15.0. "Where can I find? *Please reply by MAIL except catalogs*" by NOTED::DUBOIS () Fri Apr 10 1992 02:42

Have you been looking high and low for that particular toy your child
has been asking for? This is the place to enter your request for help
in finding it.

If you place a request for information, please enter your E-mail
address and/or DTN, since is how you will receive your reponses!

Since this information is of limited use geographically speaking
(people in California don't really care about the availability of Ninja Turtles
in Massachusetts) and gets out of date very quickly, we ask that you DO NOT
reply to requests here. Please mail or call the noter. If you reply here, your
note will be mailed back to you and deleted by one of the moderators!

To keep you from having to wade through old requests, the moderators
will try to clean out all replies older than 30 days.

15.7Where to exchange Little Star dresses?MR4DEC::SPERAWed Apr 29 1992 19:439
Is anyone out there familiar with the Little Star label on dresses ?

We got a lovely present for my daughter but need a larger size.
Unfortunately, it was purchased by a friend in DC and I am looking for
a place in the Boston-Worcester area where I might exchange it.

I know it is a long shot, but maybe I'll get lucky....

    Thanks.
15.1Looking for Thomas the Tank engineFUZZLE::ANDERSONThere's no such place as far awayThu Apr 30 1992 18:1814

I thought I saw this information in here somewhere, but I can't find
    it.

I'm looking for Shining time Station toys. Specifically, I'm looking
for the "matchbook car" size engines. The Early Learning Center in
Nashua only had the tiny stuff, or the Big models. I want the one in
between. I live in Hudson Ma, so anywhere in Framingham or Nashua is
ok. I would be willing to order the stuff from a catalog, if I could
    find the number.

    thanks for the help

15.2musical toy neededSUPER::WTHOMASFri May 01 1992 15:2214

Does anyone konw of a small musical toy that plays disney's "when you
wish apon a star?" (Don't they have those musical radios for kids or a
    musical stuffed animal?)

We are going on Vacation to Tenessee and the large musical box that
lulls Spencer to sleep at night is too big to pack. I'd like to find
something that plays the same tune but is more packable. We leave
Boston at 1:00 and arrive in Nashville at 7:00, I'm going to need more
than a few tricks in keeping Spencer calm so that he can sleep.

    	Thanks for the help.

I'm looking for a talking Pee-wee Herman doll. We have one but the
talking mechanism doesn't work anymore, and I'd like to get a new
one. I realize most toy stores don't carry Pee-wee products anymore.

15.6Inexpensive doll drinks/wetsROSMRY::CAIRNEYjean cairneyFri May 22 1992 17:548
I'm beginning pottytraining with my three-year son and am looking for

I'd like to get a good quality rake for my daughter. Not something
cheap that she'll get frustrated when she tries to use it.

She's two, and 33" tall, so the size should be proportionate. I'd also
like to get a few years use out of it, so it shouldn't be too small.

Any ideas? I figure I've got a few more years when she'll actually
*want* to help, so I may as well take advantage. :-)

I'm in Metro-West Massachusetts, and I need to buy a baby shower gift of
a good backpack style frame babycarrier. I've haven't needed one for a while
so I don't know what's available, but I'm interested one with a hip belt and

I plan to look at TOYS R US, EMS, (Herman's?). I don't have the time to do
mail order. Any suggestions?

I'm trying to locate someone who has a manual for a kid's game call
"Phonton" by Entertech. This game is similar to "Lazertag". There is
a pair of gun/helmet harnesses (that take a box of batteries each :-)
There's also a pair of belts, each with a clip on "target."

In particular, I can't figure out what the portable electronic
"targets" are for. Shooting the guns at each other's gun makes the
appropriate noise and scores points (4 hits = different noise - you
lose.) The electronic "targets" that clip on the belt seem unrelated
(although they have a blinking green light that turns red when you
    "hit" it with the gun...

If anyone has this game (or knows someone who does) please post or send
    mail.

    Thanks !

