28.0. "Why a Naturism Conference?" by MOIRA::FAIMAN (Ontology Recapitulates Philology) Wed Feb 24 1988 19:59

Or, as one person said to me, "What a weird subject for a Notes File".

I had three reasons for starting this conference. Maybe some of you
    can suggest some others.

    1. There aren't all that many of us around, but I already know of
a few more than I used to, from your contributions here. It's
nice to have an opportunity to share experiences, and generally
give and get a little moral support.

    2. Information about clothing-optional beaches, clubs, nudist
camps, local skinny-dipping sites, recreation opportunities,
etc. is scattered all over the place; much of it isn't written
down anywhere. This should be an opportunity to share some of
	that information.

    3. Many (or most?) of the people who read this conference probably
won't be naturists themselves. That's fine. Much of my own
introduction to naturism came from reading rec.nude on the
USENET. I hope that this can be a non-threatening introduction
to the idea of social nudity. Readers don't have to sign up,
subscribe, or do anything else to declare their interest--they
can just open the file and read. Maybe a few will get inspired.

    Comments?

28.1Thank you for this Notesfile!GENRAL::KILGORECOME ON SPRING!Fri Feb 26 1988 02:0722
Let's see now...if you want to see some strange notesfiles take
a look at the list of JUST employee interest notes. There are 194
of them. Ranging from 4 wheeling, babynames, beer, fishing, fireworks,
    woodworking, etc.

I personally think it's great to have this notesfile available to
discuss among us a common interest which is naturism. I know there
are differences of opinion regarding clothes optional vs nudism
and that is fine. We are all entitled to our opinion.

Perhaps if more people read about naturism, it will be easier for
others to accept. I have corresponded with a few readers via VAXmail
and have extended the invite, if they are ever in my area to look
me up and we could possibly get together to go to some hot springs,
hot tubbing or just sunning somewhere. I like to share things I
enjoy. That's why I like having this notesfile available.

Have an open and uninhibited mind, enjoy life as our God made us...
naked or enjoy life however you prefer it. Just live it to the
    fullest!

Please except my thanks also, I just happened on this note and was
wondering if there were other nature enthusiasts in notes besides
      myself, I wasn't gonna ask...

One of the nicest things about this notesfile is the fact that I've
made a few more friends. I can "talk" to people about naturism,
whether it be through this notesfile or through mail.

This notesfile has enabled me to meet some very nice people, like Judy,
Neil and Kathryn (I'll "see" the rest of you at Moonstone in June).
I've also made a few "penpals" with veteran naturists and potential
first-timers. It's nice to be able to discuss this topic with others
who feel just as strongly about it as I do. I think that I'm alot more
open about naturism and myself because of this notesfile.

28.4ODIHAM::PHILPOTT_ICol. Philpott is back in action...Mon Apr 17 1989 08:1227

I've been noting for a long time. I found Notes very early on, and
like many of us in Europe it was a Godsend for getting our job done.
No longer did we have time shifting problems talking to the gurus
in head office, no longer did we need intimate knowledge of the
upper echelons of the company to find the source for an answer to
all our urgent problems. And then there were the "hobby notes"...

I think there is a strong parallel between notes, and say CB radio,
or Ham radio, where the neophyte often listens for a long time before
speaking. In the case of radio the phenomenon is called "Mike-fright".
Many people listen for so long, that by the time they speak they
have become knowledgeable. There are few experiences in life that
allow you to overcome your newness without being seen. If you decide
to start photography and go to the local club to learn you are seen
to be a beginner. If you decide to experience naturism for the first
time by going to a nude beach or club, you may be highly embarrassed
    - perhaps even scared away forever.

Notes as a vehicle allows the reader to dip a toe in the water without
being seen, and so decide whether they want to go further.

Then it provides a global support network; a basis for wide ranging
pen-pal friendships; a source of quick information; or just a place
to relax once in a while.

Hy I'm a beginer to the social naturists area, but have been a
home naturists for years. I am married and have two boys.
I some times go natural in remote areas in late fall or
early spring. the cool air makes me feel more alive.
