165.0. "Nude dreams and embarrassment" by BSS::RJONES (Sow there!) Mon May 22 1989 21:52

Here's a curiousity question for enthusiasts and others:

Many folks, including myself, have had dreams about being
nude (usually publicly) which is accompanied by a feeling
    of embarrassment.

Do NATURISTS also have such dreams? If so, are these dreams
also accompanied by a sense of embarrassment, as well?

    Is there any connection?

    Rich:

Depends on the person, the time of year, etc., etc., etc.. If you've
never done it before you may well feel a tinge of excitement when
seeing someone (anyone for that matter) naked "in public." However,
and this is hard for the inexperienced to believe, shortly thereafter
seeing just another body soon has less and less impact until you
reach the stage that it becomes virtually unimportant.

What IS important, however, is the freedom you feel at that instant
when the event becomes unimportant. I note that ladies no longer
stare at the ground as they approach. I note that people speak
to each other freely. I note that husbands and wives can talk to
other husbands and wives with utterly no thought to body coverage.

Believe it or not (and perhaps it is because of my age ... I keep
forgetting that I am at retirement age!) I seem to see human beings
or persons. Some are in the lady's package, some are in the man
suit. But within each there is a person. A live, vibrant, fine,
wholesome person. That package serves its purpose of housing, in
addition to that person, the mechanism to reproduce the race. Each
person has one kind of mechanism or the other.

The magic of it all is that, generally speaking, persons in one
package are attracted to persons in the other package, fall in love
and create families. The magic of it all is that those same people
can intermix with other families or persons without affecting the
love between those who are truly in love.

SO: Go to the beach ... enjoy the kick out of starting the Naturism
Experience. Enjoy the tinge of embarrassment, the fling of seeing
so many of the opposite sex all at once. Enjoy the climb from the
"Gee-Whiz" state to the beautiful, calm, and free state as your
being becomes accustomed to Naturism. It's a great world out there.
We need to love everyone in it. We need to eliminate all the social
differences (real and imagined) between persons and peoples. We
need to learn ... at long last ... what the true life values are.
Definitely those values are not the peek-a-boo sex we see on TV, nor the
drug culture that ravages our people, nor the thug upon thug kind
    of governments we find everywhere.

No ... it is the free intermixing of people, their cultures, and
attitudes ... so we can climb the mountain of love and live together
and make this world a far more beautiful place than it is today.

We were born naked. I believe we must return to that state to get
a better handle on what life is all about. Once we learn that,
it matters not whether we have clothes on or we don't. What matters
is that people love people, that people respect people, that people
are male and female equally in any activity. AND that people stop
hating each other just because we always done it that way.

    Richard,

I must admit, that I've had the type of dreams that you mentioned,
but it was a long time ago and before I ever went to a nude beach.
For some reason, I don't think I'm capable of having that type of
dream now. Perhaps because I don't find being nude in public
embarassing at all, my dreams would contain something that I *do*
find embarrassing. All dreams supposedly are symbolic of other
things and don't necessarily suggest exactly what you are dreaming
about. I believe that dreaming of being nude in public and feeling
embarrassed is symbolic of having "something to hide" and possibly
being found out. It's really the idea of being "exposed" - not
being naked that's embarrassing. Dreams like this are fairly common,
    I think.

165.3DO THEY MIND?BSS::ENGERWed May 31 1989 17:485
I don't usually remember my dreams but coincidently just last week
I do remember dreaming about, sharing a shower in a public shower
    room with a couple ladies.
As I recall, the only thought I had was, I wonder, if they mind?"
I don't know what that means but since you asked....

    re: .3

Perhaps I shouldn't say this but I somehow can't quite resist.
Nearly ten years ago I was a member of "Getting In Touch", a massage
school which also had a clothing-optional membership on 40 acres
in the Santa Cruz Mtns. It was and probably still is a very beautiful
and serene place (although Getting In Touch ceased operating about
5 years ago.) In any case, I joined an optional "birthday fantasy
club", which had as its premise doing whatever fantasy you had on
your birthday. Participation was strictly voluntary and you could
have that fantasy fulfilled only if someone else would participate
in it (obviously.) Some people had group massages, some had food
eaten off their bodies, etc., etc. Since there was a taboo on
overt sex, clearly most of the stuff was harmless (considering
the environment, etc.) For overt sex, there was the option of
renting a cabin and doing in private whatever people wish to do
    in private.
Well, my fantasy was to shower (or bathe) with as many women
as I could, both to be bathed by them and to bathe them. I had
four women show up. I don't know how much more I need to say, but
I can say I had a couple of hours of great fun, until all the hot
    water was gone, anyway.
I hope this adds a little more reality to your dream...it
certainly was a "dream come true" for me at least once.

    re: Jay

Well, actually I wouldn't mind doing this again, but strictly
for science, you understand. There is an element of fun, though,
especially when four of *them* volunteer to scrub and lather poor
little ole *me* without using their hands. Sort of reminds me
    of jello, for some reason.
Actually, it was fun for everyone, as far as I could tell.
And I found it very therapeutic. :-) I have never since had any
locker room nightmares, though I have had many locker room dreams
similar to .0. What this goes to show, though, is that fantasy
and "reality" are not necessarily the same. It is similar to what
people think about nudity in that being clothed can sometimes be
"sexier" (because it lends more to fantasy?) than being naked
(when the "raw truth" is more obvious?). "Sexiness" is a product
of the mind, it is a context...being naked is only a form or a
content; without the context it is meaningless.
