875.0. "Drumlin Farm -- suggestions, please." by CALS::JENSEN () Wed May 01 1991 16:40

Juli's daycare takes the kids on a field trip once a month. For May,
they will be going to Drumlin Farm (Lincoln, MA?).

I've heard some compliments and seen advertising about on Drumlin,
but I don't really know what it offers and, how I should dress Juli,
or what to expect (Juli's 20 months old).

Can you NOTERS give me some info, suggestions, etc.

    Thanks,
    Dottie

PS: I probably should be asking her daycare!, but I value all
         your inputs, too.

Their last trip was to the Acton Discovery Museum and she
absolutely loved it, so hope this trip is just as eventful.

Drumlin Farm is a working farm, so dress accordingly. Also, she will spend
most of her time outside, so take that into consideration.

I would say make sure she wears comfortable shoes and clothing. The
farm has pathways to each section, the pathways are dirt or stone dust.
May wouldn't be too buggy, but with the animals there may be more than
normal, skin so soft to keep any bugs away.

    Hope she has fun....

Drumlin Farm, like Clay said, is a working farm, but it's not
a "real" farm (which to me would mean quite a bit of machinery,
lots of mud, big barns, etc). It's set up with young kids in mind.
Lots of open space, with the animals either in pastures or in
pens in the barn or sheds. There are also a number of wild animals
rescued from disasters - these are kept in outdoor pens nearby.

My son always insists on a hayride. They use two enormous draft
mules, quite a sight for small kids.

I took my son last year in July and at the time he was 25 months and he
loved it. I agree with the other two replies dress her with comfortable
    shoes and very casual clothes.

And if there's been rain in recent memory, there's a very high mud
    quotient. Comfortable, **OLD**GRUBBY** shoes.
