1032.0. "Fibroids in the Uterus" by USWAV1::MANEY () Tue Jul 16 1991 14:25

    Hi Everyone,

    I'm Lisa Barry, a DEC Tag, currently using the previous DEC Tag's
    account at OFO.

    I'm due on November 2nd. I was wondering... when I went for my
    ultra sound it showed three fibroid tumors in the wall of the uterus,
    has anyone ever heard of this before? How does it affect pregnancy and
    the birth?

    I'm curious. My OB said it should not affect any of the process. I was
    thinking, when you have these, does it make the baby come earlier...
    due to having less room in the uterus? I meant to ask him on my
    last visit and I forgot.

    Thanks for sharing any information/experiences you may have had.

    Lisa

    Thanks for answering Lori, I hope a go a little early. But who knows.
    The fibroids really bugged me when I first heard. The word tumor,
    scares the heck out of me. But I'm so glad I'm having a baby. I
    really cannot wait.

    Thanks again.

    As I just answered in another note--yours???--it's nothing to worry
    about. Give me a call if you like, or I'll try to get enough time to
    enter everything I know in here (actually, that shouldn't take tooo
    long *8-) ) I had them and we all survived great!!

1032.4I have a fibroid too!HEART::VAN_KESSELMon Sep 09 1991 13:2222
Hi,

I am expecting my first child at the end of January.
A month ago, they found a large fibroid on my womb (the outside).

They explained to me it was a piece of muscle tissue which
sound far friendlier than 'tumor' and apparently I have had it for a long
time. It very rarely causes any problems before pregnancy other
than possible heavy periods.

Fibroids seem to be extremely common. Everyone knows someone who
has or had one. My mother knows several people with fibroids who have
had large families without any problems. And that was over 30 years ago!

They have told me they will not remove the fibroid
as this will cause a weakness in the wall of the uterus which could
be problematic for a future pregnancy. I don't think there is any
cause for worries here.

    Thanks all for your answers...I'm now here in DAS and have my own
    account and name, Lisa Barry.

    The fibroids haven't given me any problem, I'm just hoping I get to
    go a little earlier, well thats what I say now, I think when its
    actually time to go I'll be quite nervous. So far so good though.

    FWIW they also told me they would not remove the fibroids because
    it would make a weakening in the wall of my uterus, thus could mean
    problems for future pregnancies.

    I am so excited......

    Thanks for your answers......

1032.6don't count on going earlyAYOV10::JEFFREYThu Oct 03 1991 10:159
    Don't get your hopes up, Lisa, on going early ... I, too, had a
    fibroid which didn't cause any problems ... and Ben arrived ten days
    late, none the worse for wear apart from very dry skin.

    He was worth the wait, though ...

    Best of luck
