949.1When The Lord Created FathersMR4DEC::MALLENMon Jun 10 1991 19:2156
     		     When The Lord Created Fathers

Whe the good Lord was crating Fathers He started with a tall frame.

And a female angel nearby, said "What Kind of Father is that? If you
are going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put
Fathers up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without
kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child
    without a lot of stooping".

And God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him child-size, who would
children have to look up to?"

And when God made a Father's hands, they were large and sinewy.

And the angel shook her head sadly and said, "Do you know what you're
doing? Large hands are clumsy They can't manage diaper pins, small
buttoms, rubber bands on pony tails or even remove splinters caused by
    baseball bats."

And God smiled and said, "I know, but they're large enough for everything a
small boy empties from his pockets at the end of the day...yet small
enough to cup a child's face in his hands."

And then God molded long, slim legs and broad shoulders.

And the angel nearly had a heart attack. "Boy, this is the end of the
week all right," she clucked. "Do you realize you just made a Father
without a lap? How is he going to pull a child close to him without the
    kid falling between his legs?"

And God smiled and said, "A Mother needs a lap. A Father needs strong
shoulders to pull a sled, balance a boy on a bicycle, or hold a sleepy
head on the way home from the circus."

God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had
ever seen when the angel could contain herself no longer. "That's not
fair. Do you honestly think those large boats are going to dig out of
bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small
birthday party without crushing at least three of the guests?"

And God smiled and said, "They'll work. You'll see. They'll support a
small child who want to `ride a horse to Banbury Cross,' or scare off
mice at the summer cabin, or display shoes that will be a challenge to
    fill."

God worked throughout the night, giving the Father few words, but a
firm, authoritative voice; eyes that saw everything, but remained calm
    and tolerant.

Finally, almost as an afterthought, He added tears. Then He turned to
the angel and said, "Now, are you satisfied that he can love as much as
    a Mother?"

    The angel shutteth up.

949.2Some more ....BCSE::WEIERPatty, DTN 381-0877Thu Jun 13 1991 18:5254

    Here's two that my son brought home from school;

    Fathers are very special
They are big and tough and strong.
They help us when we're in trouble
and play with us all day long.
I'm so glad that I have
a dad as special as you
    to make all things better
    the whole year through.

This should ring a bell .... it was typed up on a piece of paper with a
finger-paint hand print on the bottom.

    Sometimes you get discouraged
    because I am so small
    and always leaving fingerprints
    on furniture and walls.

But every day I'm growing up
and soon I'll be so tall
    and all those little fingerprints
    will be hard to recall.

    Sooo... here's a final fingerprint
you need not wash at all
to last long into the future
when they're absent from the wall.

This is one that I got on Mother's day, but you could alter it for
    Father's day. Include a small gift-wrapped box w/ a bow or whatever.

This is a very special gift
    that you can never see.

The reason it's so special is
it's just to you from me.

    Whenever you are lonely
    or even feeling blue.

You only have to hold this gift
and know I think of you.

    You never can unwrap it;
    please leave the ribbon tied.

Just hold the box close to your heart,
    it's filled with love inside.

My sister does calligraphy. If anyone would like her name and number,
you can send me mail. She lives in central MA, but she has done some
work for non-local people and mailed the results.
