2.0. "Daycare Wanted -- **Please reply by MAIL**" by TCC::HEFFEL (Cogito ergo spud - I think therefore I yam.) Wed May 30 1990 20:03

This note is your place to place your requests for information about
Daycare providers.

Daycare is defined as regular on-going childcare that allows you to work
or go to school. (As opposed to babysitting, which is sporadic and allows you
to go out to eat. :-) )

If you place a request for information, please your E-mail address and/
or DTN, since is how you will receive your responses!

Since this information is of limited use geographically speaking (people
in England don't really care about the daycare centers in the US) and gets
out of date very quickly, we ask that you DO NOT reply to requests here.
Please mail or call the noter. If you reply here, your note will be mailed
back to you and deleted by one of the moderators!

To keep from having to wade through old requests, a job will run every
night that will clean out all replies older than 30 days.

Thanks,

2.21Infant care- Derry/Londonderry, NHWAV13::STEINHARTToto, I think we're not in Kansas anymoreThu Jul 12 1990 16:2531
I am expecting in mid-October. I'm looking for infant care in a family
setting starting (probably) part-time in December and full-time in
January. I am looking for personal recommendations for the
Derry/Londondonderry area around exit 4 if possible. Some things that
    are important:

    - Cost $125 or less
    - Non-smoking environment
    - Very low provider:child ratio, 6:1 or less
    - Flexible hours within the 7:00 am to 6:pm range, probably 8 to 5:30
    - Low-turnover, individualized attention, experienced providers
    - Sunny, clean, orderly, safe space with quiet, active, outdoor areas
    - Balanced schedule with minimal TV time
    - Books, paints, blocks, toys, games, etc.
    - Parental involvement welcomed

I am also looking for a place (St. Joe's in Lowell?) that has a day
program for sick kids staffed by nurses, or someone who can come to our
home on an occasional basis as need arises. (I can transport if needed
up to Manchester or south as far as Andover.)

Also a good pediatrician (Derry/Londonderry) with some night/weekend
hours who can take night phone calls. Does anyone do house calls
    anymore? Wouldn't that be nice?

Thanks for any recommendations. This is certainly a big challenge for
    me!

Hi- We will be looking for infant daycare in the February/March
1991 time frame. We live in Groton MA and would like to find daycare

2.27Infant day care in Nashua -- soon!TLE::BBISHOPWed Jul 18 1990 17:5225
I am looking either for a day-care center or a family day-care provider
for my 9-month-old son. We live in North Nashua (between exits 6 and 7)
and work at ZK. I'd prefer having him near home or near work, but
am willing to consider taking him to a place on the way to work
(exit 4 or 5). The hours would be part-time (20-25 hours per
week), and I'm willing to work out a flexible schedule.

My son has been in family day care for 5 months, and loves it; however
his sitter is looking at moving by the end of the summer. His last day
with her is this Friday (July 20).

I'd love to find someone who could take my son for the next two weeks
and then pick him up again "permanently" starting the week of August 20.
I'm also willing to consider a temporary sitter for the next two weeks
and find someone permanent for August and beyond.

I've looked at Bright Horizons (Tara Boulevard) and Creative Years.
If anyone can give me other day-care recommendations or comment on
these two centers, I'd appreciate it.

My DTN is 381-2087; my mail address is TLE::BBISHOP. Sending mail
is probably best, as I'm not always at my desk.

Thanks very much in advance,
Barbara

2.34Part time day care - Hudson areaLSHAW::LAURAMon Jul 23 1990 14:209
I am looking for a home day-care for my infant. I will need it to
start about the end of September, and he will be about 2 1/2 months by
then. I live in Hudson, and work in Marlboro, so I would like it to
be in that area. I am planning to go back to work for less hours, so
part time, 3-4 days a week is what I'd need. I would also be open to
the idea of someone coming to my home.

in her life. We are now looking for a live-in nanny (Sudbury), someone
experienced, to take care of twin boys (born in February) and a

Hi,
We need live-in daycare. We just "lost" our
daycare provider to her new grandson.

Matt is 4 and Jeff is 2.
We have space/apt in our large old semi-renovated
farm house located on five secluded acres in
Sterling MA. Near I-190 between Rt-2 and Worcester.

Will trade country living for some daycare with

    with child, lets talk.

2.43Recommendations please!!!DELNI::MOUNTZURISFri Aug 03 1990 12:3727
Can anyone give me recommendations or any information regarding the
daycare in Littleton, MA called "Piece of Mind Daycare".

