383.0. "an interesting observation" by SSDEVO::PEAKS::MCCOY (which way to the beach?) Tue Jul 14 1992 21:58

ADMISSION: I'm starting a new topic because I'm too lazy to search
around and find a revelent one to post this in :-).

As I've been sitting here waiting for a new version of my code to
build I've been thinking about one of the most common subjects
discussed here and in rec_nude. It's the subject of body acceptance. On
a fairly regular basis there are postings (typically from "newcomers")
worring about not having a "perfect" body. The replies are always the
same: we're all different, we all come in different shapes and sizes,
we all have different "imperfections" (notice the quotes). The replies
go on to talk about the fact that we're all just plain folks and no one
really tends to take notice or care about what you look like, but
accepts people for who they are. The message is that the fact that
you're not a "10" isn't even going to be noticed.

Now all of this leads up to a little story about an experence I had a
couple of years ago. I was spending an afternoon soaking up some rays
at the Desert Reef Beach Club and there were quite a few people there
doing the same. I talked with some people, floated around the pool for
a while and did some reading. Typical day. It wasn't until I was
driving home that it occured to me that one of the women that had been
there that day had what could be called a "perfect body". The deal is
that the whole time I was there I hadn't really taken notice of that.
In fact the only reason she had come to mind was that she had consumed
a wee too much beer and was getting a little loud about the time I
    left.

I guess that what I'm getting at, the moral of the story so to speak,
is that body looks aren't an issue, one way or the other. In a
naturalist setting you are who you are, not what you look like. I
find that I'm much more relaxed in socal nude situations then any
others and find it much easier to talk and meet people. I know this has
all been said before, but it is one of the things I enjoy most about
    nuding.

Looks like my code is done. We now return you to you're regularly
    scheduled noting.

sorry, I notice "perfect 10's" regardless of how loud they are.

    I'm not judgemental - I'm no 10 - very few are

But come on, when someone is really striking, male or female, clothed
or not, most people at least notice the fact!

I've been a member at the DRBC for the last 3 years and to be honest
the "10's" recieve little if any extra notice. I have found that
personality rates much higher if the inside is ugly being beautiful
outside will still get you ignored.

Ah, Gort, you see my point.

I'm not blind to the beauty around me. I've just noticed that, for me
anyway, when I'm in a social nude situation the differences between
"1's" and "10's" seem to dwindle in importance. People are taken more
for who they are then what they look like. And, to be honest, it makes
me feel better about myself that I can (at least somewhat) not make
judgements based on outward apperences but rather on who a person
really is (no self-righteousness assumed - I've got a LONG way to
	go yet :-).

I appreciate the beauty of a naked human body as far as I like it
irrespective of whether it is a perfect body or not. After all we
should appreciate nature's creativity for having given such a variety.
There is no question of knowing inner beauty because you cannot know
about it in a short time.