15.12Where to find cotton flannel diapers in Mass?DKAS::DKAS::GOODWINMalin GoodwinThu Jun 25 1992 14:3016
    Hi,

I've been looking for flannel diapers in Mass. without luck. I believe
that it was in the parenting notes file somewhere I read that the
flannel type is great for burp-rags etc. In the stores there are only
gauze-type diapers to be found, and calling diaper services in the
area did not help. In my files I did find a leaflet for a cotton diaper
mail-order company that advertized flannel, I called them up with
credit card in hand, only to be greated with the message "Phone number
    disconnected, no further information".

Where do you by your flannel diapers?

Thanks for any help or pointers

15.14Baby furniture stores in So. NHCUPMK::PHILBROOKCustomer Publications ConsultingThu Jul 02 1992 18:4313
I'm looking for baby furniture stores in So. NH (don't want to pay
Mass. taxes). So far all I've found are Tiny Totland on Elm Street in
Manchester and The Baby's Room on So. Broadway in Salem. Tiny Totland
has an excellent selection but their prices are a little steep. The
Baby's Room has a lesser selection but their prices are more
    reasonable.

Is anyone aware of other baby furniture stores in So. NH? We've already
looked at what Burlington Coat Factory, Child World, and Toys R Us have
    to offer and were unimpressed.

    Thanks,

15.18Baby Beans around Nashua, NH anyone?TOOLS::BOURQUARDDebWed Jul 15 1992 21:4318
Where are good places around Nashua to get candy-related baby
announcements? Actually "announcements" isn't the right word...
At some point (soon, I hope!), my husband is going to be looking for
"it's a girl" or "it's a boy" candy to pass around to co-workers & friends.
One of our baby magazines had an ad for "Baby Beans" -- a small
package of blue or pink jelly beans with "It's a ***" stamped on
it. Unfortunately, the ad just said to stop in any "fine candy
store". Apparently, we haven't run into any fine candy stores
    yet :-)

I've also seen wrappers that you can place over Hershey bars
so that all you see is either "he" or "she".

Any other ideas? And places around Nashua, NH to find them?

    Thanks in advance...

15.20Little Red Wagon?ASABET::MACGILLIVARYWed Jul 22 1992 13:0516
We would like to get Karen a "little red wagon" for her birthday.
Does anyone have a suggestion of where to find a good quality wagon?

We are looking for the kind with the high wooden sides. We have
looked in Toys-R-Us and Child World, but neither store had them at
      the time.

My husband saw one a while ago in a magazine. The company was
Munchkin Motors in Conneticutt, but we haven't been able to
find the ad in any magazine since.

      Any suggestions?

15.24Need info on where to find one-piece 100% cotton outfitsMAGEE::HILLMon Aug 24 1992 14:5017

I am looking for a store or mail order source for a type of clothing I
had received as a gift a year ago for my son. The outfit was a
one-piece 100% cotton long sleeve romper type. The outfit was a solid
color, had crotch snaps, and snaps down the front to about belly-button
level. Real comfy, and real easy to get on, wash, etc., etc. It
actually looks like long underwear, but isn't. It was 12 month, but
I'm looking for 24 months now, and within reason, I'm willing to pay
more than average. So far, I've hit almost all the department type
stores and several small shops. The clothing label says Lady Jane
LTD., but the outfit is definately unisex. I had a navy outfit for my
    son.

So.... if anyone can give me pointers, send me mail at WILLEE::HILL.

15.32need a port-a-crib occasionallyWMNIST::FOXNo crime. And lots of fat, happy womenSat Aug 29 1992 00:0016
My brother and sister-in-law are planning to visit the weekend of
Sept 12, and I need to find a port-a-crib (I *still* don't understand
why they can't bring theirs -- they have a big car trunk -- but so it goes).

I anticipate that I will have other occasions to need a crib, but not
enough to merit buying one new (they were expensive when my 12 y.o
was a baby; I'm sure they're through the roof now!).

Does anyone know where a good place to rent/buy used a port-a-crib is?

I live in Newton Center, MA, and work in Tewksbury MA.

I have about 35 pounds worth of Brio which we bought for our children from
the time they were about 2 years old. It is a wonderful toy. I'm afraid I
can't offer to sell you mine because I'm keeping it for my grandchildren.