My daughter (3.8yrs old) is currently enrolled in daycare located in North
Nashua, NH, I work at LJO and live in Westford, MA (aprox. 10 min from LJO).
Presently I stay at Friends alot during the week up in Nashua, but I am
tired of doing all of that driving. My daughter has adjusted to
staying at friends during the week, that was no problem for us. Also
when we do start staying in Westford again, it will be no problem but I
hate having to leave the house over 1 hour before I have to be in
work. Don't get me wrong I have worked in positions where I have had a
long commute but here I can prevent from having to do this.

If anyone knows of other daycares that are in this area for me to check
out please do not hesitate to add them in.

At her daycare now I pay $90.00 for a full-time week, this includes
Breakfast, lunch, 2 snacks and all activities (art supplies, games etc)

I really do like the school that she is in now and would love to leave
her there but as stated above, it would be really hard for me and in
the long fun both of us.

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

2.68daycare needed for after the holidaysMILPND::EASTMANWed Oct 24 1990 13:3324
I'm in need of a home daycare provider starting after the holidays.

It would be for a 2 1/2 year old, 4 days a week. The hours would be
from 7:30-4:40. I'm also expecting in April so I would need a
commitment for an infant in the June/July timeframe, again for 4 days
    a week.

We live in Leominster, I work in Maynard and my husband works in
West Concord so anywhere from Rt 2 or Rt 117 in Leminster to either
of those places would be great.

I would love a home enironment with another child my sons age that
would be going to a preschool in September so the two of them could
    go together.

The most important issue is the care given to my two children. If
anyone knows of someone who would like to do this please have them
    get in touch with me.

    Hello,

I am looking for child care in a home environment for my 16-month-old
daughter, ideally a place with only one or two other children. My
daughter has a blood disorder that makes her unable to fight
infections so the less contact with germs the better (I know this is
almost impossible but...). My daughter should outgrow this problem
within the next couple of months and is otherwise a very healthy kid.

Days and hours are extremely flexible - 7:30 to 3:30 daily would be
ideal, but 7:30 to 12:30 is ok, and not every work day could be
    managed.

I live in South Nashua and travel down Route 3 to Bedford, MA, so
any place close to Route 3 would be acceptable.

2.106Daycare search process "how to"WORDY::STEINHARTPixillatedWed Feb 20 1991 11:5949
Digital's Chidcare Referral program was invaluable. DEC funds local
referral agencies who supply lists of options and booklets on what to
look for. The information is quite comprehensive. Your PSA will
provide a local number to call.

Prepare to spend a lot of time doing this. If you plan to go back to
work after 6 or 8 weeks, you need to start looking by your third
trimester. Most providers will not commit a space that far ahead, but
it will give you time to evaluate and learn what you want. Plan to
look at both family home day care and centers so you can compare. Have
a notebook to keep your notes. They will be copious.

What worked for me: Call family home day care provider in early
evening, about 7 pm; (Most go to bed very early; they start early.) or
during naptime after lunch. Inquire about openings coming up and
confirm basic info such as hours, rates, location. If its still a
possibility, use the provided checklist and your own check items to ask
a series of questions. Write in notebook.

If it still sounds interesting, schedule a visit during the day when
kids are awake. If you've asked all the nitty-gritties on the phone,
you just need to observe at this point. Since your presence upsets the
kids' normal routines, be tactful about leaving when the provider wants
you to go. Best time to visit is usually about 10 am. Plan an hour.

Call again with any further questions if necessary. Feel free to ask
ANYTHING, just be tactful. The provider should be willing to answer
any question at all. If it's still a GO, plan a second visit to firm
up your impressions. Will the provider commit in advance? Does she
want any money to hold the spot?

It feels weird to visit day care when you don't have the child yet, but
doing it well ahead of time gives you ample time to think it over.
It's a big learning process for the parent. You also need time to
think about any required changes in your work schedule. Most day care
providers require pick up by 5:30 pm and some as early as 4:00.

How did it work out for me? When I went on pre-maternity leave, I
still didn't have a provider selected, but I knew what I wanted. I
called one more licensed provider who's sister-in-law next door (In the
process of getting licensed) had a spot open. Bingo. Hydee is DIVINE.
She is everything I ever wanted. Ilona loves it there and is extremely
well cared for. I have no reservations about her care. I go to work
without any worries about her. Which is why DEC funds the program.

The only problem you will then find - your child will like daycare so
much that home is not much fun by comparison! Weekends with Mom can
be pretty dull by comparison. As Grandma used to say, "That should be
    your worst problem."

I am looking for someone to either care for my children for
approximately 10 hours per week. It can either be two half-days or one

provider may have to provide some of the transportation.

