13.6Gotta learn to sing...2183::GILLETTAnd you may ask yourself, 'How do I work this?'Fri Dec 20 1991 16:5811
The band I'm currently playing in has complex demands for vocals.
I need to improve my singing ability, and get some insight into
issues of harmonizing and part singing.

Any ideas? Don't wanna turn into a classical singer or anything
like that, just figure out how to sound a little better and take
more control of my voice.

Thanks,
/Chris

13.10Steve Cancelli in Worcester ..OCTAVE::VIGNEAULTWed Jan 29 1992 11:1219

    One of the best, Steve Cancelli. Don't know if he's still giving
    lessons, but he used to teach at his residence on Burncoat Street.

    I studied with him for a few years, excellent jazz guitarist, also
    Juilliard trained. These days he may be restricting his teaching
    activities quite a bit, I know he was getting fed up with players
    who just wanted to shred and not learn any basic fundamentals.
    Steve is a real purist when it comes to playing.

    Anyway, give him a call, and feel free to mention that I recommended
    him. As I said, I'm not sure he's still teaching.

    Steve Cancelli - (508) 852-7755

    If you do call him, please post whether or not he's still offering
    lessons, I don't want a lot of folks calling him if he isn't.

    Regards, Larry
13.11CARROL::LEFEBVREWatcher of the skiesThu Jan 30 1992 16:1519
    Russ, I *strongly* recommend you call George Mason who conducts his
    lessons at Daddy's Junky Music Store in Portsmouth (it may actually be
    Newington, but it's on Woodbury Ave).

    I take lessons from George and if nothing else, he's very patient and
    is very good with beginners (like me). He teaches accoustic, electric
    and bass guitar lessons. He tailors his lessons around the student's
    needs and will have the student to homework between lessons.

    His lessons are 30 minutes for $10 which from what I can gather is
    typical. He teaches Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 1:00 to 8:00.
    Last time I checked his evenings were booked, but if this teenager is
    available during afternoons, he may be able to fit him in.

    George is in a local (Portsmouth/Kittery) band called Rocket 88.

    I don't have his number with me, but you can call Daddy's to get it.

    Mark.

    This didn't work last time around, but I'll try it again since I don't
    need an immediate answer. (I ended up getting a name from Berkeley,
    but since lost it).

    Anyway, I need a recommendation for a fusion drum teacher. I'm sick of
    these teachers that are 'okay' and have a hard time playing what they
    are trying to teach me. I want a Dave Weckl :'). Any suggestions?

13.13Great Guitar TeacherREGENT::DITTMERWed Feb 19 1992 18:358
    If you're looking for a great guitar teacher, try David in Acton at
    263-2082. He's young (17) and teaches privately for $10/hour(!) The kid
    is sort of a prodigy; very strong on rock, blues, metal, and even
    classical. He's entering Berklee in the fall, but plans to live at home
    and continue teaching. Don't be fooled by his age; this guy is one of the
    best-kept secrets around...

13.15Name of a pretty good piano teacherMACAW::CASSONEWed Mar 18 1992 19:4818
I have noticed from time to time that people have asked
for the name of a piano teacher. I know that I had a
very hard time finding one when my wife and I wanted to
start taking lessons. We have been taking lessons for
about a year from this woman and thought that others
might be looking for a teacher.

We hare happy with her teaching methods, her price and
the fact that she comes to the hous is a big plus (I
don't know if she willing to go to new students houses).

Her information is:

    I recommend Barbara Durost (562-7182), who gives lessons at the First
    Methodist Church on Felton St. in Hudson.

    I've been taking lessons from Barbara for about 2 years (I had

13.18Promotional course, anyone?INDUCE::SHERMANECADSR::Sherman DTN 223-3326Mon Apr 27 1992 21:1637
While at the Spring Music Conference I bumped into Rick Schettino. He's the
senior editor and art director of New England Performer magazine. Anyway, I
was interested in a course he's started teaching entitled, "Artist Promotions:
Promoting Yourself and Your Music." The course costs $30 per person and lasts
for about 4 hours. Here's a description of the course:

The Course: This course will show you how to *properly* promote yourself and
	your music on a professional level.

Topics Include: * Building a better promotional kit
		* How to get free publicity
		* Working with Publicists and Consultants
		* Promotions and Marketing concepts
		* Cost effective advertizing

Includes:	* 4 hours classroom instruction
		* Industry list handouts
		* Choice of related texts (optional)

The Instructor:	Rick is the Publisher, Editor and Art Director for New England
	Performer Magazine. As well as promoting and marketing his own
	business, Rick has done promotions for his and others' bands. He
	studied graphic arts at Minuteman Vocational School and attended
	Berklee College of Music.

This description was taken from the March 1992 issue of NEP. I asked Rick if
he would offer the course again since I couldn't go before. he said that he
is willing to offer a special class on May 11. It will be from 6:30 to 10:30
PM at "his office". That's at 11 Riverside Ave, Suite 4 in Medford, MA.

Here's the deal. If you want to come to the class, notify me before May 8.
We can have as many as 6 attend and it'll be first come, first served. If
there are more than 6 that want to come, I'll still send overflow names to
Rick so that he can set up another class. Thanks!

Steve

    Seeking recommendations for piano teachers in the Needham, Wellesley,

I am looking for recommendations for two types of instructors in or close to
Hudson, Mass:

- Piano instructor - to teach beginning piano to my eight year old
  daughter

- Guitar instructor - to teach me some intermediate-level guitar. I have some
  basic guitar skills that I picked over the years, but feel that I could
  improve my playing by getting some formal instruction. I particularly enjoy
  folk/blues/fingerpicking styles.

Please send mail to CANON::PRATT or Allen Pratt @PKO.

13.27Piano Teacher in Leominster?KNGBUD::FINNERONFri Nov 12 1993 12:4116

    	I'm trying to locate a piano teacher for a 10yr old. She's been
    taking lessons off and on for a couple years. We just recently moved
    to Leominster so we are looking in that area.
    	She was taking lessons from a women in Fitchburg who was/is very
    good the problem was the "age gap". This women is in her 70's and the
    music my daughter was learning was OK for my parents but my daughter
    was just playing notes and didn't know if the songs were suppose to
    sound like that or not. So I guess I'm looking for someone who might