My boys played with it until they were about eight years old but they were
beginning to lose interest in it around 6 years old. There are an enormous
variety of pieces so every Christmas and birthday we, relatives, and friends
added to it. They would fill the play room would complex layouts. We had
houses and villages and trees. I loved playing with it myself :-)

Now I'm on a hunt for the following two items. Pointers (especially in

    	- a 'rubber' drum, sometimes called a tom-tom.

There's a catalog that lists several kinds of drums and child-sized
guitars, both acoustic and electric. They have other folk-type
instruments as well, like lap harps. Their main product is
recorded music on tape or cd.

15.54Fisher Price? Ride-On TrainNODEX::HOLMESMon Nov 23 1992 13:4417
About three weeks ago I saw a TV commercial for a ride-on train that
goes by itself (battery operated, I guess) either on a track or just
across the floor. I'm pretty sure it was made by Fisher-Price, but I'm
    not positive.

I saw this commercial only once, and I haven't seen the train in any
stores yet. The commercial started out with a grandfather talking
about how all kids get obsessed with one particular thing, and with his
grandson, it is trains. Then it shows the little boy riding this train
around the living room on the tracks.

Has anyone seen this sort of train in any stores yet? Did anyone even
see the commercial?? I'm starting to think I dreamed (dreampt?) it.
If you have any information, please let me know. I live in work in
    central MA. Thanks!

15.60Support organization for FAS/FAE?LITRCY::KELTZYou can't push a ropeWed Jan 06 1993 11:1724
Does anyone know of a parent support group dealing with Fetal Alcohol
Syndrome/Fetal Alcohol Effects? Or a doctor or clinic in Maryland
specializing in the diagnosis/treatment of problems resulting from
    FAS/FAE?

Some friends have a foster daughter who is strongly suspected (by
physical symptoms and knowledge of the mother's history) to have FAE.
She's a very bright child but is having trouble in school because of
her short attention span and inability to control acting out in class.

These friends would like to have their daughter evaluated medically to
give them a better idea of what to expect and, hopefully, how to deal
with it more productively. We believe their family doctor will be of
limited value in this particular instance and am trying to help them
find a doctor or clinic specializing in these problems.

By way of explanation, these people are not professional foster care
providers. They are relatives of the child, and took her in when her
mother died, as the father had long ago abandoned the family. So they
have no specialized training and are getting absolutely NO support from
    the local social services.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking for a stuffed animal for my 4-year-old. It is the St.

one from the Employee Store here in Westminster for Xmas, but he lost

My husband has shopped around a bit and can't seem to

Does anyone know where we could find a pair?
We'll consider new or used.

Also, I haven't seen these in 30 years so not sure
how they work anymore...do the kids just wear their
snow boots and does the skate just strap over them?

We used silicone nipples (orthodonitic) for our first child...they were

one I could find, since my daughter wouldn't use anything else!

Anyway, my second child is now one month old and I've decided to
not even introduce the nipples we used before, since I can't find
    new ones anywhere.

I don't think you'll find them anywhere, but try calling HASBRO in

Looking for something called 'anti-colic valve'. They are small
plastic disks, containing vent holes and a regulator valve, that fit
inside the collar of a baby bottle between the base of the nipple and
the top edge of the bottle itself. Supposedly, the valve/vents prevent
the baby from taking in too much air while feeding. Don't know if it
really works, but Nick was never colicky...may only be a coincidence,
but who's to say for sure?

We bought a few for Nick at Child World more than 3 years ago...I seem
to recall they were on display with the various trinkets (safety
latches, outlet covers, bottle holders, etc...) sold by 'First Years',
or 'Gerber', etc...We've only got three left for Chris to use, and
can't find more of them anywhere.

About two years ago, I found a big teddy bear in a store
somewhere in Nashua, NH. It was only $35 dollars; I
sort of suspect it was mismarked.

So, now I would like to find another one, but cannot
remember where I saw it. If you've seen any big teddy
bears that are, say, less than $75 dollars, would you
send me mail. I'm looking at the usual places, but no
luck so far with *any* big teddy bears.

