97.0. "CASSETTE TO CD" by FSOA::HLEINONEN () Tue Dec 17 1991 19:11

Where can I get a cassette tape converted into/onto
CD format in the Worcester/Milford (Massachusetts)
    	area?

A friend of mine made a demo tape and would like to
record it onto a CD as a gift for family. What kind
of cost, time would this be?

    	Thanks

Two to three THOUSAND dollars and about three months' time. Oh, and a
minimum run of 500 to 1000 CD's required.

That's quite an expensive gift. I'd suggest your friend find a
cassette duplication house and have a nice cover made instead.
Depending on length and fanciness of the cover, $2.00 each, no
    minimum quantity required.

Depends on the dupe place. Some do small lots, some don't.

It is also very odd that you would want to make a CD from a cassette.

If the only issue is that a CD is more convenient, I'm sure that you
will find doing this to be not worth the expense.

If the issue is having the superior sound qualities of CD than you're
misunderstanding something - a CD made from a cassette will sound
no better than the original cassette. The advantage of the CD format
is faithful reproduction of sound - it does not "improve" a recording.

Thus the CD will faithfully duplicate all the tape hiss, dropouts
and other cassette related imperfections of the cassette.

I can imagine legitimate reasons for wanting to do this, but I would
guess that this is not a good idea.
