This topic will be for keeping each other up to date on our comings and
goings. If you are going away and want to let folks know, you can do
that here. This can be the topic where we keep track of each others
trips, vacations, leaves, transitions, SERPS, whatever.

Ulterior motives abound with me today!! I will be first in this new
    topic. :')

I will be going out on a medical leave in a few weeks. I have to have
my hip replaced again. Some of you may remember back 5 years ago when
I went and had this current hip put in. Well, I hate to say it but I
have worn this thing out already. Out with the old and in with the
    new, as they say.

My last day here will be May 22nd. I will be taking a week of vacation
starting on May 25th. I have lots to do at home to get ready for a
long disability. My house is going to have to be ship shape before I
go in for surgery. My surgery date is June 1st and they expect to have
me in the hospital for 10-14 days.

My medical leave will be anywhere from 4-6 months if all goes well.
The up side of all this is that I will have lots of time to spend with
my kitties while I am recuperating. :')

I will still have my account on MUTTON and will still be checking in
on Feline to make sure that all is going well. I want to keep in touch
with all of you while I am gone. I would go crazy if I couldn't log
into Feline every now and then and chat with all of you.

Oooo, Jo, a 4-6 month recovery?! I really feel for you! I would go
batty even *with* a bunch of furfaces to keep me company. Do you have
lots of good books to keep you occupied? What kind of reading do you
do (assuming you like to read)? I may have some good books to loan
    you.

Anyway, is your current hip stainless steel? I remember seeing a
medical show on a PBS station about bones being replaced with coral
now. The advantage to the coral is that the body fills it in with bone
and dissolves the coral in the process, so there are no problems with
it wearing out or the body rejecting it. I don't remember if they were
doing this with hips or just with other "straight" bones.

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery! Hope to hear from often.

    Best,
    Michelle

The current hip is made out of titanium Michelle. The new one will be
too. And plastic. And bone graft. That is the reason for the long
recovery, I will have lots of grafting done this time too (like last
    time).

Sherry Robinson has already provided me with a great list of books to
read. And I have a few laying around the house that I haven't had a
chance to read yet. If any of you have suggestions for books, send me
    mail! I love to read!!

And I love to do puzzles, so I have a few of those lined up too.

Time is fleeting for me too Jo, (SERP) but I want to wish you
a speedy recovery and enjoy your time off with your kitties.

This doesn't sound like an operation I would want to have done twice
but the alternative isn't good either. Lot's of gritting the teeth
(at least that is what my friend did.)

I will be keeping in touch through Roberta.

    Patient: Jo Ann Cordes Brown

Jo doesn't have a room number yet (she's probably still in surgery
right now) so the woman I spoke to suggested putting the patient
information in the bottom left corner of the envelope. As soon as
I have her room number I'll modify this note.

well, I feel I qualify for this one...although, it wasn't a planned absence.
i went to the hospital in an ambulance approx. 3 weeks ago - my gall bladder
had decided to move some stones around...and one ended up in my bile duct.
i was a wonderful color of orange with green edges - and i was very sick.

I now have a very ugly gash across my tummy - and i can eat green peppers
and onions again!!!!

i will be out for at least another 3 weeks - so hold down the fort
for me while i'm at home!

I'll be sending cards to Jo so she knows i'm thinking about her...take
care all!

I just talked to Ken. Jo is out of surgery (ended at 1:00pm, a little
later than expected). Apparently the old joint was pretty loose when
they took it out. The doctor was surprised at how loose it actually was.
Now we know why she was in so much pain. She is still in recovery and
the doctor says she can move her feet which indicates there is no nerve
damage (per Ken this is always a consideration in this surgery). Ken
and my mom are at the hospital but neither of them have actually been
allowed to see Jo yet. I guess they want to give her some time to
sleep off the anesthetic and to be sure everything is really okay.

Many of us have been in this file for a number of years and have known
Jo for quite a while now.

I'm wondering if we'd like to take up a collection and send her a nice plant
or something from all of the FELINERS? I'd be willing to coordinate it with
no problem at all.

Please send me mail if you'd like to contribute to a plant for her. We can
arrange for me to somehow get the money.

Jan, how long is she expected to be in the hospital?? I was thinking of
sending the plant on friday.

Thanks.

Jo is expected to be in the hospital 10-14 days. This is day 2.

I saw her last night for about 1 hour. She was doing pretty well
considering she had tubing and things connected to her all over the
place. In fact, when I left the nurse was trying to get all that
tubing organized. She had some fluid in her lungs after surgery
so they are monitoring her respiration and keeping her on oxygen
until that clears. She told me it only hurt when she coughed and
unfortunately, because of the fluid, she was doing some coughing.
She may be a little more sore today as the anesthetic and epidural
    clear her system.

She's supposed to be sitting up and dangling her legs over the bed
or actually standing today, depending on the pain level.

I'll probably be over there again tonight so if you have a message
you want delivered, let me know.

38.25Jo update for 6/2/92JULIET::CORDES_JAFour Tigers on My CouchWed Jun 03 1992 04:0349
I saw Jo Ann today and things have changed a bit since yesterday.
I have her permission to give all the "gory" details.