If anyone knows of someone whose child may also be going to
Meadowbrook, it would be ideal. I would be happy to share the
carpooling on the other day and/or provide care for another child
    for 1/2 day.

I am pursuing another job in DEC that depends on my finding an
alternative daycare arrangement than I have now.

I have about two weeks to make a decision. Therefore, I would
appreciate an immediate inquiry to those who may be interested.

I can be reached via mail, All-in-1 @MRO or VAXmail MCIS3::AROIAN,
phone at work Mon-Wed, DTN 297-7485, outside 467-7485 or at home in

    Thanks for your help, noters!!

2.115Infant Care NeededICS::LAWRENCETMon Mar 11 1991 19:2521
We are expecting a baby in April and will need child care beginning
in late August or the first week of September (4 days a week) and
possibly earlier on a part-time basis.

We would like to find a live-out nanny who could care for our baby
in our home in Sterling. We would also be interested in sharing
a nanny with other parents of one baby (or two children at the most).
A mother with one or two children who could come to our home to care
for our baby along with her own children is another situation we
    would welcome.

If we can't find the right nanny, we are interested in finding a
licensed family day care provider in either Sterling or in the
Acton/Boxboro area where we both work. We would like to find a
non-smoker who cares for a small group of 2,3, or 4 children.

If you would like to share a nanny or know of an available nanny or
family day care provider with an infant opening, please call Tracy
at DTN 223-9516 (until 4/5/91) or John at DTN 229-7573 or either one
of us at home (508)422-8265. We can also be reached via E-mail at:
    ICS::lawrencet (Tracy until 4/5/91) or ISLNDS::lawrence (John).
2.116Activities for ToddlersPIPLIN::MCOHENMon Mar 25 1991 16:4611
Now that Chelsea is officially a toddler, we are trying to find things that will
keep her from getting bored and stimulate her development. Paula is staying
home with Chelsea (although she works one day), and we feel that Chelsea is
getting bored, and needs exposure to new things. Paula is taking her to the drop
in gym class at the Y, and they have a play group on Tuesdays, and Chelsea is
with a babysitter on Wednesday.

We were wondering if anyone knows of some place that offers a part-time day care
program in the Nashua area, or any other programn we can get her in.

Looking for any pointers or info about PART-TIME care......

My son will be going into First Grade in the fall....will be 7 in
November, wanted to go to 1st this year, but city law states
"must be 6 BEFORE September 1"......

    anyway, he's been in a daycare/preschool center half-days this
year and Kindergarten the other half. In the fall, I'm hoping
to find a care situation that can handle the following :

    		3 p.m. to 6-6:30 p.m. afternoons
    		school holidays & vacations

Guess I should include that we live in Leominster MA and he's going
    to Saint Leo's School.

I have gotten some daycare provider names to look into from
the Child Resource center, but there aren't very many in the area that
will provide until 6-6:30. As far as after-school programs, the school
doesn't have one and the only one in the area given by Child Resource
was the local YMCA, which I've already ruled out for various reasons.

Need to keep it in the home area if he goes somewhere away from home
so the school-busing will be provided.

My preference though, (!! If it's affordable !!) would be to find
someone willing to come to my own home so Matt could just come home
from school....hoping I'll be able to work my work situation to either
see him onto the bus in the morning or drop him at school myself
before I go to work.....have a close friend that can help out in the
mornings if needed, so it's really after-school and vacations that
need to be covered. I've contacted one of the high-schools in the
area, but haven't heard back yet. Especially since I'm a single
parent, I need someone who's very RELIABLE and flexible on-occasion
(get stuck in a late meeting, traffic...).

Wondering if anyone had other words of wisdom or ideas in this area ???
How does one go about hiring an "in-house" care-giver - newspaper
ads...what do you say ? Anyone know what a "reasonable" rate
would be for this kind of care ?

Any help would be appreciated !!

2.156Does anyone know where Belmont is?SUBWAY::BAUMGARTNERMon Sep 02 1991 22:0825
Part-time day-care needed now 2 or 3 mornings / afternoons (your
convience) to care for my 5 month old daughter while I look for a
job. More hours will be needed when I find a position.

Location: Belmont, MA (or surrounding towns, Watertown, Waltham,
or Arlington would probably work -- I don't need someone to come
to the house, but would consider that too).

A little background -- just moved up to Belmont from NYC, essentially
know no-one in the area, have been given 4 weeks to find a job in
DEC before my LOA expires (times are tough, I guess), but need to find
child care before I can really look/interview. (I'm no dummy, I'm
looking outside of DEC too). Also so looking for occassional babysitters
(note 3.)

