119.0. "Human Sexual Response" by PIPE::GOOD (Michael Good) Fri Jan 17 1992 14:45

One of Boston's two greatest rock bands from the early 80's, Human
Sexual Response, has finally had their debut album released on CD!

On LP, this was called "Fig. 14", but on CD it's "Fig. 15". One
difference besides the title is that the Human's previously unreleased
song, B*** F***, is included on the CD. Other classic tunes on this
album are "Jackie Onassis" and "What Does Sex Mean To Me?" The mix of
4 vocalists plus guitar/bass/drums still sounds great. There are lots
of great photos in the CD too that weren't included in the original LP.

The guy who signed the Humans and released their first album on
Eat Records is the same guy who now runs Rykodisc. So the album is out
on Eat and distributed by Ryko. I found it in the local music section
of the Tower store in Cambridge.

Now, let's hope their second (and final) album, "In a Roman Mood", will
    appear on CD soon...

This is great news. For those who are unfamiliar with them take
a chance and pick this up. Great music with irreverent themes.

I was the lucky winner of a free copy of "Fig 15" on BCN a couple
of weeks ago (I correctly identified guitarist Rich Gilbert's new
band, the Concussion Ensemble) and have to admit, it's pretty good.
I didn't pick up too much on HSR the first time around, just the stuff
I heard on the radio. On the CD, I noticed the band has a harder sound
than some of the radio hits might lead you to believe. You can really
hear that "Cars" influence in their sound, I think, although the four-
vocalist attack does set them apart. I'm kind of sorry I never got to
see them live now; maybe they'll do a reunion gig?

A core of HSR members went on to play in the Zulus for most of the
80's. Anyone familar with their stuff? Did they release any
    recordings?

Btw, Concussion Ensemble is worth checking out. They're an instrumental
rock band with 5 (sometimes more!) drummers. I caught them last year
outdoors near Harvard Square; sounds like they're starting to hit the
    clubs now.

The Zulus released "Down on the Floor", an EP which is now hard to
find/expensive which sometimes shows up for sale in used record
stores for $35.00 and they had some radio tapes. I think that's it.

I know Rick Berlin (Luna...Berlin Airlift, etc.) used to advertise
in the Phoenix for voice lessons, I wonder if the Zulus (forget his
name) vocalist ever took any from him?

How about a family tree showing all the incarnations, the short-lived
Animal Kingdom, etc. Peter you there?

Yes, Concussion Ensemble has been out in the clubs.

Just fyi, Concussion Ensemble has made to to the finals of the WBCN
Rumble this Thursday night, along with Big Catholic Guilt. Good to see
these guys getting some recognition, hope they make it to disc soon.

119.7Since you're close to Salem...NWACES::HICKERNELLGood rhythms to bad rubbishTue May 31 1994 13:585
I don't know if they have it, but call Newbury Comics on Broadway in
Salem (NH, USA); I think they have the best selection in town.
Lechmere's often has the best prices, if they have what you want.