She had a fever of 102 today which was down to 100 by the time I
arrived at 7:00pm. I don't want to gross anyone out here but
she was coughing up blood instead of just the fluid and her blood
pressure was down to 100 over 56. They're concerned about this
change but apparently they feel they can take care of it. She
is on antibiotics.

The pain medication is making her itch so they're adding something
to her IV to control the itching. The self-dosing pain medication
is part of a study. The pain management person has people that
come in and have her show them on this slide rule type of thing
how much pain she is in. I guess the guy today was rather
insensitive and acted like he thought she was a wimp. Worst thing
about this thing is that when she presses the button for a dose
of pain stuff she may get the pain stuff or she may get a placebo.
The machine decides. She also has 2 IV's one in her arm and one
(epidural) in her shoulder. The nurses do not know which of the
2 IV's the pain medication flows through (apparently they're not
supposed to know).

She's still getting oxygen and still has the respiration/oxygen
saturation monitor attached to her finger. With all the machines
and things around the bed it is sometimes hard to hear her as
she is speaking pretty softly and tends to fade at the end of a
sentence.

She actually stood today. She was going to just sit on the bed
and dangle her legs but she decided at the last minute to stand.
Apparently this had something to do with her wanting them to
straighten out the sheets that had bunched up where she had been
laying. She said it did hurt a lot to stand.

I took in some print outs of the good wishes you sent and she
was happy to see them. I promised to bring more stuff when I
go over there again on Thursday. She has a hard time staying
awake long enough to read anything lengthy though. Sometimes
it is hard to tell if she is awake or not because she keeps her
eyes closed a lot. She says she never realized she had such
heavy eyelids.

Well, that's all for today. I'll be calling her tomorrow since
I can't be there in person. If you're still interested in
reports I'll post another update when I have more information.

How about telling the pain study people to take a hike? That
self-dosing of medication for pain is known to work well for people
with chronic pain; it both reduces the amount of medication needed
because people are less anxious that it won't be available later on,
and makes it easily available when the patient really needs it. Why
they have to do this placebo business is beyond me.

38.35Slide this.......:^)MKONCG::TRAINQUEWed Jun 03 1992 14:1418
That's insane a PLACEBO! Are they kidding? I had to have an emergency
C-section 1989 to deliver my daughter. (Amazing how much you use those
muscles and don't realize it) My bestfriend for three days was my
"pump". It was set up so every 6 minutes I could push the button and
give myself my pain medication. Because it was preset if I pushed the
button before 6 minute intervals nothing happened. It was great I
didn't have to worry about the nurses being too busy, or shift change.
The pump would beep when it only had four doses left so that way the
nurses had plenty of time to refill before I ran out.

If they really want to study the pain why don't those people go put
their hand in a blender and see where they would put that on a slide.
It really amazes me sometimes the way "modern" medicine works.

Hope Jo gets back on her feet soon. Pawpats and kitty kisses from my
gang and best wishes from their mom.

Okay, 2nd try. My workstation just died in mid reply.

My dad called a while ago with Jo Ann's new phone number. I and
a few other people had been trying to call her all day and I was
beginning to think the worst when no one could reach her. She
changed beds in her room so her room number now is C303B instead
    of C303A.

    The latest gory details are:

Her fever was 103 most of today. She originally gave the temp
to me in centigrade; I had to have her translate it. They are
removing most of the tubing she had attached to her as it can be
considered a possible source of infection. They left the catheter
and the blood drain for her leg. They stopped the blood recycling
process. She still has fluid in her lungs.

The pain management study is gone. She's stuck waiting for a nurse
to bring pain medication now. Of course if it is between waiting for
a nurse and getting a placebo, I'd wait. She's on something that
starts with a V. She doesn't remember what it is. She's had two
today and was beginning to feel the need for a 3rd while we were on
    the phone.

Both of her IV's failed today. This means the poor little veins just
gave up and collapsed. She does have problems with keeping those
veins going. Apparently she's quite bruised from the attempts to
restart the IV's. They've removed the epidural IV from her back.
I'm not clear on what the status is of the one in her arm.

She is allergic to the paper tape they used to tape everything to her.
We knew she had a problem with the normal tape they use but I don't
recall her having a problem with the paper tape before. She now has
patches of rash everywhere the tape was.

And the good news is...while I was talking to her on the phone she was
sitting in a chair across from the bed instead of laying in bed. This
is good. It means they're getting her up and moving her around and
she is able to handle it. When she changed beds she opted for the
window side of the room so she has a small view now. The window side
didn't seem as cramped as the side she was on originally.

I won't be seeing her tonight as I have a meeting after work. I'll
take her some more of your well-wishes and maybe a mail message or
note or two tomorrow. She really seemed to reading them yesterday.

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers.

A couple of tiny things that might help:

I'm allergic to bandaids too, and my doctor once suggested something
that helps. You can get Aloe Vera gel pretty cheaply in a drugstore,
like a couple of dollars a bottle. Look for the mostly pure stuff (like
95% to 99%), as opposed to Beautiful Cosmetic Product Lotion with a dab
of Aloe Vera added. And apply it to the red areas a few times a day.
It seems to work best when you start early with it.

Vitamin C is pretty good at reducing bruising and speeding healing
after surgery. I'd be snarfing up several grams a day if I were Jo.
My understanding is that you can't overdose on it, that the body
excretes any excess. That means, (sorry delicate minded folks) that
if she does overdose, there might be some slight diarrhea. I've found
that when I've had the flu, however, I can take ten or more
grams a day for days before that starts to happen at all.

