160.0. "Summer Camps - **Please reply by MAIL**" by AKOCOA::DASILVA () Tue Jun 09 1992 19:43

                     - COMPUTER SUMMER CAMP FOR CHILDREN -

HERE IS AN EDUCATIONAL SUMMER CAMP FOR YOUR CHILD!!

FUTUREKIDS is a fun filled learning adventure for children. FUTUREKIDS
of Metro West will be conducting summer camps sessions this summer.
Each summer camp consists of 2 sessions per week for 2 weeks. Each
session will be 2 or 3 hours per day depending on time of day. The
morning sessions are 2 hours while the afternoon sessions will be 3
    hours in length.

Two different camp experiences are available this summer. The July
sessions are the WORLD ADVENTURE, while the August sessions are the TIME
    MACHINE camps.

In WORLD ADVENTURE, campers will explore continents, create maps of
their travels, they'll write, illustrate and mail letters and postcards
to their loved ones back home. In their travel journal they'll keep
stories and pictures that describe their summer adventure to the far
    reaches of human habitation.

The TIME MACHINE campers will see how dinosaurs lived, explore some of
the distant past, and catch a glimpse of the future possibilities. Time
travel is a great stimulus for imagination and creativity. As part of
their adventure, campers will be employing a wide range of computer
based skills -- including graphics, simulation, and desktop publishing
for starters -- to document their experiences for those who couldn't
    travel with them.

For details on this unique learning and fun filled summer camp call:

30 Lyman Street (Westboro Shopping Center)

DIGITAL employees receive a 10% DISCOUNT on all summer camp sessions!!

My daughter will be attending summer camp.

160.1JEWISH COMMUNITY CAMP INFO?WMOIS::SPENCER_DEBWed Jun 10 1992 13:048
I'm looking for any experiences with the Jewish Community Camp (JCC) in
Lancaster, MA. Has anyone ever sent their children there? What was
your impression (good or bad)? Also, any info on curriculum,
adult/child ratio, transportation, rates, etc., would be appreciated.

    Thanx,
    Deb

You might also try asking in the Jewish interest notesfile
    (TAVENG::BAGELS).
160.3WMOIS::SPENCER_DEBWed Jun 10 1992 14:478
Actually, I am not Jewish, so I did not know about the other notesfile.
Thanks for the pointer. From what I understand, this camp is open to
anyone. I've heard from a couple of people that it is a very good
summer camp, but wanted to open it up for more discussion/opinions.

    Thanx,

160.4Would like feedback on Applewild Summer Day CampCAPNET::AGULEMon Jun 22 1992 17:5420

I would like some feedback regarding a summer camp I recently visited.

If anyone has any experience with it good/bad please send me a mail
message. I would greatly appreciate it.

APPLEWILD SUMMER CAMP - Fitchburg, MA

This is a camp that is run out of the Applewild School. This is a
private elementary school, they have a what seems to be a great
program, the councilor to child ratio in the junior camp is great.
I thought I would ask our community if anyone has had children
    enrolled.

Also, if anyone has any other leads on summer day camps that aren't too
    outrageous in price.

I'm looking for experiences/knowledge of an overnight camp in Ashby, MA
called "4-H Camp Middlesex." I've talked to the director and have
gotten curriculum, prices, etc., but was looking for some personal
    experiences, good or bad.

I'm also open to any other overnight camp referrals in the
Massachusetts/Southern New Hampshire, preferrably reasonably priced.
This is for my son, who will be 10 years old next month.

    Thanx!

I remember hearing about a summer camp in Northboro Mass, for kids of Digital employees. Does
anyone have any information about this camp? I don't recall all of the details - I believe it had
a Computer - Scienctific theme.

Anyone know of this camp being offered again this summer?

160.8Computer CampSQM::MCFARLANDWed Feb 03 1993 15:0214
It is usually held at the Hillside School in Marlboro on the Northboro
line. When I worked at MRO1 these were always signs posted on the
bulletin board announcing the program and who to contact for info.
I believe this is a bit early in the season for this to be announced
yet, start looking in LIVEWIRE for info on this I'd say sometime
    around April.

If I remember correctly there were 2 2 week sessions offered.

160.9Boy Scout/Girl Scout Day Camp in Southern NH ?KAHALA::JOHNSON_LLeslie Ann JohnsonTue Feb 23 1993 17:5512
My step-son has expressed an interest in going to a Boy Scout camp this
summer while he is here. Are there any Boy Scount camps that have day
camp programs in the Southern NH area ? We live in Merrimack, I will soon
be working in Merrimack (MKO), but my husband works in southern Nashua (ZKO).
Since this would mean taking our two children to different summer programs,
logistics would be an important consideration for us. Both he and his younger
sister have been going to Camp Sargent in Merrimack which has been really
convenient for us, but I'm afraid he's getting a little bored with it. Are
there any Girl Scout camps (with day programs) in the area as well ? Both
children are members of scout troops in Colorado.

Anyone have any experience with these Girl Scout camps:
    		Camp Albany Albany, NH
    		Camp Farnsworth Thetford, VT

Both offer Brownie sessions for girls entering 2nd and 3rd. Grade.
    Any experience with these?

If your girls went, how old were they and did they like it?

I'd love to hear from you - positive and/or negative info welcome.

Any recommendations for day camp in the Nashua/Merrimack/Bedford NH

I can recommend the summer program at the Manchester Gymnastics Academy
in Hooksett, where my stepdaughter (10) has gone in years past. She seems
bored with it, though, and would like to do something else this summer.

