780.0. "Parenting noters picnic - RSVP" by WORDY::STEINHART (Pixillated) Wed Mar 20 1991 11:52

"Sammy's headin East" gave me a super idea:

Why don't we have a picnic this summer for our So. New Hampshire/No.
Mass. parents and kids? It would be so much fun to meet all of you in
person! And anyone travelling in from other areas will be welcomed
    with open arms.

We can reserve a public park if we do it in the next month or so. I
can make inquiries about where to do it in New Hampshire; some have
swimming! I'd suggest we have a cover charge to include admission fees,
some basic foods and beverges and paper goods, OR a potluck.

Swimming, ballgames, noshing, singing and dancing!

To kick things off, here are the Sundays. If you are interested,
please reply and indicate which Sundays are okay for you. The Sunday
with the most votes wins. If you MUST have it on a Saturday, please
indicate so and tell us which ones you prefer. If you add to the
number of guests after replying, please let us know. We need to
reserve a suitably-sized park and tell them how many to expect.

    Please reply by April 10.

    Laura

Sounds great! I vote for a potluck. If you want, we can assign food
categories by lastname: A-F brings salads, etc. Let me know and I'll
put in a list from a book at home.

There have been one or two of these in previous years - any advice from
those organizers/participants? They would have checked out the park
scene within recent years and probably have some hints.

I don't know if the family could join me, but... As I provide sound
systems to area bands etc., When you find a date for this "event".
consider the PA system provided. (Free of charge!!) All you supply is
the records/tapes/CDs. All else will be supplied.

I would love to attend this too. I've said not okay to the first couple
of Sundays as I'm due May 5th and if I go late, this could be kinda
soon, but we'll see. I know where the turn off is off Rt. 13 where
Cal is going to be staying. I live in Townsend which is just over the
    border from there into Mass.

hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa PLAN?? US??? hahahahahahaaaa!! I'm sure
that any weekend would be fine.

For work we usually have our outings at BearBrook State Park which is
sort of near Manchester. There's also Silver Lake State Park in Hollis
NH (I think), that's nice and it set up very nicely for families. I
believe it's $2.00 per person, and they have grills, a nice swimming
lake, lifeguard, food and you can put a small (not powered) boat in the
lake if you like. Even when it's crowded, it's not too crowded.

    Let us know when!!

Count me in! I'd love to meet everybody! We live in Central Mass., so
northern Mass./southern New Hampster would be good. Hollis sounds
good. Whenever the date is scheduled, I'll be there... and hopefully,
Mister Kip [actually, he's "Mister Marcia"] will come, too.

I'll volunteer to make a salad, bake, etc... Looking forward to this!

Sounds like a lot of fun. You pick the date and we will try our
darndest to attend. My husband usually works Sundays so we can
try to switch if it's his Sunday to work.

It would be 2 kids/2 adults
    1 car
    N. Mass or S. NH is fine as we live near Framingham
MILPND::Pimentel is how to reach me

I like the idea of A-F bring ... etc. And perhaps everyone bring
their own meat or cover charge for hamburg/hot dogs would be good too.

Count us in, that's two adults, well that's one adult and a dad who
forgot her grew up! and one very active AJ who's 4. One vehicle,
either the car or pickup, and if you it have near a place with an RV
campground we'll try it as part of a weekend campout. After all it
never hurts to have an extra bathroom, stove or fridge at one of these
    things!

Did anyone give any consideration to State parks? I know of the Harold
Parker State park in Andover, and I presume there must be one somewhere
in So. NH. Wern't there a couple near the old animal farm in Hudson
    NH?

I'll pitch in and bake or concoct!

Now who's got the softball, bat, and mits, and the batmiddon set up or
lawn darts (I've got a "safe" set of those).

This is great! I've never been to a noters picnic before.
I would love Alexa (8mos) to make some new friends--and mom too!

We are available any Sunday except -- July 14 & 21st and Aug. 11th.

