99.0. "Heavy Metal Horns - ?" by MELEE::KBEDARD () Thu Dec 19 1991 14:33

Has anyone seen the CD or casette by the Boston group,
Heavy Metal Horns? I saw this band up at Killington, VT.
2 weekends ago and they were FANTASTIC! Some of my friends
live in Boston and see them regularly at the Alley Cat (I think).
From what I hear they've been the talk of the town (Boston) for
the past 6 months or so. They're an 8 piece band; 4 horns, 2
guitars, keyboards, drummer. The interesting thing is, there's
a Jamaican guy, a Mexican (looking) guy, and an Oriental guy,
(all band members) and I think this diversity makes Heavy Metal
Horns unique sound. Most everything they play is their own stuff.
Their drummer looks like Axle Rose. IF you ask me what category
their music fits into, I could only say, Jazz Rock, MAYBE. I
know one thing fur sure, I had a great time listening/dancing to
them and can't wait to see them again.

If anyone knows about these guys; their CD and where to find it,
    I'd appreciate it.

    Kelly.

I've seen the CD(s?) around. You might try 'Newbury Comics' They tend
to favor area bands (esp the Harvard Sq. location). I'm not sure where
you're located, but if you have friends in Boston, they could probably
do it for you. Also, if you're real local, you could try 'Disc
Diggers' in Davis Sq., Somerville. Alot of stuff seems to crawl out
of the wood work and into their bins. Overall, you shouldn't have too
much trouble, I _have_ seen their stuff in stores in the Boston area.
And I agree with you on their stuff, an old friend turned me on to
their stuff a few years ago. Good luck. Hope I've been helpful.

The horn section of HMH's are touring with the Extreme right
now in Europe. They needed a horn section to replicate some of
3 Sides...(their latest release). The horn section that worked on
the album was "unavailable" so thru a mutual friend of the 2 bands,
they hooked up. They do "Hole Hearted","Cupids Dead","Teachers pet",
"War heads", and i believe 1 other song.
I think the HMH are on hold till the tour in Europe is over, which will
    be Dec 23rd.
    informatinally yours,
    Peter

The non-horn players in HMH are being paid by Extreme while the horn
    players are away.
