367.0. "The Caribbean" by WMOIS::ALCORN_R () Mon Apr 20 1992 14:52

    Has anyone gone to the Caribbean in recent years? If you have, could
    you share your experiences in finding c/o and non-textile beaches? What
    places would you reccomend? If you are familiar with areas that permit
    camping, would you also pass that information along?

367.2Just A Bit More.WMOIS::ALCORN_RMon Apr 20 1992 22:253
    Thanks for reminding me about note 7.3...however, I'm looking for a bit
    more with regard to various experiences and information about camping
    possibilities.
367.3Orient BaeGIAMEM::BMORRISONBill MorrisonTue Apr 21 1992 20:085
    I don't know about capming, but Orient Beach in St Martin is a
    great CO place. The beach is great and the people are nice. It's
    a resort.

367.4camping on St. JohnsMILPND::ADAMSTue Apr 21 1992 22:0815

    The only camping in the islands that I am aware of is on the island of
    St. Johns in the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are two campgrounds and
    are not clothing optional.

    I believe some of the secluded beaches on St. Johns are used for skinny
    dipping, but the USVI tend to be very conservative. Like the US. I
    visited St. Croix and although the beaches are beautiful and many are
    secluded, they don't let you bare your buns.

    I agree with .3 about Baie Oriente in St. Martin.

367.5Try Leinster bay St. JohnJUPITR::DUVALWed Apr 29 1992 01:1212
    I'm new to the conference, and to DEC, but I have enjoyed the naturist
    experience in the Virgin Islands. I have chartered sailboats in the
    islands for several weeks, and I can tell you that there are many
    remote islands and cays which are accessible only by boat, and the
    most I ever saw the rangers on St John do is reach for their
    binoculars. My favorite little island is waterlemon (not watermelon)
    cay in Leinster bay St. John. The good news is that you can wade out
    to the island from St. John. You can camp on St. John and take a taxi
    to Leinster bay.

    Enjoy,
    Paul

    Don't know about camping but I just got back from St Martin and
    found all of the beaches on the French side that we went to had
    at least a CO "section". Our favorites were Baie Rouge, Orient
    Beach and the little beach at our hotel (only because the pool,
    bar and room were right there :-)).

    The more uptight Americans tend to stay away from the French side
    or only go for a day so they can tell the folks back home they've
    seen a nude beach :-} They usually go to Orient for that, so it's
    pretty quiet on the other French beaches because nudity/toplessness
    is the norm.

    I also like the idea that it's common to have a bar set up on even
    the more remote beaches, so you can have a drink as you lie there.

    If only the majority of Americans would realize that you can be naked
    and drink in public and not have any trouble come out of it...
