361.0. "No, Aunty Em, you can't let her take him!" by ERLANG::FALLON (Karen Fallon "Moonsta Cattery") Fri Aug 21 1992 17:53

I just realized how I feel when I have to place a kitten/cat while
looking at a picture of my little Dunny.
Think back to the Wizard of Oz and the scene where Ms. Gulch is about
to take away Toto and put him in the basket. Dorothy is crying to
Aunty Em "No you can't take him!" and runs crying into the bedroom.
Preetty close, I'd say, just add: "only when you can rip him from my
     cold dead
arms!" I'd be screaming with tears down my face. In reality, you
have to pretend to be somewhat dignified. It will never be easy.

I usually try to maintain a certain amount of decorum when a cat is
leaving my home forever...at least until the new owners are out of
sight, then a break out in tears and lament that I have chosen the
    wrong new home. Never fails.

    Jo,

I certainly hope you didn't feel that way when we took Lizette home.
;-) Besides you get to see her at shows.

I am gearing up to "lose" my first born on Saturday. My little black
girl will be going to a wonderful home and will get all of the love and
care that she needs, but that heart wrenching feeling that creeps in
when I think about her departure doesn't seem to go away. I already
warned her new mum not to get upset if I get upset. I guess we will
have to open the bubbley and turn it into a celebration of a new
beginning. I will have to remember the joy I experienced when I took
the Bales home and be happy that I can provide the same opportunity for
    someone else...

When I took 8 week old Honey home, the breeder's little boy stood at
the door and cried his little eyes out. Honey was his favorite and I
felt like a real creep... And I cried my little eyes out when Meggie's
    babies went to new homes.

    What a softie....

Well, the time has finally come. Little Moonst's Thunderhead, aka
Dunny, will be going to his new home this Sunday. His new mom, Lori,
has been very excited! She has been looking for a white male oriental
for about 3/4 years and sincerely wants him. She will give him a good
pet home and may show him as an alter. He is definately ready to be
neutered and the poor thing doesn't have a clue as to what is going to
happen. I will miss his tremendous ears and bright blue eyes very
much. We went through a lot together, I remember giving birth to him
(you guys know, ASSISTING!)but it seems about the same! He has
certainly been a joy to know. His poor brother Baby and sister Tippy
will be the only ones left of the litter. I wonder if they will even
realize he's gone. Sometimes in a multi cat household they don't seem
to care as much. When they go to another home they can come right out
    of their shells.
Well, so long Dunny, see you at Christmas!
    Love
    Karen