There are 3 of us -- one car. My mail address is TRACTR::MAZUR.

I would prefer something in So. NH since I live and work in Merrimack.
The only park I know of near me is Greeley Park -- it's okay but
    nothing special.

I've been to BearBrook once before--that seemed like an ideal place
    for something like this!

    Thanks!

My family would be interested, as long as it's not *too* far into NH.
We live in the greater Boston area.

Dates? Who knows! At this point, the only time that doesn't look
feasible is the last half of August.

Probable attendees - 4; 2 children, 2 adults (although Dad may not make
    it if he's traveling).

come to such an event if the drive from the Worcester area wasn't

Count the Frye Family in! (with apologies for taking so long to
reply!) One thought on a way to handle refreshments is the way that
our au pair group does it - each family brings their own food for the
grill and something to share with the group (salad, desert, etc)

780.25The picnic is ON for June 9!WORDY::STEINHARTPixillatedMon Apr 29 1991 19:1018
The date most folks can attend is June 9. Apologies to those who can't
    make that date.

We'll probably go to Silver Lake in Hollis, NH. Feedback on that
location has been positive. I believe you may have to get there fairly
early to get parking in the lot. Has anyone had a group picnic there?
Is there any way to hold a group of adjacent tables?

The most popular suggestion has been to have a modified potluck, with
each family bringing a dish to share and their own grill meats. I
would also like to have a "cash bar" of soda and juices by the can.
    (Recycled, natch.)

Details to follow as we firm it up.

    HOLD THAT DATE!

I've never had a problem parking at Silver Lake.

I've never had a group picnic there, but there are enough tables, that
you could get at least SOME tables and then plenty of space for
blankets etc to make room for everyone.

One thing to keep in mind -- this is a NH State Park. Admission is
$2.00 per head (even little heads (-:), unless someone can work
something different with the park. ALSO, you bring it in, you bring it
out. There are no trash facilities there. You'll get a trash bag when
you come in and you have to bring your trash out with you. Not a big
deal, but something to be aware of.

There's shade and sun as well as a LARGE field, swings/slides, a sandy
beach (w/ lifeguard) that's half shade, half sun after noonish. Woods
and wide open spaces. Also, there's bathrooms/showers, as well as a
    concession stand (expensive).

Look forward to seeing you there!!

So far the weather is looking good for Sunday, June 9 (but can we
    trust the weatherpeople?)

Can everyone still make it? How about those who haven't signed
up in note 780 (this note). I'm curious as to who is going to
    be there.

Someone PLEASE take lots of pictures. Would anyone be willing to mail them to
me following the picnic? Sorry I'm missing out!

Sorry, we can't make it. My husband has to work and there is also a
graduation party down the Cape which we also are supposed to attend!

I am really disappointed. Have fun everyone.

I think I'll bring a bound notebook to be our picnic autograph album.

Then I'll type it in here so everyone can see who was there and what
    they had to say.

    Can hardly wait.

We won't be making it either...the DVL (Digital Volleyball League)
outing/picnic ended up scheduled on the same day.

    Have a great time everyone!

A is turns out a conflict has occurred for me too. I run a sound
business on the side in cooperation with a local music store. My sound
guy that was to run the "open jam" we're having on the 9th can't do it
(he hurt his back). Maybe next time...

Well, we went and had a very nice time.

I'd like to thank Laura for organizing this. It's always more work
    than you plan on.

It was fun to put faces with node names.

I went with Nicole around 2 p.m. and didn't see a sign with balloons or
any obvious pointer to the group. Were you all still there then ? I
was a little disappointed to have missed you all.

780.42Great DayAIMHI::MAZIALNIKMon Jun 10 1991 12:118
We were there until about 2:30. We had a great time in the fresh
air and cool breeze, slides and swings - so great that when we got
home, Eric took a 4 HOUR nap!!!!!

    Thanks Laura.
