141.0. "Romanian adoption completed" by WFOV12::MOKRAY () Tue Jul 17 1990 01:03

I just wanted to tell everyone separately that the Romanian adoption
process I began last Jan. 3 ended its first main part Friday the
thirteenth of July when Daniela arrived at Logan.

Born 9/28/89, she slept through the car ride home, ate something,
slept through the night til 3am, when I discovered that the reason
for nightlights is so you can see how to change the diaper while
half asleep, went back to sleep and has been blooming from there
on. She sleeps really well; is slowly learning how to play; woke
up to give us both smiles Sunday morning; generally wakes up with
    a smile.

She's eating like a trucker but won't drink, since she was off a
bottle at 4 months and we haven't found the magic formula yet for
getting direct liquids into her, other than milk/formula/little
    bit of cereal.

She's discovering a world which includes sun, breezes, birds, trees,
flowers, cats and soft things and lot of color. Given that a week
ago she was in the orphanage, people are saying that she's come
on awfully well. She's got her Romanian passport and has been admitted
to the US -- and can even be employed.

Anyone interested in learning more about how to do a Romanian adoption,
feel free to send a mail message to WFOOFF::Mokray. If you read
some of the previous notes on this, you know that is at present
a nightmare of the most extreme order; the laws are changing; it
will be possible, I'm convinced, and am committed to working with
some people to make it something less than the true Balkan adventure
in hell that we had. If we can make it straightforward, that'd
be a major step forward. Anyhow, now the long process begins.

Thank you to everyone for their support, to those who contributed
toys and clothes that I took to the orphanage (all got there).
Further donations of any kind gladly accepted, as I'm still collecting
and have made a permanent commitment to help those children in
whatever way I can. Thank you, thank you.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I am absolutely thrilled that your little
Daniela is with you now. It must be such a thrilling time. We look
forward to seeing many notes from you about what a happy 10 month old
    should be doing next!!!

Is there any way you can give us the address of the orphanage to mail
things directly? I'm asking because I'm based in England now, and if
they are able to accept packages (what are the government
regulations??) I'd certainly mail some clothes and toys to them. Can
they even accept monetary contributions? (I'd feel better sending goods
that I know will be used by the children.) If I can't mail directly to
them, I'll hang onto everything and we can maybe connect up in time for
    a Christmas shipment.

    Again, many congratulations!!

    Andrea

Joan, I'm so thrilled for all of you!!!!! You now will be able
to experience all the joys that your little Daniela will give to
you. I don't know what else to say except that I'm so happy for
you. You've been through a lot and now it's time to enjoy. If
you ever get a chance to bring her into work, please let me know.
I would love to meet her.

    Wishing you all the best.

141.6Dreams come true!BRAT::SCHUBERTWed Jul 18 1990 14:2613
Joan, after talking to you the week before Daniela came home, I
knew your spirits were low, but now after reading your note, I
understand that DREAMS CAN COME TRUE!!! I know physically and
emotionally this has been trying for you and your S.O., but well worth
being the great parents to Daniela.

I'm still getting a bandwagon of different cloths/toys/shoes together
for you to ship over. Will call you within next two weeks.

Your a courageous person and I admire you for that. Will get in touch
    with you soon.

    Congradulations Joan!!!!!!!

Just wanted to add my congratulations and sincerest wishes for much
happiness, fun and love in the years to come.

I wish it were possible for "single parents" to adopt here in Europe,
yours is an example I'd like to follow, and I know my daughter would
dearly love - for better or for worse - to have a brother or sister.

Again, good luck and very, very best wishes for a happy life together

    Diana
