480.0. "Elastic Pants or Overalls for Boys?" by RADIA::PERLMAN () Sat Nov 03 1990 14:54

My son can't stand "tight" things around his waist, and also his
fine motor ability makes it difficult for him to manage
belts, zippers, and snaps. The kind of pants that work
best for him are pull on pants with elastic around the waist.
    (without drawstrings), or Oshkosh overalls.

Up until now I've done fine -- it's easy to find pull on pants
and overalls in size 4-7 boys. However, the size range
8 and up does not carry those things -- I guess they assume
older boys wouldn't want that sort of style (other than
sweat pants, which I can sometimes find without the drawstrings
in larger sizes, but I wish he could wear something other
    than sweat pants).

Is there some sort of store with a larger selection, or some
mail order place that I could get size 8 and 10 pull on pants
or overalls? (Oshkosh doesn't make their overalls
in the size 8-14 boys size range, so it's not a matter of finding
    a larger store there).

Have you tried those "rugby sytle" pants? They do have a drawstring but
you usually don't need to use the drawstring at all because the elastic
is tight enough. I have seen them in some stores but have also seen
alot of them in catalogs (Brights Creek, LL Bean, etc). They make them
in shorts as well for the summer.

    There's also sweatpants.

What about the Lands End. Their pants have a zipper and elastic. I just
ordered the cords for my son's uniform.

Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for, but how about
"farmer style" jeans? Sears has a good variety, but usually denim in
different varieties is all that's offered.

Are you near Raschels? With them it's kind of like "if it's out there
it's in here" They seem to have almost ANYTHING made for kids up to
    size 14.

The Biobottoms catalog has several styles of pants with elastic
waistbands up to size 14. Most of their stuff is all-cotton - I don't
know whether you'd consider this a plus or a minus. I love cotton!
