387.0. "Work/Family DIRECTIONS" by CSDNET::DICASTRO (jet ski jockey) Mon Nov 16 1992 18:54

    I received a "flyer" in DEC mail few weeks ago , it was bold yellow
    and blue and said "If you have a child in school learn this number:
    1-800-635-0606"

    Well I called to inquire, and found a pleasant resource for parents
    and volumes of available data/assistance. The compnay at the other end
    is work/family directions, it is a for profit organization of
    teaching professionals and is a service available to DEC employees.

    I cannot imagine this is not discussed in here some where.......

    Any other experiences w/ this organiztion

387.1involved with daycare referral agenciesTNPUBS::STEINHARTLauraFri Nov 20 1992 02:246
    Work/Family Directions is involved with DEC's daycare referral program.
    I'm not sure of their exact role, but I do know they designed the
    software they use to generate referrals.

387.2FSDEV::MGILBERTA man from Hope, A new beginning...Fri Nov 20 1992 14:2114
As a school committee member I'm always concerned about the image of the
district portrayed by others. I called and asked for the information on
SchoolMatch for my district and 2 others I was familiar with.

	1. I found the information to be accurate.

	2. I found the additional information they sent to be
	   age appropriate to my children and informatitive and
	   accurate.

	3. They also sent lots of information explaining how they
	   gather information and what it all means.

387.3Local Mass. School wins award from service.FSDEV::MGILBERTEducation Reform starts at home....Wed Mar 10 1993 12:1311
    On February 24th, 1993 School Match announced it's second annual
    "What Parents Want" Awards. 1,384 school systems across the nation
    (out of 15,625) were recognized for meeting the needs of families
    choosing schools.

    The Holliston School system was among the schools receiving this
    award.

    SchoolMatch is one of the services provided through Work/Family
    Directions.

    Mike's note in .3 reminded me to enter another endorsement of
    W/FD. I used their services recently partly out of curiosity
    and partly to help in our decision about our son's schooling
    next year. I found them to be very helpful and the material
    to be interesting and useful.

387.5Another recommendation for W/FDNEWPRT::WAHL_ROWed Mar 10 1993 15:327

I had an occasion to speak with a counselor at W/FD yesterday too. I was
very impressed with their response. A great resource for us working parents!

387.6Can Digital Employees still use W/FD?MSBCS::JANSON_CMon Feb 21 1994 11:347
    Does anyone know if Digital still has a contract with W/FD? I used
    them a few years ago and would like to again.

    Thanks,

Chris,
	I don't know if Digital still contracts with
WFD or not. If you are looking for school information
the Dept. of Education now maintains community/school
profiles for public schools in Massachusetts as well.
If this is what you are interested in I can get the
800 number for you.

 I used this group last summer and received the number from Personnel.
1-800-635-0606.

387.9they're still there, and I found them helpfulFLUME::brucediscontinuous transformation to win-winTue Mar 01 1994 14:0715
I just called them yesterday. Yes, they still take calls from Digital
employees, yes they are still very helpful, and they even admit that
they are improving their services from what they "used to" offer.

I found my call, about types of schooling - going beyond the numbers
available from School Match or the state departments - very helpful, and the
consultant on the other end is going beyond what I expected - she
is actually doing some research for me and will get back with what
she finds.

This is the third time we've called them in 4 years (once about daycare, twice
about schools); apparently this data is kept, since the consultant could tell
me when the calls were.
