38.0. "Naturist Gatherings: Announcements and Reports" by GENRAL::KILGORE (COME ON SPRING!) Mon Mar 28 1988 03:00

Here's something for California naturists or someone heading there
the first part of June. There is going to be a Western Naturist
Gathering at the Rawhide Ranch in the Sierra Nevada Foothills near
Sacramento, California. The River Dippers of Sacramento are the
    Area Host group.

Date is June 2-5, 1988. There will be "workshops and recreation,
with plenty of time for leisure and naturist cameraderie".
Reservations are requested, for further info contact:

    	The River Dippers
    	P.O. Box 2693
    	Sacremento, CA 95812

Some activities and topics of discussion include Naturist Videos,
Naturist Slide Photography, Lifestyle Workshops, Where to find and
How to nurture public clothes-optional beaches, massage and a Field
Trip to a nude beach on the American River...just to name a few!

The brochure we received from the Naturist Society did not mention
a price. There are RV hookups and Motel Facilities. Camping will
be permitted and there is a new restaurant.

If anybody goes, you'll fill us in on how much fun it was, right?

I got something from them with the price on it, but since I can't
go, I didn't keep it. I remember it being rather inexpensive though,
something like $10/night per person, couple, or family (I do remember
it being the same for any size family group). The motel rooms were
also relatively inexpensive, but they indicated not particularly
    available.

		    EASTERN NATURIST GATHERING

at Camp Akiba in the Poconos
			June 16-19, 1988
cohosted by the Tri-State Sun Club

Naturism is on its way to general public acceptance, one of the reasons
the '88 gathering will be held at a non-naturist facility. The 8th
Annual Gathering will be the biggest and best ever.

Experience the woodland charm of Camp Akiba, a beautiful 350-acre
paradise in the heart of the Pocono Mountains in eastern Pennsylvania,
15 minutes west of Stroudsburg. Camp Akiba is rated the #1 camp for
boys and girls in the state. Its 40 acre lake offers fishing,
rowboating and canuding. There are two Olympic-size swimming pools, 17
tennis, volleyball, basketball and hockey courts, and numerous athletic
fields for camping. There are 80 cabins that sleep 8-10 people, and
spacious indoor facilities including an auditorium accomodating 1000
    people.

There will be lots of scheduled activities, including an exciting
program of workshops, exhibits, sports and entertainment, with naturist
    fellowship for all ages.

Bring the kids! Save the dates! For additional information contact:

    AKIBA:

After being completely lost wandering around the backroads of Penna.,
    I finally found the place.

Extremely nice people. Youngsters, Midsters, Oldsters ... the works!

    Reasonably good food.

Beautiful place. 35 Acre pond with a brook or two at one end and
    a dam at the other.

Everyone was better behaved than I ever saw anywhere else.

Spoke to the manager: Never had such a nice crowd of people during
    the off-season renting season.

Cabins galore, yet virtually none visible from the lake.

    Canoes aplenty and boats.

Two swimming pools and a couple of jakuzis(?), too.

Lots of pre-determined entertainment ranging from jokes to art and
    then some.

Volley Ball (of course), tennis, and one Bocci Ball set (mine!!!).

Lots of serious activities indicating that there is more than just
    funnin' in Naturism.

For example, I had a Cancer Screening Center which pulled in which
must have been a hundred or more participants. We were mapping
the moles (and other lesions) on people's bodies so they might have
a base-line reference for regular comparisons from here out. Most
satisfying and wholesome experience. Nicest people in the world.

The show was a little weird, I thought, but I still found some if
    very funny.

Although there were many photographers noone was photographed unless
the subject was notified. One newspaper crew was ejected for not
playing nicely according to the rules. (It was on private property,
    don't forget).

If anyone would like a body map form, I'll gladly share a couple
    for each couple.

Well, Real Life (tm) has been interfering with my posting addiction, but
I wanted to at least get this out for anyone who might be interested in
attending the 1989 Eastern Naturist Gathering, June 15 - 18, near Canadensis
Pennsylvania. You don't have to be a member of any club to attend(though it
is cheaper if you are a member of the Naturist Society or the American
Sunbathing Association). You don't need reservations ahead of time, unless
you want to stay in a cabin, or get the meal plan.

From the Tri-State Sun Club:

Dear Naturists:

I am glad (relieved?) to report that nearly everything
for this year's Naturist Eastern Gathering and Mid Summer Cele-
bration is falling into place. We're still working on entertain-
ment and expect to have something for Thursday evenings for those
signing up for the full effect (Thursday - Sunday).

Camp Barret, the site for this year's Naturist Eastern
Gathering, is shaping up nicely. The management has been ex-
tremely cooperative and the facility (1,000 acre +) is even more
impressive than last fall when I first saw it. 3 new cabins have
been added as well as 2 large all purpose buildings. The dining
hall has also been enlarged and will now seat about 700. They
aim to please! One of the swimming pools is heated but there is
an excellent chance the second will be too. Pocono Picnic Com-
pany, our site for Aug 17 - 20, is also striving to take care of
all our needs. As their summer camp is over the day before, we
can make use of camping areas that were restricted at last year's
Gathering. All the problems we experienced should be rectified -
we certainly don't want to make the same mistakes twice!