Did anybody go and collect handouts for summer day-camp in the

I'm looking for a sleepover camp for my 10 year old son, anywhere in
the New England area. Ideal would be one that had lots of nature/hiking,

should be no longer than 2 weeks. Anyone have any experience with
such camps that they'd recommend?

160.25Looking for Summer Camps. Westborough/Littleton/Leominster areasWECROW::HILLIn casual pursuit of serenity.Thu Mar 10 1994 20:0621
I'm looking for summer camp for my daughter. Rowena will be 9 this summer.

I need something that has an extended day (8ish to 6ish).

I've talked this over with her. She wants to do mostly day camp. In the past
she's gone to camps that have a sleepover option once a week and she likes
that idea.

She does not want to swim in a cold lake, which is her main complaint about
one previous camp. She also said she does not want to do something that is
like school. I think the 1994 Digital Summer Enrichment Camp looks good from
the description posted so I've phoned for details.

I live in Westborough and work in Littleton so camps in between the two are
most convenient. We may spend some tim ein Leominstaer so camps between
Leominster and Littleton are also of interest.

I'd really like to hear about peoples experince with camps in these areas.

Thanks,
Peter.

160.27BE AWARE - This could be humiliating to the childZENDIA::DONAHUE"Prioritize and act accordingly"Wed Mar 30 1994 16:4812
RE: -1

May I suggest, that unless the child is the one requesting to go to a weight loss
camp, put the idea out of your head.

I was an obese child. Unless you have been there, you don't know how humiliating
that could be. Even if done "out of love". If you love some one, you love them
for who they are, not how they look. At 12 years old, they are just approaching
the age when they will do something about the excess weight, if they want to.

I would be willing to talk to you off line, if you prefer. I just HAD to put in
my 2 cents when I read your entry.

The last 2 years, my son has gone to JCC in Lancaster which he really likes.

camp and 60 mile radius for an over night camp.

Does anyone have recommendations. Good/Bad experiences with any in
    particular.

160.37Where to find camp listings - and need inputSSGV02::CHASEMon Mar 27 1995 15:3225
First a question - I'm looking for recommendations/experiences on the
following overnight camps:

	Berea, Bristol NH
Lochearn camp for Girls, Post Mills VT
Farnsworth Girl Scout Camp, Thetford Hill VT
	Coniston, New London NH
	Betsy Cox, Pittsford VT

I've been told that you do not need to be enrolled in Girl Scouts in order
to attend GS camps. I believe the same is true for YMCA camps. You may
have to pay an additional non-member fee, but this is usually not very
high.

Now a recommendation - libraries carry all kinds of camp periodicals. These
guides contain lists of camps by state, (day and overnight) along with
cost, addresses, phone numbers, whether coed or single sex, etc. Ask
your reference librarian. These guides are published yearly. My library
had:

	Frost's Summer Camp Guide
American Camping Association Guide to Accredited Camps.

Camp green Erie, Bolton 508-853-1070. this is a girl scout camp, my
kids have gone every year since they were in first grade, (now they are
both in high school, this is the first year they are not going.)
The camp is excellent, there are a lot of programs to chose from, but
all programs include a bit of everything (swim lessons, hiking, etc.)
Becoming 'independent' for a week is great for them too, they each
start out not knowing anyone in their unit, (a scarey thing for them)
but they both always came back with lots of new friends.

You don't have to be a girl scout to get in, but GS's get first
preference and a $10 discount. You'll never find a better buy for your
money, but it may be too late to get in.

    Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with the Pelham NH Recreation Dept.
Summer Playground program. I've signed my daughter (7 1/2) up, but
this is my first experience with a summer playground/camp situation.
If anyone has sent one of their children to this, could you drop me a
note ? I'd be interested in what your opinions are and how the
days generally are structured. I've also signed her up for the
Red Cross swimming lessons, so any feedback on these would be
    appreciated as well.

    Thanks,

160.42Looking for day care/camp options near Boylston, MATERRPN::FINANThe sky was yellow and the sun was blueFri Jul 14 1995 17:5020
My daughter is currently attending day camp at the YMCA camp
Harrington in Boylston, MA. The weeks she is not at camp she
is spending the days with her after-school care provider or on
vacation with me with one exception, the week of July 24th-28th.
Her provider will be on vacation that week and its the week
before I start my 3-week vacation so taking it off is not an
option. I had made some arrangements for her but they fell
thru this morning. I thought about sending her to camp
but camp Harrington runs in two week sessions and I'd have
to pay for two weeks even if she is only attending one.

So, I'm looking for daycamp or daycamp options for the week
of July 24th thru July 28th some where near Boylston, MA or
between Boylston, Ma and Nashua, NH.

    Anyone got any suggestions?

have three lakes, a couple of mountains, excellent facilities, good

My daughter went to Pilgrim Day Camp two years ago. She's enrolled
to go again this summer. She is nine.

Sarah had a great time! It was worth the money. She got a lot
of individual attention, there was lots to do, and best of all, as
Sarah puts it, "no hanging around a tree, when someone has to go to
    the bathroom."

One of the reasons why she didn't like the Y Camp was because whenever
someone in the group had to go to the bathroom, they had to be escorted
because it was so far away. The other kids had to wait with the CIT
    for the counselor to return.

This is Sarah's story, so I'm not sure how often this happened. I
was definitely impressed with the ratio of kids to counselors at
    Pilgrim.
