801.0. "Easter eggs" by NETCUR::VASSIL () Thu Mar 28 1991 13:26

Any suggestions on what to put in those Easter eggs?
My 5 year old son loves to hunt for those eggs!

I can only think of two; candy and coins.

    Any others?

Someone in this notesfile mentioned animal crackers.
I thought that was a great idea!

Mini-matchbox cars, superballs, jacks, dice, ritz bits crackers,
    raisins.

I decided not to dye eggs this year but to use the plastic eggs
instead and have found all of the above at reasonable prices.

801.3"Little Critters"SOLVIT::POULINThu Mar 28 1991 14:0011
I have always used "money", having a 14 year old who looks forward to
this time of year so he can make a deposit into his account. My 4.11
years old also likes the money, but Monday she came home from preschool
with this little critter inside her plastic egg. She loved it,
they are like a little Easter bunnies, with a string attached. She
treated it like it was alive and hung it up in her room.

I have decided to hide a few eggs for her with this type of surprise.

    I have a 10-year-old step-son and a 1.5 year old girl. What we're
putting in the eggs (and they can trade them with each other) is:

coins small toys (cars, for example)
    hair bows raisins
    stickers jewelry
    candy

Of course if Craig opens an egg and finds a little necklace, he'll
give it to Allyson for a quarter or something else. Actually, we'll
make up 16 eggs and fill 8 with things for Ally and 8 with things
for Craig and Craig will take her around and they'll look for the eggs
together. Last year she was only 6 months old, but Craig decided on
his own that he would put half of the money he found in the eggs into
    Allyson'd piggy bank. He's such a sweet kid... :-)

My nearly 2 year old loves stickers, so I've bought a supply of
those to put in some of her eggs.

 re .4.

At last year's Easter egg hunt (we use the plastic eggs too)
we had a wide age range of the kids. My daughter was 11, and her
cousins range from 2yrs. to 6 yrs. She wanted to participate,
but we knew so many of the eggs would be placed pretty easy and
open for the little ones.

So, in her Easter basket (we look for those in the house first),
I placed an egg with a couple of coins and a piece of paper with
a clue to find the next one (outside). When we all went out for
the hunt, she skipped looking for the other eggs, and went looking
for her "clue" egg. That one had a couple of coins too and a clue
for the next egg. And so on. The last egg had a congratulations
note and a dollar. (I probably could have excluded the money, she
enjoyed the hunt so much.)

The more difficult the better for that age, and we (the adults
and parents) had a great time the night before thinking of clues
and hiding the eggs too!