"Big" means about 4 feet tall, if it were to stand up
on its hind legs. We will use it to prop against the
(cold) wood stove, so when Sarah starts toddling and
falling, she'll land on it, instead of the stove.

Thanks,

Pat

My sister is looking for an inexpensive Batman costume for her
five-year old son, size 5 to 6 (I think). She thought she saw one in
the Sensational Beginnings catalog for under $10, but she no longer has

have a used costume they want to sell? Or does anyone have the catalog

Hi,

I'm trying to find the details of a "Berenstein Bears" book on Stranger
Danger.

I need to get the following details:

 ISBN number :

I don't know the title, and the booksellers I spoke to didn't seem familiar
with it, so it may have to be imported. Could someone help please? (It's for

I'm looking for Baptismal clothes for an infant boy, size 3-6 months in
the Nashua, NH area. I am not interested in the long christening gowns
I've seen and the satin shorts and shirts are sized for at least 12 months.

My criteria
    - mostly white
    - suitable for the begining of November
    - more formal that most kids clothes are---eg. no pictures of
bunnies, kitties, trucks, etc. Someone I know has a sleeper made
up like a tuxedo---something like that would be good.
    - size 3-6 months boy

15.127Wanted: Popples (stuffed toys)KAHALA::JOHNSON_LLeslie Ann JohnsonWed Dec 15 1993 16:2221
My sister checked out a tape for her four year old son from the town library.
The tape was a set of cartoons about a bunch of things they called Popples.
They're kind of like little stuffed toys that belong to a young boy and girl.
Somehow these toys have come to life, and tend to tag along with their owners
wherever they go. The Popples love to party and constantly get into trouble,
or get their owners into trouble usually by making a mess, and then in some
miraculous way, clean up/fix up the mess they made. They have names that all
begin with P - Party, Prize, Puffball, P.J. ... I foget what else. Their
main feature is that there is a sort of pocket like thing on their backs that
you can turn over and tuck their feet into so that they look like in they're
in a little sack or something.

Anyhow, my nephew has fallen in love with these things and wants to get stuffed
toy versions of them for Christmas. Alas, although there was such a thing
a couple of seasons ago, Popples are really old hat now and do not seem to be
available in stores anymore. My sister has obtained a used one from her son's
babysitter, but would like to find others. So if you have an old Popple that
you'd like to get rid of, or know of where we can get them, please send mail.

Thanks,
Leslie

15.158beginner's kite CUPMK::STEINHARTThu Apr 07 1994 03:5422
    We live in southern NH.

My daughter (well, actually her mom) is very eager to get a beginner's
kite now that spring has finally arrived.

We need one that's easy to get aloft, not complicated to use or
maintain, and promises some durability. I want a kite that's better
than the flimsy things that frustrated me as a kid.

I got inspired by the wonderful kites at Hampton Beach NH several weeks
ago. Its time for us to get into the action.

Oh - my daughter likes her kites (like everything in life) in the color
purple. She'll settle for pink. Pictures of kittens, puppies, or
cute babies are her favorites, but she'll settle for polka dots or
    ruffles. Mom's a bit more open minded. :-) :-)

Will pay more to buy from a dealer who can advise me on doing something
I never quite got the hang of as a kid. Maybe next I'll finally learn
    how to whistle Dixie.

I'd like to buy an anatomically correct doll for my 4 year-old
daughter. Since her brother will be arriving in the next 6 weeks or
so, I'd like to get a boy doll for her to have. This way, she can
wash/change/feed her baby while I'm doing the same to the
    louder/squirmier/messier real baby.

I looked at Toys-R-Us a while ago, but they didn't have anything that
advertised that it was anatomically correct. I'd probably prefer using
a catalog at this point, since I'm getting kind of tired and shopping
    isn't high on my list.

But any pointer would be appreciated.

