119.0. "Boston area c/o winter swims" by MOIRA::FAIMAN (light upon the figured leaf) Tue Oct 18 1988 17:00

New England Naturist Association will have monthly clothing-optional
swims at an indoor private pool south of Boston during the 1988-89
winter months. These will be held during the evening hours of the
third Saturday of the month, November through April.

Admission is open to NENA members and their guests. For information
    on NENA, see note 24.

119.1A Naturism Notes Group Swim?SALEM::JWILSONFri Nov 04 1988 12:3218
Any interest in getting a group together and attending one or more
of the winter swims? It seems like our friends in Colorado are
doing all the socializing, and we in the populous Northeast are
just talking! ;^) Here's a good chance for us to meet and enjoy
    a break from winter's bite.

I'm sure there are enough NENA members in our group to ensure access
for non-members (guests). I have sent in my application to NENA,
and am still awaiting a response. But I'll take the action item
of contacting NENA directors to find out what the requirements,
    fees, etc. are.

Shall we start with the swim on Nov. 19? Please respond here, or
write me on SALEM::JWILSON. (Or Jack Wilson @NIO if you prefer.)

Looking forward to seeing you all (No double entendre intended!)

    Jack

Sounds like an interesting idea...though I can't make it on November
    19. I've been thinking about joining NENA, but I'm not sure what
it gets me that the Naturist Society doesn't already provide.

119.4Maybe Next Month?SALEM::JWILSONLust gets in the way of LucidityMon Nov 14 1988 13:3612
Looks like there won't be a Naturism Notes group this time. I had
a fair number of responses saying that they were interested in some
of the swims, but that they already had plans for the 19th. I'll
still be going, so if anyone decides at the last minute, you may
    still contact me.

BTW, the swims will be held in Fall River, so car-pooling would
    be a definite plus!

Look forward to getting together in the future months,

119.5Report on Saturday's swimSALEM::JWILSONJust A Natural ManMon Nov 21 1988 11:5635
I went to the NENA swim on Saturday night. There were about 50
people there, about 2/3 of whom were male. There was one family
group that included a boy of about 4, and another about 10. Apart
from that, the ages ranged from early 20's to 70+. The people were
very congenial, although many seemed to be with their own group,
and little intermixing seemed to occur.

The pool was privately owned, and was somewhat small for the number
present. The water was quite warm, and very pleasant (clean, with
not Too much chlorine). It had a deep end (9'?) where there was
a springboard. It was really too crowded for very much diving,
however. The hot tub was not in operation Saturday, but the owner
said it will be available next month.

There was an incident with an unfriendly neighbor, wcich was resolved
without major incident. Many of us parked on the wrong side of
a parking lot (the neighbor's side), and he called tow trucks to
get us out. Before they started towing, the offenders moved the
cars off of his property. The neighbor later called the police
about the party. A police sergeant investigated, found that we
were a quiet group (without coming into the pool area), saw that
there was no way one could determine we were nude from the outside
(what windows were present were all steamed over from the heated
water), and left the group with no further incident.

The people were very mellow, and I did not see any example of rude
behavior. People brought beer and wine (in addition to snacks),
but noone appeared to be drinking excessively.

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. I wish it were closer
to Nashua, but it only took me about 90 minutes to get there. I
look forward to future swims, and to having others in this conference
    join me.

119.7December 17 Swim Info.SALEM::JWILSONJust A Natural ManFri Dec 09 1988 13:5418
Saturday, Dec. 17, there will be a NENA CO swim held in New Bedford, MA,
from 8:00 P.M. to midnight+. I enjoyed the last one I attended, but due
to a previous commitment, will not be attending this month's swim.
There is a group of Naturist noters who have expressed an interest,
however. (About 6 people, 3 men and 3 women.) One of those women,
has agreed to organize a car pool. As she is a Read-only Noter,
please contact me regarding meeting place, time, etc. if you are
interested in attending this swim.

If you are interested in attending, but do not wish to car pool, please
contact me for directions.

Hope you enjoy the swim! Look forward to joining you on January 21
(same location, same time).

Enjoy your holidays,

Did anyone attend Saturday's NENA swim? How was it?

If I am in the Boston area on the 19th of January, I would like to attend
the swim. Anyone out there that is a NENA member willing to take a friend

I didn't go this past Saturday, but will be going on the 19th.
I hope to have Some kind of a group, and would Love to have you

Looking forward to meeting you, and our other Colorado and West

Jack, I don't know where I came up with the 19th! The 21st is the third
weekend of January! Must have been looking at 1988...nope that doesn't
check out either. Hmmm....