Can't they give her pain medication that's under her control? Without

re Karen - yes, it is possible to overdose on Vit C, it
must be a fat soluable (sp?) as opposed to water. My brother
in law ate a whole bag of those vit C `candies' one time,
and had to be brought to the hospital with uncontrollable
muscle spasms! But, I suspect Jo has more sense than he
does, and wouldn't go eating a whole BAG of the things.... :)

My understanding is that ascorbic acid (VIT C) is water soluable.
Now it might be possible to OD on it if you take a huge amount
at one time. Your body wouldn't be able to excreet it fast
enough, but its not like Vitamin D or A which is fat soluable
and builds up in the tissues over time.

38.42Another Jo UpdateJULIET::CORDES_JAFour Tigers on My CouchFri Jun 05 1992 18:4153
I went to see Jo Ann last night. I snuck in there at 9pm and stayed
till 11pm. A friend had decided I needed some attitude adjustment
before going so he took me out to Bennigan's. It was great just to
be able to laugh again, and, did he ever make me laugh!

Anyway, when I arrived at Jo Ann's she was being attended by her
male nurse, Andre. Andre is Australian and his accent is a joy to
listen to. He's really funny too. Those two were bantering back
    and forth all night.

Jo Ann looks soooo much better. She sounds better too. It was
such a relief to catch a glimpse of the "normal" Jo. All her IVs
and machines are gone. She still has bruises and needle marks all
over her arms from where they mistook her for a pin cushion trying
to restart her IVs. She uses a warm compress on her left arm to
    try and soothe it.

She's getting up and hopping to the bathroom herself now, with a
walker to steady her. She's not allowed to put weight on her leg for
quite a while yet. They're talking like she is doing so well that
they'll probably send her home the beginning of next week. I believe
she said she still has a fever though so we'll see what happens.

She told me a story about one of the first nights she was in the
hospital. Apparently her fever was really bad that night (103) and
she was moaning and groaning and vocalizing in her sleep. Her
roommate (Marilyn) was very concerned for her and call the nurse to
check on her. The next day a very nice, kind looking gentleman came
into Jo Ann's room and called her by name and introduced himself as the
hospital chaplain. Jo Ann said she freaked out thinking she must be
much sicker than she thought if the hospital had sent the chaplain
to see her. She was thinking it must be last rites time or something.
She says the chaplain was very kind. He sat with her and stroked her
arm and comforted her, etc. It wasn't until much later that she
discovered her roommate had asked the chaplain to come.

To top it all off, her 2nd roommate (Hariet) turned out to be one card
short of a full deck and is now recovering nicely in another ward.
When they cleaned out this womans closet after her move they found that
she had brought a sequined evening gown and some other equally
inappropriate clothing as well as several pairs of shows with matching
    handbags for her hospital stay.

I'll be seeing her again tonight. I'm taking her some things to put
in her hair. She's not able to wash it yet and she's fustrated with
it. I tried to find some dry shampoo or something we could use but
ended up with some bobby pins and a hair clip thing that works sort of
like a banana clip but lays flatter on the hair that the banana clip
so that it won't be uncomfortable for her.

I'll let you all know when she is released from the hospital.

Well, I guess it is about time for me to get in here and let you
all know that they sent Jo Ann home from the hospital on Sunday
(6/7). Seemed awfully early to me considering they told her she
would be in for 10-14 days. It was on the 7th day they released
    her.

I'm not sure how she's doing at home. I haven't been there
yet and the one time I called her, I woke her up. I'm going to
take a fellow FELINER with me tonight (if she's up to it) and
we'll check out the situation. Also, I want to see how nurse
Ken (hubby) is doing. They sent Jo Ann home with all kinds of
"make your life easier" contraptions like a walker, two kinds of
reach and hook gadgets and a thing that looks like one of those
joke invisible dog walking things that is meant to help her lift
and move her left leg when she needs to get up. Still, Ken is
going to have his work cut out for him carrying for her and
taking care of the cat family.

Jan, I spoke with her twice yesterday. Your mum was there. Seems that
she is having a hard time keeping track of which cats go where and the
wrong cats are ending up behind wrong door! :'D She sounds fantastic,
but I think that this may be an awfully aggressive recovery schedule
considering the extent of the surgery. Believe it or not she is actually
thinking about going to the show this weekend (in a wheelchair or using a
walker) and attending the awards banquet Saturday night! I am planning to
see her this weekend either at the show or at home if she decides its too
much for her. IMHO I think she should bag the show and not push it...

I'm with you Marlene. I think going to the show this weekend is a
bit too ambitious but you know how stubborn Jo Ann can be when she
    sets her mind to something.

I talked to her on the phone this afternoon and she sounds great.
She was a bit wired though 'cause they'd just had an earthquake there.
My sister Jaci and I will be rotating in as home nurses over the next
    couple of weeks. I've got 6/19, 6/25 and 6/26. I don't have much
better luck keeping those kitties straight than my mom does though.

Although I'm not one of the most prolific writers in here, I figured I'd check
out before going on vacation. Today's my last day at work, and I won't be back
in the office til July 6. We're driving to Orlando, Florida this Monday, and
will be at an insulator convention and then Disney World, before coming back.