Name: Rhonda Baumgartner (Daughter's name: Megan)
Home Phone: (617) 489-2205
Mail: SUBWAY::BAUMGARTNER (luckily, I still have my NY account and
                           can dial in...)

I've been told the average cost is $4.50 or $5.00/hour here. I can
deal with that.

PS -- I wouldn't recommend making all these changes to anyone, in
case you're considering it. I'm trying to keep :-).

We are expecting our first baby in December, and we will be in need
of a full-time (8:00 - 5:30 or so) daycare provider starting in March
(baby will be roughly 3 months old by then).

We will be living in Northboro, I work in Marlboro, and my husband
works in Shrewsbury, so something in these three towns, or the vicinity,
    would be ideal.

We would prefer either private, in-home (someone else's) daycare, or
someone to come to our house. We are also considering live-in, although
we have serious concerns about invasion of privacy (although lots of
    benefits, too).

Please, any opinions or recommendations on any of the above would be
most appreciated. This is all new to us, so we'd love to hear from the
    experts.

We have a 3 yr old daughter, and a 9 month old son. We're looking for a

care now, that we've been very happy with. However, we are interested in

2.212Daycare needed - Dudley to Hudson areaDEMING::WATSONThu Mar 19 1992 15:0222
We're looking for daycare for our 13 month old daughter. We're
considering both family and daycare center openings in the following
locations: Dudley, Oxford, Auburn, Marlboro, and Hudson Massachusetts.

Right now she is in a private home. We're thrilled with the woman who
is taking care of her, but due to health reasons, she is stopping
daycare. We're finding most of the places we're contacting to be
unacceptable to us for a number of reasons.

This must be non-smoking and preferably without pets.

Ideally, we'd like: affectionate caregiver, 1-3 other children,
close to Dudley, in large private home on a quiet street. Hours
    in the Dudley/Oxford area would be 7:30 - 5:45 (or 5:30). Hours
in the Marlboro/Hudson area would be closer to 8:15 - 5:00.

and child-care referrals already), please send me mail at BIGQ::WATSON.

2.215Need something for the summerKAHALA::JOHNSON_LLeslie Ann JohnsonMon Mar 23 1992 15:1625
I'm not sure if daycare is exactly the term for what I need, but I am
looking for suggestions for my 7 and 9 year old step-children while they
are with us during the summer.

Last summer they went to Y Day camp while we worked, and they did appear
to enjoy it, especially the older child, but now they are saying they
didn't like camp and don't want to go this year. We take about 2 weeks
vacation while they are with us, but need 4 weeks of something during the
daytime as they are not old enough to be on their own while we're working.
I'm not feeling real good about a babysitter type arrangement in the home,
because I think it is important for them to be with other children, and also
to get swimming lessons which the Y camp gave. The swimming part may be a
hang over from my Mom - she never learned to swim as a child, and made sure
we all had lessons as she felt handicapped by her fear of the water as an
adult. I am thinking about mixing care for them - a couple of weeks of camp,
and a couple of weeks of something else, babysitting if necessary.

I'd like suggestions, and recomendations, including sitter recommendations
in case we go that route. We live in Merrimack, New Hampshire, and work in
Nashua.

Thanks,
Leslie

2.219Recommendations for Pre-schoolSARAH::COZMIK::WORKMANMon Mar 30 1992 16:3918
Next fall I would like to put my 3 year old, who will be 4 next January, in
a pre-school program.

I am looking for something in Amherst, Wilton, Hollis or Nashua, NH. I would
like 2 or 3 days a week and although the "school" does not have to be all
day, they must have day care on-site so that we don't have to leave work
and take him to the sitter's mid-day.

I don't have any particular type of program in mind. He is at the stage
where he is bored with home care (being the only child there except for a
one year old) and needs more stimulation and the opportunity to be with
other children his age.

Please mail me any recomendations that you may have.

Thanks,
Marjean

Like other recent notes here, I'm in the process of looking for
summer-time (out of school) care for my 7-1/2 year old son.
I just went to see the BRIGHT HORIZONS center here in Marlboro
which has programs from infants up through school age of 12 years.
I'm considering this program as (a) it's close to where I work,
	(b) it's got programs specifically geared for school-aged children,
	(c) it will take my son during school-year vacations as well and
	(d) it's in my price range.

If anyone has any experience or knows anything about this center,
could you please share your knowledge with me (FSOA::DJANCAITIS) ??
As of right now, I am considering having a "trial run" during the
