Does anyone know of any parenting classes in the Nashua area?
296.2A1VAX::DISMUKEWed Aug 21 1991 13:567
Contact Nashua Memorial Hospital - I believe they have classes of all
sorts available to the public. Their phone number is (603)883-5521.

(St. Joseph's number is (603)882-3000 -- check with them, too)

296.3a few more places that come to mindTLE::RANDALLWed Aug 21 1991 18:4316
I assume you mean classes about improving parenting techniques and
    not prenatal classes?

Check in the Nashua _Telegraph_, in the local events section
(usually in the section that starts with the recipes, if you're
    not familiar with the Telegraph.)

Different local churches, fraternal orders, social groups, and
clinics regularly offer a variety of classes, many of them open to
the public. Parent Effectiveness Training is a good one.

Other places you might want to try are Rivier College (they have
child development classes and a day-care center) and that
residential hospital out on 101A -- Brookside? I forget its name.

A workshop series of child development and home/classroom management.
The simplest routines of daily life can become major family or
classroom concerns. Many parents find it difficult to get their
children up in the morning, off to school on time, or to bed at night
without scolding or fighting. Many children seem to have to be
coaxed, reminded or threatened, making each mealtime or school
assignment a torture. Even the slightest contributions to life or a
classroom are fillled with conflict and frustration. The child's
responiblilty to study, practice or apply him/herself in any way is
often the source of endless friction.

This series will help parents and teachers to:
o understand the lifestyle under which each child operates,
    		  based upon birth order
o develop specific techniques that will help identify and
understand the goals of a child's misbehavior
o develop techniques of managing misbehaviors
o changing a person's behavior through the use of
    	  	  encouragement activities

PARENTHOOD: The Cutting Edge of Character
                   ==========================================

A recent Boston Globe article identified family strife in the suburbs
to be as serious as in the city. God offers the solid foundation, healing
and direction to build great families to lead us into the twenty-first
century. Uniquely, these seminars will provide solutions to parenting
from the Bible and real-life experiences presented by men and women whose
   own families are vibrant examples.

Topics included in specific workshops for parents of preschool,
   school-age and teens:

           - Discipline: Distinguishing Rebellion from Immaturity
           - Personal Sharing by Parents and Teens with Great Relationships
           - The Family Circus: Diapers, Drama and Dreams
           - Creative Conflict Resolution
           - Successful Single Parents
           - The Brady Bunch: Blending Families
           - Heart-to-Heart Communication
           - Hope: Reversing the Dysfunctional Cycle
           - Building Faith and Convictions
           - Family Foundations: Role Models (past, present, and future)

296.9NCT Antenatal classes in Reading (England)RDGENG::HENDERSONWed Nov 27 1991 12:3311
I wonder if anyone in the Reading area can give me some advice of where to go
for NCT Antenatal classes. I have tried the Reading branch, but they are already
fully booked until June '92, and as I am expecting my baby Feb, I think that will
be a little too late!!!!

I really fancy the NCT classes, as my husband wants to take part in as much of
whats happening as possible, whereas the NHS classes are mainly for the women.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Suzanne.
296.10ring the head office MARVIN::MARSHThe dolphins have the answerThu Nov 28 1991 06:1719

Phone the national office in London on 081-992 8637 and they should be
able to give you the numbers of all the branches in your area. I was
told to book mine as soon as possible during my first check-up at 10
weeks. I managed to get the last place for the course in Newbury for
January and I am not due until May!!!

The classes are very popular as they are run in the evenings so are
great if you are working and you want your partner to go with you. A
friend told me that you should try and book them as soon as you know
you are pregnant!!! Bit late for your case, but something for you to
    remember for next time :-)

As there are classes in most towns in the area, you should find
something (maybe a cancellation), but be prepared to travel.

    Good luck

A friend of my wife is looking for childbirth classes in the
Blackstone, MA area. I'm sure the hospital at which she will deliver
offers them, but she wants other options.

    Can anyone make any recommendations?

    Thanks.

Usually the OB will have a list of who gives the classes in her area. I remember
with my first I got an information package from the nurse and it had a list of
about 10 class offerings in the area, both private and hospital sponsored.