15.161Anatomically correct dollsPCBOPS::TERNULLOThu Apr 07 1994 18:1734
	Judy,

Congratulations on your pregnancy. It's funny that you entered
this note today, because just yesterday I received the "hand in
hand PROFESSIONAL" catalog from my mom. (She owns a daycare center).
Anyway, it has a lot of nifty things in it and she thought I
might be interested. Their phone# is 1-800-872-3841 and they
are located in Oxford, ME. I've never ordered anything from them
but from the looks of the catalog they have a lot of educational
things. Anyway this is the description and price (sounds a little
high to me, but I've never bought an anatomically correct doll):

	 Newborn Dolls
"Naturally posed baby dolls that look and feel like real newborns.
Irresistible infant dolls with moveable heads, arms, and legs,
birth certificates, identification bracelets, navel bandages and
diapers. Fabricated of washable babysafe vinyl. Each 18" doll
is anatomically correct. From 3 years. Please specify race
         and sex. T-shirt sold seperately."

	 Each $44.95 (2lbs)

         L29152 White boy, girl
         L29151 Black boy, girl
         L30052 Native American boy, girl
         L29150 Asian boy, girl
         L29508 Hispanic boy, girl

	Good Luck,

P.S. I'm in the Mill and work Mon, Wed, & Thurs. if you'd like

I decided to put this reply in: mods please delet if it's
    innappropriate.

You can MAKE a boo boo bunny easily:

Take a very inexpensive (ie, THIN) washcloth and lay it out to look
like a diamond. Roll the sides inward until they meet. You'll have a
long double roll. FOld the roll. turn it on its side so you can see
the "hole" where the ice cube will go. Use one strong rubberband about
halfway. Catch all but the ends of the cloth in the band as well.

    sorta like this
           Rubber band |
                       |

15.197Toddler size bed (that fits crib mattress)DKAS::MALIN::GOODWINMalin GoodwinMon Dec 05 1994 19:1721
Where can I find the toddler beds that fit a crib mattress?

not much luck.

I'm not interested in the plastic sportscar type that

resort to the metal bed if I had to, but I am realizing those
hard to find as well.

If you have a toddler bed, where did you get it?
Made it yourself?

Also, if you have the metal kind, do you like it?

control Megazords, as well as a number of 'auto-morphing' 5" figures.
(No White Ranger stuff, though, but since we've already hit Nick's
quota for PR stuff, that doesn't bother me...) If anyone is having a
problem finding such things, let me know if I can help!

Preferably in the Southern NH/Boston area.

A followup to the earlier notes regarding finding Power Ranger stuff:

My mom found a Megazord in California last week, and shipped it out to
me a day or so ago. At the same time, I found one at a local store, so
I've gone from being in a panic trying to find *one*, to having one too
    many!

I've posted it in the for-sale note at cost, so hopefully I can help
out another noter struggling to find one.

Thanks again for all the pointers, both via Notes as well as E-mail.

A friend of mine has a son who has asked for just two things for
Christmas. The first is the PR Megazord which she, fortunately,
bought very early. The second is something that I THINK is called
a "Talk Boy". It is some sort of recorder. You may have seen the
ads for this. In it, the a boy talks into it, and then puts it
behind his older brother w/girlfriend, saying "We're Home!".

Anyway... My friend has searched most of the stores in Southern NH with
no luck. If you've seen one, please let me know by sending mail to
    SUPER::HARRIS

    Thanks, Peggy

btw... I'm SO glad that my son is only 3, and so far, watches very few
commercials. When I ask him what he wants Santa to bring him, he keeps
telling me "A Christmas Tree" (we've had ours up for over a week!).

This morning in the supermarket I saw a woman with an interesting
shopping list. It was a plastic gadget with a little button beside
each item. The button could have either been a push button, or it
might have been a slide. It didn't look electric, it looked manual.
But the use of the button eliminated the need to juggle a pencil.

It also looked like it might have magnets on it so that it could be
    kept on the refrigerator.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Either in a store or a catalog?

I have used one before that had a "sticker" type thing in the back to
attach to a cupboard door or wall. When I removed a bag the whole thing
came off. I'm sure you can find one that attaches with screws however.
In my area, I would try Target, KMart or one of the kitchen gadget

I now use an empty Kleenix box. Works great! The bags smash down so I
can get alot in the box and they pull out very easily.

Me, I put mine in the closet in another bag that I hung over the
closet pole. Of course, you have to take the pole off to hang it
so you want to choose a bag with a heavy duty handle.

These can be recycled at Shaws (plastic bags). They have a bin

This is a weird request...

