337.0. "Diaper wraps: sources & recommendations" by DEMON::DEMON::CHALMERS (Ski or die...) Fri Sep 14 1990 19:26

    Help...

    Kathy & I use cloth diapers on Nick, and are very pleased with them.
    However, we're having difficulty finding a diaper wrap that we can live
    with. We've got two Gerber wraps, and are happy with them, but can't find
    additional ones. (Calvert's supposedly carries them, but every time we
    check for them they seem to have 'just run out', or 'have some coming
    in next week'.) We've tried 'Diaperwrap' brand as well, ordered via mail,
    but are not happy with them at all: the velcro material seems too
    'soft' and doesn't adhere very well (the only way we can keep these
    fastened is to immediately put tighter clothes over them.) Therefore,
    I'm looking for advice on the following:

    	- Does anyone know of another source of Gerber wraps other than
    	Calvert's?

    	- Has anyone else had similar problems with 'Diaperwrap' brand?
    	Could it be that we just got three defective wraps?

    	- Can anyone recommend a brand that they're happy with other than
    	the two listed above?

    I seem to remember a conversation regarding this in a previous note, so
    I did a quick DIR/TITLE=Diaper of the current conference as well as V2,
    but the titles were very generic and none mentioned wraps. Pointers are
    welcome.

    Thanks in advance...

    Try "Nikki's"... I got them from a friend, but I believe you
    can acquire them via mail-order or thru a diaper service. I
    think the velcro on these works great.

    try note 261.7 onward. It talks about diaper wraps.
337.3Diaperwraps velcro: OK CIVIC::JANEBNHAS-IS Project ManagementMon Sep 17 1990 17:266
    I had success with the velcro from both Diaperwraps and Nikkys. Maybe
    you did get a bad bunch.

    I've seen another brand around - I think it's Ecology Kids or something
    like that. I've seen them at Sears and in a Toys-backwardsR-Us ad, if
    you want to try something new.
337.4Gerber at Raschel'sSLSTRN::HAYMon Sep 17 1990 21:2412
    I saw a bunch of Gerber brand at Raschel's on Rte. 9 in Westboro a
    couple of weeks ago. Maybe you can make a call before you drive there
    to save the trip if they're out.

    Glad to hear Gerber works, as I've recently decided to change from
    rubber pants to diaper wraps since Samantha (8 months) finally got
    stabbed from a faulty pin. :( I hope I'm as happy with the wraps as I
    was with the rubber pants!

    Regards,
    Cheryl

337.5You might try Wal-MartDPDMAI::RESENDEJust an obsolete childTue Sep 18 1990 02:0415
    We're all the way down in Texas, but Wal-Mart here carries Gerber
    diaper wraps, and seems to always have an ample supply. Perhaps you
    have a Wal-Mart up there that might have them.

    Re the Diaperwraps: We've been using them for the entire 8 months of
    Michael's life, and we're on our third size now. We've had nothing but
    excellent luck with them. The company supposedly guarantees their
    product unconditionally, so I'd suggest you send back the three you're
    unhappy with and get them to send you some new ones. I have to believe
    you just got a bad batch, 'cause we've had no problems with the velcro
    at all.

    Good luck!

    I had problems with Diaperwraps too - I think it may be that my
    son was the chunky type as a baby and would burst out of the
    rather wimpy Velcro. We used Nikkys very happily, the wool ones
    in our case. Yes, quite expensive, but long-lived if you take
    care of them.

    I recently saw Gerber's wraps at Decelle's in Lexington. I know
    they have several other locations too. I think Gerber's is moving
    into the chain drugstore scene too (Osco, CVS, etc) - might be worth
    a look if you have a local mega-drugstore.

337.7Diaperaps Velcro is now largerCURIE::DERAMOFri Sep 21 1990 16:1112
    About a year ago, Diaperaps enlarged the size of the velcro tabs on
    their product. With the earlier, smaller tabs, we often had failure of
    the connection. We've had consistent good luck with the newer tabs.

    Also, Raschels carries Diaperaps seconds -- but in limited sizes and
    quantities. A month ago, they had newborn and extra large plain white
    Diaperaps for $3.99. We had just ordered some mailorder for $8.00, but
    bought some of the x-large size anyway. The defects, if visible, were
    minor.

337.8Wraps AND pinsMINAR::BISHOPFri Sep 21 1990 18:258
    We use various wraps and pins as well. That solves the problem
    of getting loose, and isn't much more work. Most of our wraps
    were bought from the diaper-delivery company. I prefer the wool
    ones we got by mail order, but they're more expensive.

    Of course, you may not be such a belt-and-suspenders type of person!

337.9Biobottoms recommendedWINDY::SHARONSharon StarkstonMon Sep 24 1990 19:2110
    I love the all cotton wraps I get from Biobottoms, a mail order
    company. They have several different styles.

    707.778.7945

    This company also carries all cotton clothing for babies and kids. I
    ought to post in this in the catalog note "one of these days".

    Very high quality, thicker than a Nikky. Not cheap either, but I
    justify them with many planned years of use on multiple children.
337.10SizesCSG001::HAMMONDWed Sep 26 1990 18:0515
    How do BioBottoms compare in size to Diaperwraps Toddler size?
    One thing I learned early on is to buy these things big. Since
    they have the velcro, you can easily adjust them as your child gets
    bigger as skip sizes. The sizes (by weight) on the Diaperwraps are
    virtually useless. (Matthew weighs 25 lbs at 17 months but I've got
    him in the toddler size which says 37-42 lbs!) There is no way that
    these things will fit him when he's 37 lbs (if he's still in diapers
    then.)

    Although I've been happy with the Diaperwraps, I thought that I
    would try another brand to compare durability. I just got some of the
    extra large cotton Nikkys but unfortunately they are too small for
    Matt. I'll hold onto them until baby #2 is born.

    Anyone hit this yet?
337.11Biobottoms, fairly accurate sizingWINDY::SHARONSharon StarkstonWed Sep 26 1990 18:4814
    Biobottoms are sized in pounds and they have been close to accurate
    for my son (a lot more so than most clothing tags!). I found I did
    have to move up about two pounds sooner than the label indicated.

    You could very likely skip sizes, particularly when the child is over
    15 pounds. As I commented, I am figuring on using them for other kids
    so I didn't mind investing in all the sizes to have a just right fit.
    The larger sizes in various styles have snaps just under the velcro
    which you can fasten if your child wants to remove the cover. The
    snaps also help you position the velcro for a comfortable fit.

    The catalog is really nice, call for one.