We're having our local "Critter Care" person come every other day to do the
food and water bit, etc. The air conditioner will be set so that we don't
waste electricity but don't let the house get too hot for the kids.

I've also invited a good (local) friend to stay over while we're gone for
whenever works for her, to keep half an eye on things, enjoy the luxurious
accomodations :-) and play with the cats (she loves cats but doesn't have any
due to her living circumstances...hopefully they'll warm up to her fast and not
get too lonely!

Of course, I'm already starting to miss them and I'm not even gone yet...we'll
be gone for the time period where last year we adopted Hemi, and then the other
two tiger babies 2 weeks later at the Pat Brody shelter get-together. Reading
Pat Murphy's account of her visit and playing with the kittens (and her
special reference to tiger babies) brought it all back!

See y'all when I get back...

I am hanging in there. I injured my wrist last week so now I have to
wear a blasted wrist brace. Makes walking on the crutches or with the

Pain level is definitely descreasing now, but I am still non-weight

they had to do. I am bored a lot of the time.

I spend my time reading, watching TV, and playing with cats and
kittens. And trying not to eat. :') With so little activity I know
that I will gain weight if I am not careful.

I miss the file. Wish I could afford to log in more often. But, I
have to save my money so I can afford a housekeeper. My house is a

I am back at work....have been since the 29th. It isn't easy. I am really
tired and just sore from the bending required to sit, etc. but I am working
a full day and getting stronger daily. I will be starting my Nordic Track
in another week - probably back down to 5 minutes at a time - but it will
help me rebuild stamina and lose some of the weight I feel like I gained.
My clothes don't show it, but I feel it - strange, I know.

I think the West Coast Feliners should be able to form a housecleaning
crew to sweep down to Morgan Hill and clean Jo and Ken's house....what
about it, gang, any takers? I'm up for mopping, vacuuming...anything that
doesn't require bending or stretching too much. The kittens are worth the
work - they are adorable and love to be cuddled. We could bring our own
munchies and beverages - sorta a picnic...

Jo, are you up for such an invasion???

ah, but the lure of cute kittens to be cuddled and played with...that
can make a feliner go great distances. Besides, its not like we've
never seen or smelled the "rewards" of living around cats...after all,
I live with the fur-ball hacking champion of the world...and my late

it was enough like the "real thing" that I'm not particularly shocked
by what happens when boy kitties and girl kitties are amorous...and

I've been thinking about getting together a list of addresses and/or
phone numbers for FELINErs, since probably none of us know from day to
day how much longer we'll be around. I know we're all a bit leery
of posting home addresses in a public notes file, so I thought I'd ask
people who are interested to get theirs to me offline, and I'll send out the
list to everyone in a couple of months when hopefully a little dust has
    settled.

It's a bit cumbersome getting your addresses to me, since I don't know
how long I'll be here myself. For the time being, send them to me at
OXNARD::KOLLING, and I assume I'll have time to get in and let people
know if I'm vanishing. Or call me at DTN 543-6814 to check (that
number is unreliable for the next few days since we're moving offices.)

You might enclose the names of your cats or a short personal note to
identify yourself to others, plans for future work, moves, etc.

Use a Subject line of Feliner address. Thanks. If you know someone

I suppose this is as good a time as any -- I believe I'll be
leaving when IDC shoulders get tapped (probably next week). After nine
years with Digital, it comes as a bit of a shock. Wrong place at the
    wrong time syndrome.

You may all remember my angry notes last summer when I was confronted
with the "fifteen ferals of Nubble Light" -- the noter who'd never had
a cat and ended up trapping a bunch of ferals and adopting three.
...and then being found by a stray last October.

I quickly learned to love cats. Two of the Maine-iac ferals are still
at large -- the grandmother-mother and one of her first daughters. The
rest of the gang all got homes. (I still remind my three that they
could be living in a stonewall, and they'd better fix their attitude or
else. They just laugh at me.)

I've learned a lot about cats/kittens in this file -- I'll miss it and
your friendship -- this notesfile is unique irreplaceable.

Regarding employment, I'm not sure at this point if I'll seek permanent
tech writing employment, or if I'll try freelancing with contract
agencies. Regarding other stuff, I know my golf handicap is going to drop
rapidly, as I plan to be on the golf course daily.

Jo-Ann, you will be missed. For anyone who hasn't seen pictures of
Jo-Ann's cats, they are a sight to see! The Maine-iacs are three of
the most beautiful cats I have ever seen. If only I could find ferals
like that!! HHP contenders who would steal the show, that's for sure!

    Good luck to you.

So, Roberta, what would it cost me to have you show my monkeys?
Silverado (blue-eyed wonder) would probably enjoy it.

    Jo-Ann
38.79JUPITR::KAGNOMom to the Wrecking CrewThu Aug 20 1992 14:2323
If I showed Silverado for you, you would never get her back!! What a
    beauty she is!

Jo-Ann, I really encourage you to enter her in an upcoming show. I
prefer showing HHPs (not from experience, by watching the class) in CFA
versus CFF. This is because CFA doesn't earn titles on the cats in
HHP class. It is purely a fun experience. CFF classifies them as
novice, companian, grand companion, master grand companion, where each
cat earns points toward each title until they reach master. Sort of
takes the fun out of it, and brings in the politics.

