6.0. "Doctor needed -- **Please reply by MAIL**" by TCC::HEFFEL (Cogito ergo spud - I think therefore I yam.) Wed May 30 1990 20:21

This note is your place to ask for recommendations for pediatricians,
OB/GYNs, specialists of any type...

If you request a recommendation, please include your E-mail address or
DTN, as this is how you will receive your responses!

Since this information is of limited use geographically speaking (people
in Australia are unlikely to travel to California for a pediatrician) and gets
out of date very quickly, we ask that you DO NOT reply to requests here. Please
mail or call the noter. If you reply here, your note will be mailed back to you
and deleted by one of the moderators!

To keep from having to wade through old requests, a job will run every
night that will clean out all replies older than 30 days.

Thanks,

6.6Pedi. in Groton MA area?WONDER::MIDTTUNMon Jul 16 1990 14:584
We are looking for a pediatrician in the Groton MA area, who is
a Tufts Community Health Plan member. Evening and Saturday office
hours would be a plus. I assume that evening/emergency calls would
also be welcome (from 1st time parents!).
6.7Pediatricians NOT taking new patientsSMAUG::RLAMONTWed Jul 18 1990 20:4618
I am honestly at my whits end. I am trying to find a pediatrician that
comes recommended rather than just "thumbing" through a listing and
picking one from the looks of the name. Every one that has come
recomended to me (including the ones from my obstetrician) is "closed
to new patients" at this time. What's a parent to do?

I'm due to have my baby in 8 weeks and feel I should have one before I
deliver. Can anyone offer any assistance or recommend a doctor in the
area. I live in Clinton. I myself prefer to use the Memorial Hospital
in Worcester since that's where I go when I have problems. I've tried
UMASS but the doctor I want can't take new patients nor will her
associates. I don't know any of the other physicians/pediatricians
    there.

    Recommedations/advice?

    Rebecca

6.9ask when the will take patientsSHALDU::MCBLANEThu Jul 19 1990 14:0113
RE: .7

Call back all the pedi's who you already called and said they are
not taking new patients. Ask when they will be taking new patients
again. I did this with my OB/GYN and it turned out that she was
opening up her practice again about a month after I initially called.
This is not the kind of info they would offer unless you ask.

Even if they don't open up again for 3 months, you could still go
with an unrecommended pedi and get on the waiting list for the one
you really want.

I'm looking for a recommedation for a Pediatrician if the
Goffstown/Manchester NH area, the hospital is CMC. I am 5 months pregnant
with my first right now and would like to start looking for one, since my
doctor told me one had to be present at birth. Yes, I did ask my doctor
for a recommendation, she offered her sister, but when I spoke to someone
I work with, I was told this doctor was cold towards her children. She
didn't sound to pleased with her. I am still planning to meet this doctor,
but if I don't like the feelings/'vibes' I get, I would like another
alternative. Doesn't matter if it is a female or male doctor as long
as she/he is competent, and pleasant in manner :^). If there is a
specific doctor I should STAY AWAY from, please send me mail at
MRKTNG::SAVOY so that we don't slander someone who may be friends with
someone else out in PARENTING LAND - good recommendations only.

6.19Ob in Colorado SpringsGENRAL::M_BANKSThu Aug 16 1990 18:3315
In Colorado Springs:

I need an ob, and have been referred to Trudy Skiles. I've heard only good
about her, but am wondering if the waits in her office will be endless
(since she's so popular). If you've chosen her partner, Gordon Silver,
over her, I'd like to hear from you about opinions of him. I'd also
appreciate input on just how long people have had to wait for appointments
with Trudy.

