    have very different character and coloring than her piano-composed ones.
    She seems to follow her own ear in her songwriting choices -- you don't
    see many bits of earlier styles pop up in her stuff (at least by the
    time of this, her 4th album) -- which is probably what Charles Mingus
    saw in her (not to mention Prince and others who have praised her). - Jay

    Geez, so far everyone has spelled it incorrectly, the title of the
    song is "Carey". Most Joni fans would proabbly place "Blue" as the
    one to own if you only want one album.

175.5And another favourite...CLARID::CHARLESWed Mar 25 1992 08:592

    Unless you have a soft spot for .... "Court & Spark"

    Or a soft spot for "Ladies of The Canyon".
175.7VERGA::CLARKThu Mar 26 1992 19:304
    And, having played "Ladies of the Canyon", "Blue", the true-fine "For
    the Roses", and "Court & Spark" so much that I don't need to hear them
    again for a long long time... I vote "Hejira". Aside from a cut or two
    I skip over, I say it's as good as the others. - Jay

    Well, since this has degraded into X album is the best...

    My personal favourite is Mingus. Very different.