CFA just lumps them all together with no titles... they all compete
against each other equally and the judges call back their top 10 after
the preliminary judging is complete. Last year I wanted to bring Taja
out, but he is so darn shy and doesn't really enjoy being handled.
But, one day, I would love to have a nice HHP to show purely for the
    fun of it.

Try it!! The Boxboro show, CFA sponsored, is right around the corner!!
    (November maybe?)

Some of the people at our site were laid off yesterday. They had
access to their computer accounts removed almost immediately, and were
left with no way to send goodbye email or to retrieve any (let me say
that again -- any) personal files from the systems, including their
resumes, etc. From discussion with people in other areas of the
company, it appears that some groups do this but also give the laid off
employee a "guest" account to send email from for the last week of
their employment; they may not allow any access to personal files, or
they may allow an administrator to pull off a copy of a specifically
requested file after some management person has reviewed the file.

So, let me repeat what Nancy DC said last week: If you have personal
files that you want to keep, the time to make copies of them and take
them home is now. If you have personal files that you don't want
someone to read, the time to delete them is now.

Although this situation of removing access to accounts appears to
violate the company policy for transition, we got nowhere locally in
trying to do anything about it.

On a personal note, here's my home phone (415)325-6407 for people to
tuck away for future reference, just in case.

38.81Some groups allow accessJULIET::CORDES_JAFour Tigers on My CouchTue Aug 25 1992 15:299
The policy in our IM&T group here is to allow access only to the
ALL-IN-1 account until the last day the person is actually in the
office. I know in a couple of cases some people jumped the gun
but it was corrected very quickly. I also know of cases where, with
a manager's approval access to accounts other than ALL-IN-1 was
    allowed.

38.82OXNARD::KOLLINGKaren/Sweetie/Holly/Little Bit Ca.Tue Aug 25 1992 15:525
We were told that our management had no freedom to allow access; that
there was even someone from "back East" logged onto our systems and
checking to be sure that accounts were disabled (on the same day people
    were first notified.)

Well, things have straightened up a little. I didn't mean to send this
note down a rathole. The laid off people can now have guest accounts
for sending email, and can have selected files from their old accounts
copied off for them. Still, this is not the image I'd had of a week's
"normal" access to one's files. Let's hope we all have long happy
employed lives with Digital and we never have to worry about this....

38.85JULIET::CORDES_JAFour Tigers on My CouchTue Aug 25 1992 22:165
It is VMS mail too. The ALL-IN-1 accounts in Western States IM&T are
not captive accounts. Account owners should be able to access VMS at
the $ level of their ALL-IN-1 accounts.

I would like to say Goodbye and Good Luck to my friends in this
notes file. I have been made redundant and 20 November will be my
last day at Digital. This is not a personal tragedy for me since
I was a willing volunteer. (Volunteered to be considered, that is)
In fact, it is probably the best thing that could have happened for
    	me.

I have always enjoyed reading FELINE and I have learned a great
deal from all the folks here. It has been a constant source of
laughter, tears and support. Thank you one and all.

There is very little that I will truly miss about Digital. I will
miss some of the people and the network but the politics and general
BS I gladly leave behind. It is time to find another set of politics
and general BS to play in.

For all of those who will remain at Digital, I wish enthusiasm,
motivation, energy and good fortune. I think you will need it.

I'm going to put a section of how to send email between Dec and
outside Dec in the offline newsletter, but here's a tidbit that I ran
across: you may want to save a list of your Dec friends' email addresses,
because you can send mail to them from outside Unix systems as
    follows:

        person@host.enet.dec.com

For example, my address is OXNARD::KOLLING, so from an outside Unix
    system it would be kolling@oxnard.enet.dec.com

If you wind up on a different type of outside system, your system
administrator should be able to tell you how to send to Deccies if
you show him or her this message, since it will tell them what the
    "Internet" address looks like.

To send mail in the other direction, from Dec to outside,
if you know an outside person's Internet address,
for example Nancy DC's, which is 76520.55@CompuServe.COM, you can send
mail to them via simple VMS mail by sending it thru a DEC host that
knows how to forward out to the Internet:

        DECPA::"76520.55@CompuServe.COM"

Best of luck to you - and to me. I, too, have been TFSOed. I will miss reading
all the stories, especially the Tales of Beth and Blue.

Thanks to all of you who have offered advice, consolation, and laughs. I have
not been a very active notesfile member, but reading here was important to me
and I do know some of you personally.

Not to worry - this is my chance to get in to the field I where my heart is.

I will look forward to the newsletter VERY much.

38.144some shelters may be able to help w/foodAIMHI::PMURPHYTue Dec 15 1992 12:2121
re. giving up pets because of lost jobs

I understand some (maybe not all) shelters may be able to help people
by supplying food so that folks don't have to turn in their pets to
the already overcrowded shelters. I know food isn't the only expense
to worry about; there's annual and emergency vet bills and for indoor
cats bags of litter. I live in NH and remember reading about this in
one of the local papers (don't remember which one).

From reading the "Animal Sense" newspapers each month there are not
only dogs and cats being in need of homes, but also horses, rabbits,
chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, etc. are being turned in to shelters due
to poor economy and job losses.