Thanks,

Marty

6.20Pediatricians at Matthew Thorton/Nashua??DELNI::STANLEYMon Aug 27 1990 16:5515

My wife and I are expecting our first in December !! Our HMO is Matthew
Thorton in Nashua. I am looking for comments/ your opinion on their
pediatricians, reccommendations of which one to see/ not to see ??
Do you get to see the Doctor with a sick baby or do you see a Doctors
Assistant or nurse? In general what has your experience been with them
good or bad ?? Since we are due in December we could change back to
John Hancock and have a wider selection of pediatricians to choose from
if Matthew Thortons Pediatrics is not real good ( you can only change
health plans once a year in December ). Any comments at all would be

6.38Tufts HMO?MSBCS::A_HARRISThu Dec 06 1990 19:2524
Does anyone care to share comments on the Tufts HMO for pediatricians
and general care? It's the only HMO my OB (Dr. Lea of Emerson) accepts,
and if it looks like a good plan I may switch. John Hancock is getting
SO expensive! But there's NO way I'm switching OBs when I'm due in
    March.

I'd like to know what pediatricians people like. The list I got
    includes:
    	Dr. Hendry
    	Dr. Martinez
    	Dr. Mcman
    	Dr. Murphy
    	Dr. Nathan
    	Dr. Smith
    	Dr. Watson

When I was in Harvard a couple of years ago I found it really
convenient--no bills. Is Tufts just as easy? And for those of you who
used them for maternity, were they good about covering everything?

Thanks for the answers. I have to make up my mind (and my husband's) by
    the 14th.

6.56Doctor for newborn at home or at work ???XANADU::CHIASSONTue Apr 02 1991 13:4824

I am looking for a recommendation as to where to locate my primary care
physician for our soon to be newborn in May. Both my husband and I
work in Nashua but live in Nottingham. We currently have plans to
commute our child with us to a caretaker in Nashua. Our dilemma is,
where do we establish our primary care pediatrition?? Both my husband
and I have our primary care near our home, but I'm not sure if that
makes sense for the baby, since a majority of (her) time will be spent
in Nashua. Also, in case of an emergency during the day, I could go to
the sitters pick (her) up, and bring her to the doctors. Does anyone
else commute a great distance with an infant or small child, and what
are your recommendations (home, or office??) I know there are pros and
cons to both sides, but I have no idea how often babies get sick, or
how often they have to go to the doctors, and what about the weekends??
Will I have to drive to Nashua if (she) is sick??

I am also looking for recommendations for a pediatrition in Nashua? If
I choose to go with one close to home, my doctor is a family doctor,
and would take on our child as a new patient.

    Thanks,

6.57one mom's humble opinionBRAT::DISMUKETue Apr 02 1991 16:328
My suggestion would be to get a doctor near home. Many times a pedi is
needed in the middle of the night or weekends. When a kid is sick
during the day, you may find yourself (or spouse) at home with the
child anyway. Also consider which hospital you would want to commute
to if anything should be serious enough to warrant any admission time.

We've just moved to the swarming metropolis of Bolton, about 10 miles north of
Marlboro, from Dallas, Texas. We have a 14-month old son who is due for more
shots soon. I'm currently on the John Hancock Medical Plan, but am considering
switching to HMO during open enrollment. Any recommendations on pediatricians
in the MRO area? Bolton abuts Harvard to the north, Hudson to the south, Stow
to the east, and Lancaster to the west. Anything within a half-hour or so drive
is good.

Also, any thoughts on HMO vs. non-HMO, and any recommendations on HMO doctors?
I used an HMO with a previous employer in TX about 5 years ago, but I don't
know too much about current options. With kids, HMO seems the best choice hands
down, but I would like to hear some opinions.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi all - I'm currently having a hard time deciding about switching to an HMO
type of health care system. I think I've narrowed it down to 2
below if I get some positive feedback on the doctors mentioned.
My main dilemma is in the Pediatrics department. My daughter is
currently a patient of Pediatric Prof. Assoc ( Dr Avila/Dr Lehrman )
in Methuen. They are on board with Bay State and Tufts, but
other factors with those plans are less attractive to me. So ...
any feedback on the following would be greatly appreciated.

