432.0. "Phoenix -- w/o 5/16" by NITTY::DIERCKS (Not every celebration is a party!) Fri Apr 29 1994 13:37

I'm going to be in Phoenix to teach a class at Honeywell the week of
5/16. I'm actually arriving in town Friday night, the 13th. I'd love
to spend a couple of days in the sun in the buff. Can anyone give me a
pointer or two to places in the area where nude-sunbathing is
allowed/encouraged. I'll have a car, and would be willing to drive a
couple hours each direction, if necessary.

    Thanks!

432.1Some ideas in the Phoenix areaSWAM1::LEWIS_DLI'd rather be in Jamaica, monMon May 02 1994 23:2442
    Hi Greg,

There is one "official" place reasonably close to North Phoenix, (I
assume that you'll be in the north part of town since you indicated
you'd be at Honeywell). That place is Shangrai La Nudist Resort,
602-465-9416, at 46834 N. Shangri La Rd. New River, Arizona. If I
remember correctly it is about an hour or so north of Phoenix. I
"think" they allow single mem. Best bet is to call and get informatiom.

If you're in the south part of Phoenix, then there was a place towards
Tucson called Jardin Del Sol. If you are interested in that let me know
and I'll see if I can find out the phone number at least. Be aware that
if you are in north Phoenix and want to try and pursue Jardin Del Sol,
that it is at least an hour from north Phoenix to the southern edge of
town via the freeway. (Phoenix alone is over 480 square miles in area,
the whole Valley of the Sun, i.e., Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Glendale,
etc... is well over 800 square miles in area, it's BIGGGG, so be sure
which way you want to go :-) >>>.) It is then an additional 90 miles
from south Phoenix to the Tucson area, again via the freeway.

In addition there is the Canyon State Bares (if I remember correctly).
They primarily deal with the non-landed sites, i.e., river trips, trips
to the Colorado Lakes (ala, Lake Mead, and Lake Powell Houseboat
trips). If you get N&N from the The Naturists Society, (or have a
friend in your area that does that you can borrow from :-) ), the last
issue had a whole section on the Canyon State group. I assume you are
in the North East part of the country, yes????

Be prepared with PLENTY of sun lotion/block. By the middle of May it
will be at least 90+ degrees during the day, possible to be over 100
(it was 105 last May around the 15'th). Typically the sun will shine
all day, i.e., no clouds normally for relief from the suns rays. Be
prepared and drink lots of fluids. We're in the desert :-). By the way
at any of the above area's you will be in the desert, so proper care
needs to be taken if you decide to go off into the desert alone and try
to find someplace on your own. Rattle snakes and scorpion's will be out
that time of the year. If you go to someplace like Shangri La, the
heavily used area's should be no problem, other than the heat.

Let me know if you need more info.

I thought Shangri-La went out of business a couple of years ago...