Please check with your local shelters to see if they can help if or
    when the time arises.

For FELINE, if you'd be so kind:

I'm happy to announce that I'll be gainfully employed as of Monday;
I'll be working as a contractor at a local software company, and
another former FELINEr, Dian Wilde, who is doing very well as a
contractor herself, is giving me helpful advice about life as a
"hired gun."

I'm keeping my rental system email address, DECPA::"kolling@btr.com"
since contracts come and go. Dian doesn't currently have an email
address.

The next quarterly offline newsletter will ship in a couple of weeks,
so send any articles for it to me at Karen Kolling, 1032 Forest Avenue,
Palo Alto, CA 94301. (If you email them, I have to type them up.) I
have cover pictures for this issue, but after that the cupboard is bare.

Sweetie, Holly, and Little Bit are fine and dandy as well.

Below is a fun thing I ran across on the Internet group rec.pets.cats:

This statement reminds of a fun thread that was happening
recently in rec.pets.dogs about giving breed names to thier
mixed breed dogs - for example, person A would ask person
B what kind of dog B's dog (a Heinz 57 special straight from
the Humame Society) was, and B would reply something like
"Michigan Water Labrador Spaniel", and person A would nod
knowingly and say, "Oh yes, my friend had one of those once"
So, any of you cat-lovers have one-of-a-kind breeds?

    And folks answered:

KC is a Tufted Milk-Lipped American Pillowcat.
Oreo is a Shorthaired Dalmation Teddybear.
Spook and Orson (brothers) are Smoky Marbled Shorthairs.
Vatch is a lilac-point RatCat (he really does look just
like a white lab rat, only a bit larger.)
    Neek is a Multi-Colored North American Monster-Devil.

her 6 month old patched silver tabby, Jasmine. She was a sweetheart.
She just sat him lap and purred for about half hour. Jasmine's brother
Raja was stunning. He is a red van patten with folded ears. I imagine
he will do quite well in the show circuit.

    re: .188 and vet school

    Hi Denise,

I will be going to Ohio State. I was lucky enough to have a choice of
several schools, and I selected Ohio State for a variety of reasons -
two of the vets I work part-time for went there and I am very impressed
with them, it's fairly cheap for me, and I liked them when I
    interviewed there.

It will take 4 years full-time to get my DVM (just saying DVM makes me
excited!). I will use up my meager savings and then live on student
loans. I just sold my house.

The costs at Ohio State are about $6500 tuition per year (as least for last
year - they will probably go up over the 4 years). I am paying Ohio
resident tuition even though I am from New Jersey, because New Jersey
subsidizes 4 seats. I really liked Tufts, but they are VERY expensive
(tuition alone over $25000 per year, plus higher living costs than
Ohio). I just couldn't afford Tufts.

If you are thinking about this, send me mail or give me a call - I will
be happy to share my experiences and any brochures/information on
getting in with you. It's been a lot of work, but I couldn't be
happier. I am working at an animal hospital part-time, and it's fun,
exciting and fulfilling. The schools I applied to all seem to be very
accepting of older (ahem, "mature") students.

    Excited,
Sue B. + Smokey, Spike, Trouble & Peanut

Sue, you are living my dream too. Bravo to you for taking the plunge!
I have looked into vet school too, and found many schools have programs
for "mature" students as you put it. I found that I am more likely to
get accepted at a mature age then I would have been years ago.

First step for me is completing my undergraduate degree though. It
will be a few years before I can get to the point you are at. Plus,
being married kind of complicates things. Can't just pick up and move
to another state. I hope to someday get accepted to UC Davis. That
wouldn't be too drastic of a change for my husband, and he wouldn't
have to look for a new career in another state.

Congratulations to you and good luck!

Wanted to let everyone know that Tai is still doing pretty well with

another ultrasound and although things are not any better, they are no
worse and that is what they were afraid of. But it sure makes it
difficult to take a weekend off. We finally found a Vet Assistant who

    re. .192, etc.

Thanks for the well wishes all.

As for the blood, etc. I found it was something I just got used to.
Actually, the hardest thing for me is dealing with patients I know are
in a lot of pain, even when there is little or no blood. For example,
we had a "hit by car" stray cat in last fall. The cat had been hit in
the head, it was severely concussed, and his jaw was broken in many
places. When I was holding the cat while the Dr. examined him and
pryed open his mouth, I got light-headed just empathizing with how much
pain the cat was in. Happy ending, we found the cat's owner, wired up
the jaw, and he was fine. And I am getting better at this part.

BTW, when I was 18 and went to observe at a vet, I saw a dog getting
his tail bobbed, and when I saw blood drip on the floor, I passed out
cold. It was very embarrassing, but it's never happened again, so I do
think you get used to it.

My leaving is by my own choice. Someday I may be back at Digital. I
think it is a good company, and I have enjoyed working here very much.

Part of my reason for leaving is that I am continuing to have problems
with my hip. I am not completely recovered from my surgery, but I am
back to work 40 hours a week. I can't tell you how hard it is to make
it through the days when you are uncomfortable and in pain.
Concentrating is very difficult. Leaving this job will allow me to
pursue more physical therapy options, and to work towards getting my
health back. Life has been hectic with me trying to put in 40 hours a
week, plus get to Fremont for physical therapy by 4:00 three days a
week, and now the doctor wants to send me to a pain clinic and a rehab
clinic too! I just didn't know how I would fit it in.

