446.0. "St. Osyth, Clacton, UK." by LARVAE::JORDAN (Chris Jordan, MS BackOffice Centre, UK) Mon May 22 1995 19:47

    Approach:
From Colchester, head towards Brightlingsea and Clacton. Turn left
into St. Osyth village, and continue straight through the village.
Travel straight through the holiday camp (very busy) at the end of the
road, and continue over the sea wall, until you are just 2 feet from
the beach proper - where you turn right.
One mile away the track along the front of the beach opens out and you
can park. A four-wheel drive vehicle will have no problems. SOme of the
sports cars were not going all the way! In my company car (as it was my
first visit, I chickened out of driving through what looked like shallow
floods first visit) - because I didn't want to get stuck - but others
were driving through them no problems.

The parking area opens onto marram grass and sand dunes - a bit stoney
and rocky so you need something to sit on, and then these open out onto
a beach that is also rocky - but has patches of sand.

How busy is it?? No idea. On Sunday the temperature was 15 degress,
with a cold easterly wind - and the 20 people were sheltering next to
their cars, or completely surrounded by wind breaks in the sand dunes.

I expect that it is close enough to the holiday camp for quite a few
    peekers during the summer.

    Cheers, Chris