My son (3) has been talking for the longest time about a "Batman piano." From
what I've been able to decipher, he saw one at some store (unhelpfully referred
to by him as the "Batman piano store"), and you push a button and Batman says
"ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!" I saw a Lion King book with a piano keyboard on it, and
that seemed to spark his memory, but it's not Batman.

Anybody heard of such a thing? Any idea what it is and where I can find it?

The catalogs, Lighter Side, Lillian Vernon, maybe even Harriet Carter,
and some others all have them. I can double check around for whatever
    I have at home.

I just picked a t-shirt up for Angeline last week that I loved. I had
thought about having this one made up, and then just about died when
I saw it at Rich's for $2.99. A lot cheaper than I could have made up.
It says, "I'm too sexy for my shirt". She has everyone singing that

    Hi,
I'm looking for the netting that you would put up along a railing.
I've found it in a catalog, One Step Ahead and at Baby Basics in
Framingham. My problem is that it's @ $25 for 10 feet. I think
this is pretty expensive for what is basically netting material
with some tie straps on it.

Does anyone have any ideas where I could find this cheaper or maybe
just get some material and make something myself?

15.263Portable Crib sheets KAHALA::FOREMANBack from the ShadowWed Jul 26 1995 19:1212
Does anyone know where to purchase fitted sheets for the Graco
Pack & Play portable cribs. I measured it last night and I think it
    was something like 26 X 37 or 27 X 36 ( I forgot to bring in the slip
I wrote it on ). I purchased the "regular" size portable crib
replacement sheets but they didn't fit (too small) so I guess this
is a non-standard size one. I've been using crib sheets while the one
I have is in the wash, but the poor little guy gets "wrinkle marks" on
his face if he falls asleep in there. It seems like the manufacturers
should sell them, but I haven't seen them in any of the standard
    places.

15.264I just use a LARGE flat sheet, foldedCLOUD9::WEIERPatty, DTN 381-0877Wed Jul 26 1995 19:2212
Not exactly what you're looking for, but ... what with the weather so
hot, and the only A/C downstairs, Jonathan's been spending his nights
in the playpen. What I do is take the winter quilt from my bed, fold
it twice (so it ends up 4 layers thick) and use that for cushioning,
and the take one of our regular FLAT sheets (mine are queen), and
fold it up a couple times, lay it on top of the quiltand it's just
about a perfect fit in the playpen. And it's thick enough that it
doesn't bunch up easily. The quilt under stops it from "sliding"
around. For a porta-crib, probably a plain twin size sheet, folded
twice, would be about the right fit for your crib. And if you get a
percale sheet, it stays nice and cool to sleep on!

Based on a suggestion I got via mail, I called GRACO's 800 number
(1-800-345-4109) and was able to order the portable crib sheets from
them directly. They range in price from $6.00 to $17.00 depending
on what you want. The $6.00 one is a plain pale green. Since I have
the Paw Prints version (black, white and red) I had to order the
Paw Prints sheets which are $12.00. Heaven forbid he should have
sheets that clash with the porta crib ! Since the 800 number is right on
the bottom of the porta-crib, I don't know why I didn't try that first.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Once again this file comes through.

a display booth at the conference. It was colored deep blue and had a big
smile on it's face. Our son loved it, and carried it almost everywhere.

Anyway, it has disappeared and we've looked everywhere for a replacement

If anyone out there happens to run across a small blue, stuffed Daschund,
PLEASE send me some mail with the name/number of the store or distributor so
we can try to replace the one we had....

I haven't seen those kind of t-shirts in my travels.

However, you can get long-sleeved cotton knit shirts that are like long
underwear. Hanna Andersen, Biobottoms, and other cotton/natural fabric

These catalogs, plus the gap, JC Penny's Arizona brand, and others have

One of my parenting magazines has had a couple of recipes
that sound delicious and they call for "wheat berries"
which they mention can be found "in any health food store".

Question 1) Where in the Nashua-Milford, NH area might
I find them? (i.e., where is there a
	     convenient health food store?)

Question 2) What do they look like? (That is, are they
packaged in a box, jar, plastic bag??)