The other reason for leaving is that I am hoping to pursue my interest
in animals. There is a chance that I may go to work for my vet. This
is something that has always appealed to me, and it has it's obvious
advantages to someone who breeds cats and has a vet bill that looks
    like the national debt. :')

If it wasn't for this notesfile, I might never have met some of the best
friends I have in the world. I have struggled with the decision to
leave for weeks. The hardest thing to give up is Feline, and the
friends that I will miss so much.

Goodby all. I have been TFSO'd, so my last day is Friday, October 1.
The worst part is I was just starting to get caught up in the notes
from not being able to read them for almost two years. I want to thank
all the noters for the very helpful information I have gotten from this
file, and for the friendships that have come out of it. I'm sorry to
have to leave Felines, but not so sorry to leave Digital. It will give
me more time to spend with my 2 1/2 year old daughter, and I'm sure the
cats (Velcro, Becky, and Ferlie) will love having attention all day
    long.

You've had a rough year, and I wish you the best of luck in your job
search (Hopefully it will be a new begining of good luck).

now, I have to get something off my chest.

When I was an undergrad at Bentley (hard to beleive but yes, I was an
accounting major), I recall learning in my "Human Relations in the
Organization" and "Intro to Mgt" classes that if you have to cut your
workforce, you get it done by Halloween or you wait until after the
New Year; you don't spoil people's holidays. To do otherwise is not
just mean spirited but unprofessional. I'm starting to wonder if I
was the only one that was taught these values, or just the only one
that took them to heart (or if maybe our Leaders need to go back to
school and pay attention to that little tidbit).

You've had a tough year and I'm hoping that 1994 will be much kinder to
you and your family. The loss of your feline companions must have been
devastating and hopefully the new year will find other furry animals to

I have been receiving quite a bit of mail lately, wondering where I

being away so long. We had a very pressing project that was to be put

38.262Hello From Carol Weston!!!!AKOCOA::STGEORGETue Feb 15 1994 09:2939
    HELLO!

To all of the Old Feliners that "Might" be left. I see Jan Brown is
here, this is Carol Weston (DECy of '76 - 87' and a previous Temp from
    '88 - 91').

I'm back temping for a while.

Been reading as much of the FELINERS as I can.

Jan, you adopted from me, I believe Stripe! I have a picture still
that you sent us. Do you have that large room for all your cats? I'm
    trying to place you.

Hi! Sandy........we spoke not to long ago. How is your crew?

To update those of you who knew us when:

We have two cats left indoors. Both Male Dot, who's Black with a White
dot on his chest and a new comer of the last 4 months, Smuckey. He is
a Black and White TUXEDO. He'll be a year old next month, he's the
youngest I've ever had and kept.

We lost our main girl, Scruffy last November, miss her still. I
recounted my list of cats and kittens we took care of, placed, and
buried and it came to 62. We have one female outside and I think she's
prego. Going to try and place her at the Lancaster Humane Society this
weekend, just going to drive her over and beg them to take her with our
donations and food and towels I've been saving. We do get a visitor, a
male, big! he rubs all over my legs outside to eat and crys, he's the
Moris The Cat color, I don't see him all the time, I think he must
belong to someone, he's so friendly.

    Well, Hello to everyone.............

Hi Carol, I am still here but just barely. Looks like next
week will be my last, TFSO finally got me.

We did indeed adopt Stripe from you and he is the most handsome
tuexedo cat -- still not very friendly except when I'm feeding
him in the morning. But we love him as he is, he gets along
fine with all the other cats and the dogs and has his moments
of affection for us. I guess he had been feral long enough
that may never become comfortable with humans; even though we
fed and loved him for several years he still won't come near
us in the house unless I'm holding out food. Downstairs in
their special room he is much better, I guess he feels safe
there.

Nice to hear from you, I'll give Stripe a hug for you.

Nice to hear from you too, Jan. I'm sorry your TSFO, we, Steve & I,
keep our fingers crossed for him. He's in his 28th consecutive year
with DEC, and has 2 more besides that (left in the early 60's and came
    back). He started in '63.

Too bad Stripe won't and didn't get warm. I really thought he would.
But I'm glad he has a wonderful home like yours.

I'm so out-of-touch with the FELINERS. I just finish this note,
reading it all (not busy -sssshhh!) and seeing everyone who has left.
I have a story for the Meow Power paper and will be sending it in. I
read it, but haven't made the time to address it, no excuses.

I've been looking for a permanent job again, I'm unemployed (as a temp,
your not considered employed) again for the 2nd time since 1987 when I
left DEC. I worked Dec. '76 through March '87 (left on my own) came
back and temped Jan.'88 - June'91 (unemployed and had been looking
since '90 for a permanent job till Sept. '92). It's rough out there.

I wish you all the best and luck.......I've taken time off, mentally
from looking for a permanet job for the past few months. It gets
tiring. I took a Medical Course last Fall and I'm studing again, hope
to change my course in life now.

    Hope we talk again.

She's back for a while contracting here at ZKO.
She doesn't have much time to get in here but she
promises to get in as soon as she can.

