210.0. "KAIO problem on Informix 7.1.3 and 7.2 UC2, UC3" by TLAV02::ORAPINL () Fri Mar 14 1997 04:55

    Hello,

My customer uses Informix v 7.1.3 on Digital Unix 3.2g and he got
problem about "KAIO out of resources".

I found only patch to fix this problem for Digital Unix v3.2g and
Informix v 7.2 UC4. Could you pls tell me the location of the patch ?

Another problem is also "KAIO" problem in this customer but in
difference environment. He got error on Digital Unix v4.0b and
    Informix v 7.2 UC3 or v7.2 UC2. Do you have a patch for this problem ?

In these two cases, if you don't have patches, could you pls tell me
how to fix the problem ?

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Orapin

You asked in digital_unix. I put the answer here too

Francoise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Informix kaio problem is fixed in 7.20.UC4 or higher. For your 2 problems
you must upgrade the Informix version

There is no Unix patch necessary for Informix 7.20.UC4 with D Unix 4.0 or
higher, but you need one is you use D Unix 3.2d .... 3.2g

It is there
ftp://atlanta.service.digital.com/public/patches/informix_patches/

Thank you Francoise- you are exactly right. KAIO is only available in
ODS versions 7.20.UC4 and beyond. On Digital UNIX versions between 3.2D
and 3.2G inclusive an OS patch is required; on Digital UNIX versions
from 4.0 and beyond no patch is required. KAIO is not supported by
Informix on versions of Digital UNIX prior to V3.2D.

210.3What about Informix 7.1.3 on DUnix 3.2f ?TLAV01::ORAPINLWed Mar 19 1997 04:1719
    Hello,

Thank you very much for all of your information. Right now, I have to
do a benchmark for this customer and Informix can't provide version
7.2 UC4 for me and he told us to use Informix version 7.1.3 on our
    Digital Unix 3.2f.

Do you think is it okay and stable to use Informix version 7.1.3 on
our Digital UNIX 3.2f ? Because in this customer we have to prove
reliabity and other issue against SUN, HP, and IBM. I'm afraid that
if we still have problem about KAIO or other problem, we can't win
    this project.

Could you pls help to check for me ?

    Thanks and best regards,

    Orapin

7.13 will certainly run on 3.2F, but it isn't the latest version and
it doesn't have VLM capability- ie, if you're benchmarking to win,
competitively, and you need VLM or KAIO, don't agree to this. Why
can't your local office support you with 7.20.UC5, released a few
weeks ago? Also, there was a 7.14 release on some platforms, but
not on Digital UNIX, because of resource constraints in the DEC Lab
at Informix. If your competition is running 7.14, they'll have more
stability (more bugfixes) than you will.

Why can't the local office get you 7.20.UC4 or 7.20.UC5 or 7.22?