Travel is on again, off again around here. My boss says I will be going,
we just don't have a solid timeframe yet. I will keep everyone informed.
And hopefully, it will be around the time of the swim! I'd like to meet
people that I've 'talked' with in this notefile.

Judy - Regardless of the date, I look forward to meeting you, and
hope you will be in the area on the 21st. And being 1/16 Mohawk,
and knowing very little about my Native American heritage, I'm hoping
you can expand my knowledge in that area.

Otherwise, let's plan on Moonstone or someplace else that is appropriate.

I'm sorry too, Judy. I know I, for one, would have enjoyed meeting
    you. Another time...

But for those who Will be in the greater Boston area on Jan. 21,
there *Will Be* a Naturism Noters contingency at the NENA swim.
I will be leaving Nashua, NH at about 7:00, and will be happy to
stop off en route (say, Marlboro?) and meet other noters who wish
to car pool. If anyone who has not already contacted me wishes
to join us, please send me mail (SALEM::JWILSON, or Jack Wilson
@NIO). If you prefer to go by yourself, and need directions, please
send me mail to that extent, also.

I know it's short notice, but I just got the notification in the
mail. Anyone interested in car pooling to, or meeting at, the Nautilus
Plus Health Club this Saturday? They are having a Clothing Optional
swim, with steam room, jacuzzi, sauna, and (Clothing Required) Nautilus
Room. It is in Revere, MA Saturday from 8:00 P.M. to midnight.
The cost is $10 per person.

I will be leaving from the Nashua Area at around 7, but would be
happy to stop along the way.

Directions from points north - Take Rte. 1 south (from I-95/128
heading north) and exit onto Rte. 60 in Revere. Go 3/4 way around
rotary onto Squire Road (Rte. 60 east). passing the Northgate Shopping
Center. At the Firestone Tire traffic light (Charger Rd.) turn
left and proceed to the open parking lot at the very end for Nautilus
Plus. "Lock your vehicle - this is an urban area."

From points south, the directions are similar, only take the Tobin
Bridge to Rte. 1 heading north.

    Hope to see you there!

119.16NENA membership requiredMOIRA::FAIMANlight upon the figured leafTue Nov 14 1989 16:3611
Note that NENA events are restricted to NENA members (although each member
can bring one guest or couple). If you are inclined to attend this event, you
should either make arrangements to attend as the guest of a member, or (better)
become a member yourself. I don't know whether memberships will be available
at the door, but you could call the NENA message center at (617)327-0273 to
find out.

Also, if this event gets a good enough turnout, it may be repeated monthly
throughout the winter.

119.17A Resounding Success!CGHUB::WILSONYou CAN Tuna friend's nose!Mon Nov 20 1989 15:1730
So the first NENA swim at the new location (Nautilus Plus in Revere)
was a total success! There were 78 people, with 50 needed to break
even on the rental. They not only paid for the rental and the special
mailing; they were able to set aside moneys which may be used towards
the purchase of LAND! (NENA, because of the Moonstone situation,
is looking to purchase property somewhere in New England for a
naturist Camp similar to Lupin, in California.)

There will be future swims at Nautilus Plus in January, February,
and March. Each will be held on the 3rd Saturday (as it stands
today). I will keep you posted as info is received.

I had the real pleasure of meeting the Wassermans Saturday! Deb
and Gary were very nice, and excellent company! Mark, on the other
hand, was so bored of the proceedings that he slept through almost
the whole thing! (Mark is their adorable 1-month old new addition,
and was so quiet you'd never know he was there!)

The club itself was very nice, and HUGE! It had about the longest
indoor pool I've ever seen, ditto the Nautilus/weight room. There
were two hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, even massage rooms (which
got a workout!) Videos on Naturism/Nudism were shown on a giant
screen TV next to the bar. The people who manage the club were
very happy with the behavior of the naturists (Not surprisingly!)
and will be happy to have us return.

So mark your calendars for Jan. 20! Hope to see lots of fellow
    noters at the next swim.

119.18Winter swim coming up - Jan. 20th!VICKI::BACONFri Jan 12 1990 14:1626
    Hi all,

I recently joined NENA and received the newsletter with the Health
Club info for the upcoming swim - Saturday January 20! I can't
    wait!!!!!

To clear up the question about members/non-members of NENA......

ANYONE can go. You do not need to be a NENA member.

Cost: $10 per person for NENA Members & their Guests. NENA member
must have NENA card with them, and each member is allowed
bring one person or one couple only as their guest(s).
Also - Guests of NENA members must arrive with their sponsors
to obtain the discounted usage fee.

$13 per person for non-members. Non-members can join NENA
at the swims it they would like ($25.00 per year).