Harvard Community Health Plan :

Karen Barnett : Pentucket Medical Association, No. Andover MA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Healthsource :

Evan Brodie : Child Health Center, Methuen MA
Deepak Sharma : 23 Stiles Rd., Salem NH
Michael Romanowsky : 58 Range Rd., Windham NH *or* 10 Main St., Hampstead NH
                     ( Is he available in Windham - what days/hours ? )

Also, my daughter will be 4 in January. If you think she's old enough to
be handled by a Dr. in Family Practice :

William Land : 54 Main St., Salem NH

I need referral for an *adult* dentist. We live in Oxford, but both

Second, hubby and I are feeling a bit "assembly-lined" the last few

6.104Eye Problems need Dr recommendationCHIPS::HOUGHTONWed Dec 11 1991 14:3230
Hi, My son is having some problem with his eyes. His eyes
move back and forth (it looks like he is watching a tennis
match at high speed). I have taken him to a neurologist and
a pediatric opthamologist (under the Fallon HMO). He had
an MRI which came back normal.

My first two visits to the opth. went something like this: he
eyes will improve and they will probably fix themselves. Worst
case he my have to wear glasses.

The latest visit, last monday, I asked the dr. what he thought.
The eyes had improved, but not dramatically. They did stop and
stare when toy were close to him, but as things got further away
they would start to scan again. The dr. said he could see but not
"normally". I asked to what degree could he see. Could he read a
book, play ball, drive a car? should I be planning for alternative
education solutions? He told me that he thought he would probably
be able to read with a magnifing glass, perhaps play ball, was not
too positive about driving and said glasses could not help correct
the problem. Generally it was too early to tell.

I have decided that I would like to get another opinion, perhaps
at Children's or Mass Eye and Ear. Has anyone had experience with
any ped. Opth.'s in Boston that they could recommend? Any references
	would be greatly appreciated.

	thanks.../k

However, this is not ideal. A 15, tops 20 minute commute is okay. What's most

6.118HMO Blue doctors neededMCIS5::TRIPPWed Feb 12 1992 20:4730
I have deleted my note .113, because HMO blue will not allow me to use
an ENT doctor out of the "referral area".

As a result of this I need to stay within the Worcester area, and when
the tubes are placed, and the tonsils and adenoids are removed we will
most likely end up doing it at Hanneman Hospital (the med center of
    Central Mass-Hanneman).

Can someone please tell me something positive about Hanneman,
especially experiences in the Pedi floor? I have only dealt with Umass
Medical Center up til now for some 16+ surgeries with AJ.

Further, the same names keep creeping up, a Dr Oyer, Dr Ianuzzi, Dr
Hughes, Dr. Fine and about three other I can't recall, who all are HMO-Blue
referrals. Dr Oyer and Ianuzzi are the most frequently spoken, can
    anyone comment on them.

Because of my Pedi's attitude, more like insensitivty to my adament
opposition to Hanneman. We have decided that after this crisis has
passed we will be switching pedi's too.

Need a recommendation for someone prefer someone with admitting

Both my husband and myself strongly dislike giving our son (15 month)
any medication IF it is not needed.
We presently have a doctor who is very nice, patient, caring and
takes the time to explain stuff. However, he has this tendency
to prescribe medicine for any small thing. This leaves us with
the responsibility of deciding when to follow his advice and when not
to give the medicine (I did try to explain to him my position on drugs).
So far, my son had two mild ear infections (without ever showing
any symptoms or discomfort. The doctor diagnosed them during his
    regular checkups).
Both times, the doctor prescribed antibiotics. We did some reading
and decided not to give medicine to Kareem.
At both follow up visits the infections had cleared up
(The dr's comment: seems like the medicine worked!!! We smiled.....).

Now, I don't feel comfortable playing doctor!
I don't want to poison my son with unnecessary stuff either!
A solution to this dilemma is to find a pediatrician who would only
use drugs when they are really needed....Thus my request....

I need recomendations for an Opthamologist, anywhere from Malboro
through Worcester County (we live in Oxford). I broke my glasses a
couple weeks ago, and the vision place I used is now out of business.

My husband has a medical condition, that needs an annual opthamolgist's
exam to determine if it is active or not. (something about looking into
    the "backs" of the eyes).

We have HMO Blue (the old montachusett Plan), I think they pay for
exams in both our cases but that I'm not positive on, plus I'm not sure
if I have to use a specific "in Plan" doctor.