I checked the health food aisle of one of the Milford supermarkets
yesterday, but I'm not sure I'd even recognize these things if
they did carry 'em :-)

Thanks!

15.313Looking for the title of the book on "Samuel Plank"DKAS::MALIN::GOODWINMalin GoodwinMon Nov 20 1995 11:0827
Hi,

What: A book we borrowed at the Acton library in
spring-95. We like to borrow it again, however
I dont remember the title or author and the staff
in the childrens section of the library/computer
       catalog could not help.

The book is about "Samuel Plank" who is an inventive carpenter.
People are not satisfied with his work (too different and not
what they expected) until one day "Captain Custard" comes along
and asks Samuel to build him a house. The house is a big
success and the captain is very pleased with his new home and
all ends well after all.

The book was ~8x10 format, large pictures and a small amount
of text on each page.

If you know the title of this book, or the author, please
drop me a line.

15.314Marble slide toy (WOODEN)MSBCS::MIDTTUNLisa,223-1714,PKO2-1,M/S J30Mon Nov 27 1995 17:5610
    Hi-

My neighbor is looking for a WOODEN marble 'slide' toy for
her son. Basically the marbles go in at the top and slide down
alternately sloped channels til they arrive in a cup at the bottom
of the toy. (It's the ONLY toy her son plays w/ at daycare and she
wants one for home; She's been able to find a place in Marlboro
that has the plans, but not the actual ready made toy. She DOES NOT
want plastic.) She'd be willing to travel in the Salem NH to Marlboro
MA area...anywhere w/in about 45 min. of Groton MA.
15.315Blocks and Beads??OOYES::WEIERPatty, DTN 381-0877Mon Nov 27 1995 19:0614
It's a little different, but there's another similar toy, that I
believe is called something like "Blocks and Beads" ??? that has wooden
blocks, with holes drilled through them and marbles. You can arrange
the blocks all different ways so that the marbles drop through
differently each time, depending on how you stack it together. Last
time I saw it was at Toys R Us, but it's been a while - and I'm not
certain of the name - maybe another noter has it??

If she wants it "permanent", you can glue the blocks together. We have
one that's glued, that was a display, that we got when the store went
out of business. Really COOL toy!! I bet some hobby shops would carry
    it too.

    Patty.

I know the toy you are speaking of. My daughter received one as a gift
for her birthday. She is very good at it, but we must supervise her as
one year olds and marbles don't make for a safe combination. Hers has
a little xylophone at the bottom of the last chute and the marble
chimes three little notes as it plunks to the bottom bin. It is cute
    and very well made.

This toy was brought over from Germany for her by her aunt, but I have
found some of the nice wood toys and puzzles at small specialty ($$)
toy shops and even at Learning Express. I would try those places over
    the bigger toy chains.

I called the manufacturer and they have a serious of automated

    receive it.

In Marlboro, there is a place called
"Wooden Gifts and Toys" (or something like that). It's
basically a workshop and the owner will make anything
you want and prices are reasonable. He has a lot of
toys already made, he may even have one.

It is located next to (to the west of) Bertucci's

Although you can't see it from the road, there is a
sign at the end of the driveway.

15.325Tonka Mighty Dump Truck 4X4MSE1::SULLIVANThu Nov 30 1995 11:0515
Our 5 year old son is thrilled about getting a "4x4 Dump Truck" from
Santa. A friend has one and Chris loves it.

The Problem: This is the standard Tonka Mighty Dump Truck except that
it has extra-large wheels. The wheels are about twice the width (~2.5") of
most Tonka trucks. But Tonka doesn't make these anymore. We called Tonka
and they made them that way for a few years but returned to the regular
wheels sometime in the past year (no one seems to know why the change).

We are still hopeful that some store may have old stock sitting on the
shelves. If anyone sees one, could you please let me know?

The last time I looked, my mother in law said "why don't you make
one?", which had not occurred to me! She gave me a dowel and some
nylon string and some eye hooks and I decided i didn't even need the
eye hooks - I just tied the whole deal! Rubber bands near the ends of
the dowels keep the string from sliding off.

