Does anyone have information on the ASA (American Sunbathers
Association)? I would be interested in obtaining some further
	info about this organization.

	Thanks,

37.2Info from ASA Nudist Park GuideMOIRA::FAIMANOntology Recapitulates PhilologyWed Mar 30 1988 16:56137
I am not an ASA member myself (perhaps one of our readers who is
an ASA member can provide more accurate information). As I
understand it, the ASA is one of the two big US nudist/naturist
organizations (the Naturist Society being the other--see note 10).
The ASA is almost 60 years old, and is usually associated with
nudist camps, while the Naturist Society is much more recent
and is usually associated with free beaches. (The two work
together and support each other, however, so the difference
is more one of emphasis than of underlying beliefs.)

Here is some random information from a somewhat out-of-date
edition of the ASA Nudist Park Guide:

    =================================================================

			ASA Member Benefits

The American Sunbathing Association represents most organized
nudists in North America. From its humble beginnings, it has
grown into a strong affiliation of some 25,000 nudists who
belong to over 190 nudist parks all over North America.

Being an ASA member brings you many benefits. A few are the
        prestige of belonging to a strong national organization;
protection from legal harassment while on ASA grounds; lower
rates at ASA parks; a free subscription to _The_Bulletin_, the
ASA monthly newspaper; membership in the International Naturist
Federation and the opportunity to attend an annual convention
which brings members together in an atmosphere of congeniality
	and athletic competition.

In addition, the ASA provides aid such as this: this annual
Nudist Park Guide for the traveling nudist; helping clubs with
local advertising and recruiting of new members; supplying clubs
with a standard advertising brochure and lists of prospective
members who have written to the ASA for information; information
and plans for new clubs; and maintaining a mail order division
for speciality items, available only from the ASA.

			What ASA Parks Offer You

In the form of legal protection, ASA parks offer the security
and comfort of practicing a nude lifestyle without fear of
harassment from the law. Member clubs are secluded from the
surrounding cities, providing privacy. And be they large or
small, you will find at all parks a warm, friendly atmosphere.

	[Also sports, facilities playgrounds, ...]

			Types of Nudist Parks

	...

			ASA Regionals

The ASA is divided into several regional associations which are
responsible for the formation and growth of nudist resorts
	within their area. ...

			The Sponsor Program

If you are interested in the nudist way of life, we encourage
you to contact one of the many ASA clubs throughout North
America for an initial visit. Once you have experienced social
nudism, we are sure that you will look forward to becoming a
member of our organization through that club.

However, we realize that for a variety of reasons you may not be
ready to fully participate at this time. For that reason we
offer you an opportunity to become a SPONSOR of nudism through
	our national office.

A Sponsor receives an identification card, a copy of the current
issue of the ASA Nudist Park Guide, and a one-year subscription
to our monthly nudist newspaper, _The_Bulletin_.

Although Sponsor status does not guarantee access to all ASA
parks, it usually serves as an introduction to the club for the
	purpose of trial visits.

			Nudism Today

[discussion of the nudist lifestyle, advantages of membership in
a nudist park, formalities, costs, etc.]

			How to Join

COntact a club near you and arrange for a visit. If you decide
to join that club your dues will include membership in both the
	national and regional organizations. ...

If there is no club within a hundred miles of your home, you may
be eligible to join one of the Regional Associate Clubs. For
more information on this, write to the regional office in your
	area. ...

[I.e., you can't join the ASA directly--you must join through an
ASA club or park. There are many "non-landed" clubs--clubs
which do not own their own park or other facilities. Some of
these are "travel" clubs, and others have an established
relationship with some camp or park. For example, "Sherwood
Forest" is a non-landed ASA club in New Hampshire which
apparently has an arrangement with Cedar Waters (note 12.3),
which is a non-ASA nudist park.]

		--------------------------------

			CODE OF ETHICS

			Principles

We believe in the essential wholesomeness of all human bodies
and of the natural functions and activities which they perform.
We believe in the naturalness of social nudism and we consider
that exposure of the entire human body to sun, light, and air is
beneficial. We believe that we have the right to practice
social nudism, provided that we do not infringe upon the rights
	of others.

			Objects and Purposes

	A. To provide individual nudists and nudist park owners with a
democratic organization through which the aims and feelings
of both may be expressed for their mutual benefit.

	B. To gather and disseminate information which will assist the
general public to understand the nature and principles of
	    social nudism.

	C. To work with legislative, administrative, judicial, and
enforcement officials toward the clarification and
elimination of restrictive laws which unreasonably limit the
	    practice of social nudism.

    By the way...

Some naturist clubs include the ASA membership when you join that
    particular club.

    FYI...

The American Sunbathing Association appears to be in the midst of
a major campaign to get out the word about naturism.

I picked up a new pamphlet called "The Nude Experience...From a
Woman's Perspective" which I guess is intended to introduce
    women to the idea.

There are a bunch of other brochures, including one advertising
a new short video describing the nudist lifestyle.

If anyone wants any of these, I can pick some up the next time
    I go over to Solair.
