    Sue,
My cousin and his wife are both CPA's (accountants) and when both
of the their daughters were born they sent very amusing announcements
that sounded like the creation of a new corporation (a merger entered
by two parties...etc) and a statement of income etc. Very cute.

I was thinking of trying to produce a letter-style announcement
(complete with scanned images, etc) describing our experience and
send it out - this would cut out all the hand-writing and hence cut
down the time between the baby's birth and the announcement arrivals.

I am also due in May.

Someone else I know prepared hand-made cards with cardboard and lace,
and then glued a picture of the new-born and a picture of the couple
    to it. Pretty.

Depends, I guess on the following:

    1/ your artistic abilities
2/ availablility of materials (equipment, etc)
    3/ budget!
4/ the time you have to do something special

How about a full-page ad in your local paper!
    Now I am getting silly ! 8-) 8-)

I sent a photo card (like the ones people send at Christmas time). The
photo was his hospital picture. Under the photo, the standard
information (height, weight etc) was imprinted. I got LOTS of positive
feedback from it - people loved to be able to see the baby photo, and
it was larger that a ususal photo. I got it from a mailorder place - if
you are interested, I can try and find it for you.

A friend of mine wrote a humorous paragraph or two about how their little
girl was born....the labor and stuff...it was great!

I LOVE to write funny jingles and short poems. If you want to contact
me off line and give me some details..(family...etc.) I'd be happy to
gie it a shot. (DTN 432-7831)

If you're sports buffs, there are birth announcement companies who will
take a photo and stats and make it into a baseball card. Friends of
mine did it for the birth of their first.

A cousin sent out her birth announcement at Christmas, 2 months after
the birth, but hilarious. It was a picture card, of the three of them,
baby crying, in the middle, with the two parents with dark shadows
under their eyes, various baby stuff about, plus baby books, chinese
take out, etc. The legend was "Peace on Earth" followed by the baby's
    name and details.

One announcement I remember as especially cute was one that unfolded
like a diaper, complete with a pin. Inside were all the vital stats.

I remember seeing some unique designs in the Expecting magazine, and I
think in the back of Parents magazine as well. There are a couple cute
desgins in the Robert's Co. (of Ashland MA) for those who might be
involved in Fire or Emergency work.

I thought the birth announcement we sent out for our son last year was
cute, but the responses we received were really exceptional. The
announcement is a large square card that looks like the boards used on
movie sets to indicate the scene (and take) about to be shot (you
know...the board held by the person who runs in front of the camera
to announce the scene and take between the director yelling "Lights!
Camera!" and then "Action!"). I don't remember the exact wording on the
announcement, but it goes something like:

    Star: Matthew Jacob Donchin
    Premiere: June 7, 1991
    Producer: Nancy
    Director: Dale
    Special Assistant: Jamie
(it also includes his height and weight and length, but I can't
    remember the titles)

My husband really liked this announcement because it had a slot for our
daughter's name. Her birth announcement (she was our first) had a
graphic with two baby shoes with the wording, "Our greatest feat!")

One thing I didn't realize when we ordered Matt's announcements,
though, was because they were oversized, we had to pay $.39 to mail
each one (prospective parents take note). What a fortune!

Nice but especially unique announcements can be had from H&F Products,
    Inc., 3734 W. 95th Street, Leawood, KS 66206. 800-338-4401. You've
probably seen their work -- cards with a blue ribbon or pink ribbon on
top, some balloons, declaring "IT's a _______" with names, weight and
date. They'll send you a catalogue. 50 announcements of the above
type, with you tying the ribbon, are $32.95. An extra 8.75 if they tye
    it.

I once got a wedding announcement which had a pinch of confetti
in it. I'm not sure why, but it made the announcement seem far
more festive and special to me. You could do that easily for
    a birth announcement as well.

I thought of having a reproduction of my daughter's footprint
on her announcement, but didn't get around to it, alas. That
would have been another nice touch (especially in her case, as
    she was so small).

1280.16Birth Announcements to Order?OAXCEL::FLYNNMon Jan 27 1992 17:109
Does anyone know of a store in the Maynard/Concord or even Leominster,
MA area that has nice birth announcements to order? I am looking for
the kind that you personalize, like a wedding announcement.

I will try the Quill and Press in Acton. Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

Have you tried going to your Personnel Dept? I thought
I saw birth announcements in the same book they have
    to order wedding invitations.

Another place is Paperama. Not sure if there is one
    in your area.

When I was looking to order wedding invitations they had
a section in the back of the book for graduations, births etc.

    Good Luck,

Yes, check with your personnel department....There are birth
announcments in the back of the book. And I would think you get a
better deal than the Quill and Press.. 15% off.

I just went to Personnel at PKO3 and yes, they have 2 birth
announcements in their invitation book. As an employee, we receive
40% off of the list price! Not bad ...
