315.0. "Birch Acres, Lanesboro, MA (NY border)" by BAGELS::SKINNER (happy wearin nuthin but a smile) Fri Jun 07 1991 22:34

Although I have never visited this resort, I am scheduled to go
in July so I thought I would enter in what I know about it now, and do
    an update after my visit.

Birch Acres is a 119 acre park on the Mass/New York border in
Lanesboro, MA (17 miles from Pittsfield). They have a swimming pool,
whirlpool, sauna, volleyball, tennis, shuffleboard, playground for
children, restaurant, lounge, rec hall and weekend entertainment.
During the summer weekends they have about 200-300 guests.

Facilities include a few cabin spaces, 150 tent spaces and 140 RV
spaces with water hookups. Seventy spaces include electric. There
are shower facilities and a disposal station.

Birch Acres welcomes singles, couples and families. You do not have to
be a member of a naturist organization to visit, but the following are
the 1991 prices for someone with a naturist affiliation (sorry, I
    didn't get the regular prices..):

    $20/day - single
    $24/day - couples
$10/night - camping (this is the fee for your entire party, if you are
with a group, it's $10 for the group)

The grounds open at 8 AM. If you arrive Friday night you pay for a
grounds fee for Friday! Call 413-738-5968 for more info.

315.1It was great!!!!LJOHUB::SNOWMon Jul 01 1991 22:5925
    Hi,

I went to Birch Acres this past Sat. night till Sunday. This was
my first time ever at any place when I could remove my cloths and
walk around with out them. It was great. I felt so free.

The ground are very nice. I camped. The camping is on the side of
a hill. It you put your tent going up the hill then you do not need a
pillow. I was able to see the stars out the back window of my tent.

There is a large swimming pool, with construction going on around
the pool. There is also all the things named earlier, whirlpool,
sauna, volleyballm tennis, shuffleboard. The playground is small but
they are trying to raise money to improve it.

On Sat. night there was dancing with music from cd's or records. The
floor is good size to dance on and everyone seemed to be having a good
    time.

It rained on Sunday, but I still went in the pool and the whirlpool
and I am planning on going back soon.

Hope to see some of you there.

       Cec

Is it reasonable to plan on cycling there, either on the grounds or in the area?
I'm not really familiar with the terrain in that part of MA, though I assume
that being in the Berkshires, it's not level. Rolling hills are fine, mountains
aren't. Dirt paths within their grounds are also fine (mountain bikes can
handle it), though I do insist on shoes, shorts, and helmet while on the bike.
And will the bikes be safe just left alone at a campsite, while we're pursuing
other activities?

Or should we leave the bikes at home?

I saw a note in REC_NUDE about this area changing management ... can
anyone update me about it. Has anyone been there this year? Is the
    phone number 413-738-5968 still applicable??
