296.0. "Banbury, England information needed" by RHODES::KEEL () Thu Feb 28 1991 18:18

In May, I will be going to England for three weeks. I would like to find an
area where nuding is permitted. Also, is the weather warm enough at this
time of year? The area where I will be going to is north of Qxford to a RAF
base on the outskirts of Banbury. Any information will be used. Thanks.

    Normally, May wouldn't really be warm enough (I'm an American who
    usually finds England chilly, even in July), but considering the
    crazy ( ie *hot*) summers they've been having the last couple of
    years, you might just luck out.

    As for a place to go nuding...hmmm...I'll leave that to the natives
    to provide info.

    Have good trip!

    PS Is it Upper Heyford you're going to? I seem to remembere that being
       on the route to Banbury.

Hi Tom,

I direct you to a couple of my notes from last year as to where I recommend.
As for places inland, you'd probably have to find a club to go to, which as
a single (read "not with wife or girlfriend") male is difficult at the best
of times, even when you live over here.

From Oxfordshire, you have about a 2-3 hour drive to Studland bay. I should
try this rather than either Brighton (also about 2-3 hours away) or Fairlight
Glen (which would be about 3 - 4 hours).

By May, the weather should be OK, though don't expect any heat-waves ;-)
Good weather can't be guaranteed, though.

If you need directions to Bournemouth from where you are in Oxfordshire,
mail me. Note, the times depend on where you are in Oxfordshire, the level
of traffic, and day you travel on (start out EARLY if you want to drive on
May bank holiday weekend!!!)

Have a good trip.

Rob.
296.3Nude - now? not me.DUCK::NASHDSat Mar 16 1991 08:0618
    Maybe I'm a closet nudist I don't know, anyway I saw this conference
    and I've been looking through it when I saw this note.

    I live 26 miles from Oxford, and it's a little further to Banbury.

    Studland Bay, Bournemouth or Brighton , in fact anywhere outdoors in
    the nude at this time of year? Do you have thick skin?. I went out
    this morning with 3 layers over my torso and the top layer was a
    Berghaus jacket! The heater was on in the car as well when I was
    driving.

    But it's going to be a glorious summer - I hope.

    I seem to remember there is a comms centre belonging to you folk
    somewhere near Banbury but I'm not sure if it's a part of Upper Heyford
    or not.

296.4Summer's coming..DUCK::NASHDSun Mar 24 1991 16:007
    The other place I was referring to in -.1 is RAF Croughton which is the
    base of the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing. Then again there is RAF
    Weston-on-the-Green also in the area.

    It's actually getting warmer now incidentally....

296.5Coming in MayRHODES::KEELTue Mar 26 1991 14:5512
    Dave,

    I will be at the RAF Croughton Base for the 2.5 weeks. I will be
    arriving there morning of May 5th. The class starts on Tuesday
    the 7th. So the the way I see it, I will have both Sunday and Monday
    of plus two other weekends to get around. It sounds good that it
    is getting warmer.

    Thanks for the info.

    Tom,

    By the way, you'll need a car. Croughton is, as you would expect,
    nowhere near any where.

    Is it your first visit here?

    PS: It's 12 Celsius today!!!