Campers: Both sites have ample areas we will set aside
for camping but when reserving, please tell us what you will be
using - "tent", "trailer", "motorhome", etc. Also mention what
group (TSMN, NENA, NCN, etc.) you want to camp with. When we
know there are enough to warrant it, we'll have designated areas
and bathroom facilities for those groups. We've also reserved
ice machines for both events. Please note: There are no water &
electric hook-ups and no dump stations for campers.

Cabin Users: At Camp Barrett, you need a minimum of 6
people to reserve a cabin (8 - 10 preferred). At Pocono Picnic
Company, a minimum of 4 people (6 - 8 preferred) is required to
rent a cabin. If you are a couple and don't mind sharing a ca-
bin, tell us and we will try to house you with couples from your
area and/or group. Singles: Dorms will be set up for single men
and single women. If you are single and part of a SIG (special
interest group) please tell us so we can put you in the right ca-
bin! If you don't, we won't know! Single Snorers: As we
couldn't have "Snoring" and "Non Snoring" cabins, we will rely on
the cabin users to point out the ones that are disturbing the
sleep of the entire cabin. A cabin(s) will be held in reserve
for snorers that are requested by their fellow naturists to move
there. If there is more than one, they can snore each other to
sleep (sorry, couldn't resist that). Bed Linens: Bring your own
sheets, blankets, pillows, and air mattresses.

Group reservations: Group leaders should contact us ASAP
if they want to make a group reservation for a cabin. When
reserving, please make sure that all individuals are listed
(separate checks are best) including their affiliation and
membership numbers. Cabins at Camp Barrett will sell out shortly
so if you have a group (groups take preference), please contact
us immediately.

Is There A Need To Reserve: If you desire cabin space
and/or want to be assured you are on the meal plan, yes. Also,
to qualify for a door prize (The grand prize at the Naturist
Eastern Gathering is a trip for two to Club Orient, a $2,000 +
trip!), you need to be reserved one month prior to the event you
are attending. For the Midsummer Celebration, the grand prize
will be announced soon. For those attendees that can not make
reservations and who will be camping or day-visiting, there is no
problem. We have plenty of room for everyone.

Affiliation: Prices are listed for those affiliated with
recognized naturist/nudist organizations. Prices in () are for
those people who are not. Membership cards will be checked at
registration so please do not forget them! If you reserved at
the lower price and forget to bring your card (or do not have
one), you will have to pay the difference. At the Midsummer
Celebration, The Event subscribers also qualify for the lower
price.

Meal Plan: The meal plan is highly recommended
(vegetarians included!) Please opt for it! And please reserve
ahead. A limited number of meal plans and individual meal tick-
ets will be available during the weekend but we must tell the
camp ahead of time how many we want them to feed. For those who
can't reserve ahead, remember that there will be a snack bar open
at specified times. One last point: The dining hall is off-
limits to anyone not on the meal plan or who has purchased meal
tickets. We expect to have coffee brewing at off- meal hours,
but the privilege is only for meal plan holders.

Childrens Activities: George & Veronica Brozowski, P.O.
Box 436, Monsey, New York 10952, are in charge and would welcome
anyone who would like to help out. You won't have to spend the
entire weekend entertaining the kids, maybe just an hour or two.
Write George & Veronica at the above address.

Exhibitors: As was last year, exhibit space is free.
All you need to bring is a table. If exhibitors feel their space
was profitable, we will gladly accept donations. Any donation
should be made by check, payable to NENA (New England Naturist
Association), a worthy recipient of your generosity.

Topics Of Discussion (Naturist Gathering Only): If you
have anything you feel should be scheduled, please write Peter
Taylor, c/o Tri State Sun Club, P.O. Box 532, Broadway NJ 08808
ASAP. Please mention the days and times that would be convenient
for you.

Singles SIG (Gathering Only): Barbara Khan, a participant
at the '88 Naturist Eastern Gathering, has volunteered to lead
this workshop. There will be meetings all four days, starting
with one immediately after Thursday dinner. Some of Barbara's
suggestions: 1. At sign-in, give those singles who desire it,
some kind of identification that will signify they are single and
desire to meet other singles. 2. We will set aside tables in
the dining hall for singles, enabling them to meet other singles
for socializing. 3. Singles, especially men, should strive to
bring someone of the opposite sex to the gathering. That doesn't
mean a love interest because if that were the case, you wouldn't
be single! Just a friend! A co-worker? Why not? If single men
are complaining about the lack of single women, then shouldn't
they be part of the solution? So, you single men out there,
bring a female friend, a platonic friend! 4. This is not
Barbara's input, but mine: Men and women who participate in na-
turist events without their spouses, are not single! Granted,
they may be contributing to the "problem" but the fact remains,
they are married, not single. This is another issue entirely.
I, personally, have addressed this special interest in the past
but is someone
