792.0. "Camping" by BRAT::FULTZ (DONNA FULTZ) Mon Aug 01 1994 13:23

I have been thinking about camping with my neice and nefew.

I was going to tent it but, think it would be better to rent
    	a popup camper..

Does any one have any suggestions on where I can rent a pupup?

I don't know about renting a pop-up, but we have tented and backpacked
our kids from newborn on up. They really do enjoy the tent and
    sleeping out on the ground.

How old are your niece and nephew? Most kids can sleep anywhere and in any
position; in a typical sleepover, they sleep on the floor. Another
possibility is to rent a tent (rental places or Yellow Pages under "Camping
Equipment rentals") that is big enough for folding cots. Still another
possibility is to sleep on the ground and get some air mattresses (and a
small pump).

As for sources of a popup, you might try the Yellow Pages under "trailers --
camping."

792.3Call campgrounds for rentalsTUXEDO::COZZENSMon Aug 01 1994 14:2811
Call the campground that you would like to stay at and ask them if they
rent trailers, some campgrounds have a few they will rent. There is
one in Poland Springs Maine that rents very nice ones and they are not
    that expensive.

The KOA campgrounds tend to rent small cabins. I know there are a
couple in New York and there is one in Littleton/Ayer, MA that rents
them. I don't know anything about them other than that they are there
    for the renting.

Jellystone Park has trailers on their campsite that you can rent. They
have a pool, miniture golf, playground, beachsite, and lots of
activities. Yogi raises the flag everyday etc. They have bathrooms,
showers, even a laundrymat. I got the brochure from the DEC activities
    group.

In June we camped with our 2 year old, as a previous note mentioned
- she loved it. Setting up the tent and other camp stuff
was a real treat for her.

792.7Any suggestions for Family Camping???LJSRV1::LEGERMon Jun 26 1995 13:5225
I think its time to re-open this note.

This weekend, we went camping w/Nicholas (18mos) for the first time, and
we had a great time! Everything went real well, even bed time!

What I was wondering, is there any places that "Parenting NOters"
visit frequently and really enjoy?

We visited Otter River in Winchendon this weekend, and it was nice, but
would prefer a place that has a little cleaner pond and has showers. It was a
nice place to go for 2 night...sort of a trial run, close to home.

What we are looking for is a place that has Bathrooms, Showers, lake, pond or
river for playing in, and wooded camp sites...

Have you visited any campgrounds in Mass, NH, Southern Maine or Southern VT?
What did you think? How were the facilities? I would be interested in Private
along w/State Campgrounds.

Thanks
Anne Marie

    Hi,
My husband and myself just made reservations this past weekend to go
camping with our 7 month old daughter for 9 days the last week of
July...this is the first time for her but we want to get her right into
it, because it is a big part of our lives...We are going to Lost River
Valley Campground in North Woodstock,N.H. It depends on how much you
are willing to pay. They have sone great sites on the brook and most
sites are close to bathrooms. The only thing is that the playground
area is across the street. They don't have any family activities that I
know of but they are pretty close to alot. Anyways, wish us luck,
                                                               Mary
there is also Glenn Ellis Family Campground in Glenn, N.H.

When I was a kid my family used to go to Wells State Park in Sturbridge for
a quick weekend trip. It had a nice pond for swimming and lots of trees
between campsites. I haven't been there for years (probably 15 or so!)
though.

My sister's family has been to Greenfield State Park in the past couple
of years and they really like it there. It's in Greenfield NH which is
not too far over the MA border.

If you're looking for something a bit further away, my all-time favorite
campground is called Papoose Pond. It's somewhere in Maine (but I have no
idea where -- Dad always drove!). It had a great little beach on a pond
with two slides going into the water, and good playground, huge, wooded
private campsites, and best of all, a square dance barn where they held
dances and Indian arts and crafts shows. I have lots of great memories
from that place...

	Hi,

Camping is great fun! We only go about once a summer now, but when
I was growing up we went alot. Last summer we took our 14 month
old (at the time) daughter camping at Greenfield state park. We went
with friends who's children were 2 and 3 yrs old. Everyone had fun,
the lake was clean and the sites were nice, only draw back was there
were no reservations since it's a NH state campground. I was nervous
that we'd get there and they'd be full, but no problem.

My husband's family camped at Clearwater Campground in Merideth, NH.
While he was growing up they were seasonal campers there. They liked
it so much they bought a cottage on the same lake (Lake Pemi) so now
we go there most weekends and don't go camping as much. But the
lake is clean and nice. The campground has a playground and showers.
It's right on RT 104 off Rt93 at exit 23.

	Have fun!

They take reservations now. We just made some this week.

We've camped at the Sea Vu campground in Wells, Maine.

It's right on route 1, and has bathrooms, showers, and
even washing machines! There is water at each site,
and there are sites with electricity for those with campers.

It's not deep woods camping, and is certainly not roughing it
(the campground has a miniature golf course, a small store,
and a pool), but it is technically camping. Ocean beaches
	are close by...

We took our 4-year-old twins camping to Hermit Island near Bath, Maine,
and it was excellent. Our campsite was right on the beach, so the kids
    really loved it.