This is great for kids - double the space and put the stuff it's ok to
reach where they can reach it! We used to keep the fancy dresses on
the top rod and they could wear any dress on the bottom rod any day.
The same child will not be caught dead in a dress today.
15.350use chain for strengthNYFS05::CHERYLCheryl Hamm, (215)943-5380Tue Jul 02 1996 13:0217
I made one for my closet, but I made it adjustable. I bought chain
(the swingset kind) with the rubber casing, some s-hooks and a closet
rod that screws into the wall. Loop the chain over the big rod and
secure with an s-hook. Then attach the new closet bar to the chain
with an s-hook (there are holes in the closet rod already).

you can change the height by cutting a small hole in the rubber tubue
covering the chain and slip the s-hook in.

the advantage of the tube over the chain is it doesn't tear clothes,
makes the chain more stable, and prevents little fingers from sticking
    in the holes.

I've used this in my closets for years.

I'm looking for a childs wooden step-stool - the one I have in
mind says "step up I'm tall, step down I'm small" written on it.
So far all I've seen are plastic rubbermaid stools (there are 2
models, one is too big and the other is just one step), and the
ones that flip over to become a potty.
15.357Specialty Stores/FurnitureMAL009::MAGUIRETue Sep 10 1996 09:5110
Try a specialty shop of some kind; i.e. unfinished furniture store. I
finally found a wooden stool in Salem, Ma. at Jeffrey Brothers
Furniture Store on Canal Street. It doesn't have any writing, but you
could paint anything that you wanted on it.

Maybe they have catalogs, I'm not sure, but they have very good quality
items. They sell both finished and unfinished things.

Looking for a child's size rain poncho that can be folded up
and left in the backpack for rainy walks from school. I've
found many adult size versions, but no kid (age 5) size ones.
I've seen them for sale at Walt Disney World, but I don't plan
(unfortunately) on a trip there in the near future.

Any pointers to mail orders, or stores in the Mass, let me know.

Where would I find one-piece underwear (onesies) for my 35 lb. 23
        month old boy?

I've been informed by Marshall's, Bradlees, and Kids R Us that
"nobody" puts their boys in onesies at this age. Am I really
        the only one?

I've had Angeline out of onesies for quite a while now. She's
at 31 lbs, almost 2 1/2 years. I do buy for her t-shirts at
a size four. They fit nicely at the top but are long, which is
great because they stay tucked in.

Maybe you could look into that? (The boy's of course :-) ).

15.384"baby garters?"BGSDEV::PENDAKpicture packin' mommaTue Feb 04 1997 11:2811
I put Aaron (just turned 2 and is 30.4lbs and 37 inches) in size 6
t-shirts. Those are long enough for my thin, long boy. I've seen
"garters" (I can't remember what they were officially called) in baby
catalogs like the Right Start or First Step that hook onto the front of
the shirt and loop between the legs and attaches to the back of the
shirt. It's been a while since I've gotten the catalog though, so I
don't know whether they're still available or not. I decided not to
use them because they look rather uncomfortable (though there is the
    diaper to pad it).

I use the baby garters to keep the turtlenecks tucked in. They
specifically say that they are for use with diapers only (pretty
painfull to sit on those things).

I picked them up for around $3 at the Baby Superstore. I got some
pretty big onsies at Burlington Coat factory. I don't need them yet,
but figured I would be in the same boat when he gets older.

Does anyone know where I could rent one of those moon walk enclosures?
They're the thing the kids can bounce around in, you see them at fairs
sometimes. My husband thinks you can rent one fairly reasonably but I'm
    not sure if they're available.

Two that my kids have enjoyed lying on the couch and watching (and sometimes
doing):

Workout With Daddy and Me (there's also a "...Mommy and Me" version)
	Barbie Workout

My son loves the PBS show on Sunday, "Bloopie's Buddies", which has a major
exercise component. Maybe they have a video? It's awfully boring for anyone
over the age of four or so, but it's a gentle show with lots of movement and
lots of little kids. (Think "Barney" with muscles.)

15.396cotton waistband underpants for boys?PETST3::STOLICNYFri May 30 1997 18:0510

Where can I find boys (say size 4ish and up) underwear without