I know of several people who are going from this notesfile, and
maybe a few more will go now that we know it's open to anyone.

See you on the 20th! (Directions are posted in a previous reply
    to this note.)

119.19a little more infoVICKI::BACONFri Jan 12 1990 15:5221
I forgot to mention in .18 - that if anyone would like a copy of
the information on the swim - I will xerox it and send it to you.
It includes a little info on the Health Club facilities, and has
a couple of maps, along with the written directions.

It may not get to you before Jan 20th (we all know how long internal
mail takes!), but it might get there in time. If you want a copy,
just send me your mail stop.

    Thanks,

    - Molly -

Also - another thing I forgot to add in .18. NENA asks that you
bring at least two towels, one for sitting on (proper etiquette),
and one to dry off with. They suggest bringing refreshments to
share. They say you may bring a deck chair for poolside lounging.
And to bring a lock for lockers.

Disclaimer - I haven't been to one of these swims yet - so I'm just
    quoting from the NENA newsletter.

NENA members and their guests. It's $15 for anyone else. You might

Hi Ben (and others),

I was the one who came bearing a newspaper. Good luck finding

I won't attempt to print his name since he's still a read-only.
Jack I do know...I just don't remember what he looks like after 18 months! :-)

It was nice just sitting around to pool talking to all these people, regardless
of which group they were in.

Try VolleyBall in a racquetball court. Can't use the ceiling, though
alternate rules allow using the walls. Ball is in play as long as it doesn't
touch the floor.

It was an interesting sight to walk into that health club and see bodies
flying around trying to hit the ball...:-)

According to TMS, Phil is still here. So I am, busy but still here. :-)
This morning's cold (wind chill of 30 below) makes me want Spring to arrive
even sooner. It's to darn cold to do much nuding, even indoors. The furnace
is having a hard time keeping up with the wind sucking the warmth out of the

119.67Naturist New Hampshire event reportMLTVAX::FISHERKill your televisionMon Oct 12 1992 17:3220
Last Saturday I attended the NNH (Naturist New Hampshire) Fall Fling, held
at Don's Health and Fitness Club in Concord, NH. This facility is not as
large as Nautilus Plus in Revere, Mass, and not really as nice either, but
there is a pool and hot tub, basketball, a room full of Nautilus-type
equipment, and wallyball set up in one of the raquetball courts, and people
were having a good time. I would guess attendance at around 30-35 people,
which is not bad for a first event. According to Merrill Mudgett, the
organizer, a lot of people had heard about the event either through this
notesfile or on the usenet group rec.nude; most of the people I talked to
had network access.

At closing, it was agreed that it was a good idea and we would do it again.
A good group of people, and nearly an hour shorter driving distance (each
way) than to the NENA events in Revere.

For more information about Naturist New Hampshire, write to them at P.O. Box
566, Tilton, NH 03276, or call Merrill at (603)524-5805. Membership is
$15/year.

    Just out of curiosity...

I'm assuming that the Health club was open to regular members at the
same time that the Fall Fling was being conducted. With that, how did
regular club goers react to having a c/o event?

    Or am I missing something?

It's time once again for the new season of Indoor Swims sponsored by
NENA, held at the Nautilus Plus health club in Revere, MA.

The first one this year is Saturday, October 16th, and the theme is
Halloween! Anyone wearing a costume (or, rather, un-costume) is eligible
to win free admission to another swim this season. The time for this
opening event is 8PM - 2 AM, featuring DJ music and dancing (usual
    hours are 8-12 midnight).

The swim is a clothing-optional event. The cost is $10 per person for
NENA members and their guests and members of other Naturist organizations.
Others are $15. If you arrange to arrive with a NENA member you can
get the cheaper rate, but you have to arrive at the same time (or wait
for them outside the door.) First timers need to call in advance,
800-722-6362. Do NOT call the health club (unless you are lost..)

The club is very nice, and HUGE! It has a large indoor pool, and a
gigantic Nautilus/weight room. There are two hot tubs, steam rooms,
saunas, walleyball, racquetball, and massage rooms. Videos on
Naturism/Nudism are shown on a giant screen TV next to the bar.
    Some nights include dancing.

It is suggested that you bring refreshments to share and a lock for
the locker and a towel to sit on.

Directions from points north - Take Rte. 1 south (from I-95/128
heading north) and exit onto Rte. 60 in Revere. Go 3/4 way around
rotary onto Squire Road (Rte. 60 east). Passing the Northgate
Shopping Center. At the Firestone Tire traffic light (Charger Rd.)
turn left and proceed to the open parking lot at the very end for
Nautilus Plus. Please lock your vehicle.

The calendar for the remainder of the season (Every 3rd Saturday through