All the furfaces and she are doing fine. Beth is
still a little angel of course and Blue is still
spraying and spending time in his cage.

And I'll let her tell the rest. =)

38.274Just when you thought it was safe to go back into Feline....DSSDEV::DSSDEV::TAMIRThu Mar 10 1994 16:1242
Hi everyone! Yup, I'm (temporarily) back doing some contract stuff. I won't be
the avid noter I was ages ago, but I wanted to say hi to all you old Feliners
and bring you up to date with the mob...

Honey is 13 now and is showing his age a bit. His kidneys aren't what they used
to be, but generally, he's doing well. He's a seal point Himmy.

Chauncey is the same...still wants Julie dead...He's a cream point Himmy.

Julie still wets on my bed, but now only when Chauncey terrorizes her! She's a
red tabby.

Robin is....well, Robin is Robin. She's quite the chub and still very shy.
Robin is an ex-feral rescue.

Biff has gone to a new home thru the Pat Brody Shelter. I don't know how
he's doing, but I'm sure he's got his new people well trained!

Mikey has become quite affectionate (to me) since Biffy has been gone. He
lets me kiss him and pet him, but if I try to pick him up, he...ah, how you
say....expresses his anal glands all over me. Once feral, always slightly
feral...He's a full brother to Robin and Biff.

Beth is wonderful!!! She's 3 now, but still acts like the tiny baby kitten
you remember. She's very playful still and she absolutely loves her Mommy!!
She says "Momma" and "Mouse" and she has a special sound for "I want OUT"!!
She still amazes me when I see how well she gets along (for those who don't know
Beth, she's totally blind and has been since she was a baby). She's a tiny
little tortie with no eyes.

Blue is holding his own (has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). He just had his
yearly checkup at Tufts and his heart has enlarged slightly since last year.
He also still sprays everything he gets near, so he's confined alot. He'll
be seeing the behaviorist at Tufts in a couple months to see if he can be
helped. But, his other injuries are completely healed (for those who don't
know, I found Blue run over by a car 18 months ago and found out about his
bad heart when he was being treated for his injuries. Blue is a blue point
Himmy).

So hi to all and I hope to be able to "sign in" from time to time!!

Mary and the gang of 7...

OK, here's a cute Beth story!! Beth is in her second kittenhood as she is
rediscovering her old sleeping places and favourite toys from years gone by.
When I first found her, I put a small blanket in a shoe box for her to sleep
in. She was so tiny she barely filled one corner of it!
This morning, I found her asleep in the same shoe box with her very favourite
mousie toy (he has no fur left on him) clutched between her paws. She
looked so content and peaceful....

It's good to be back and to hear from all of you again!!

This is my last week at DEC, since I've been chosen for TFSO. I would
like to say goodbye and thanks to all of you in Feline.

I thought I would have time to do one more JJ & Sons update, but The Day
has come and I'm still running around trying to clean things up before I
leave. I'm not sure when they are going to "pull the plug" on my account,
so I will say good bye now. If I can get in a few (?? :-) last words
    before I leave for good.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm ecstatic over leaving, I'm not
too disappointed, either. I'm ready for a change. I feel like I'm on the
brink of a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to exciting
    possibilities ahead.

The hardest part is parting with the friends I've made in almost 19 years
at DEC. The Feliners from whom I've learned so much and with whom I've
shared the ups and downs of living with and being owned by cats.
I'll miss all the kitty stories, questions, and even the griping. :-)

Best of luck to you all!

Well, the word has come down that I am at risk. I sort of figured I
was, having nothing to do since the last project was completed. I'm
sort of having mixed emotions right now. I'm relieved to know, but I'm
also partly afraid, and partly excited to get on to new things.

I won't be told officially until next week, but I figure I'm outta here
in any case. I'll miss this notes file the most of anything in this
company. I used to love to come to work, but I'm at the point where I
have an internal struggle to get out of bed every morning. So, I guess
    it's time for a change.

I'll write again when I'm told 'officially'. I'll be turning my badge

really expected to come in during that last week, and I'm hoping that I
won't have to. I'll turn my equipment in this week, so I don't have to
    worry about that.

Well, I thought I was history, but I managed to find a way back in
to FELINE for one last sprint to the end.

My company, EA Systems Inc. of Alameda, CA is being sold by Digital
and the deal appears to be almost consummated. A week or so ago we
were stripped of our access to most nodes, but I've been able to
patch together a path to node MISERY. Working for a computer company
hasn't been a complete waste of time after all.

I'm going to spend whatever time I have left before the plug is pulled
tying up loose ends. Gosh, Steffi's gone, and now Yonee!! What's the

    Karen and FELINERs:

Since I was never a 100% employee of Uncle Digital (80.1% slave only),
I was never granted a DTN or badge number or any of that other stuff.

But EA Systems, being a modern-age computer software company, had the
incredible foresight to install phones and set up a mailing address
with the postal service. Here is my vital information in that regard:

Beautifully worded, Nat. I circulated your note around the office
and the consensus is that you must be a bit of a poet, since the
wording is so flowing. I take it that "Elenn sila lumen omentilmo"
means "Might the stars shine upon your way!"?

Since it sounds so poetic and comes straight to the point, I've
taken the liberty of arranging some of the sentiments of your note
into a short stanza (with a couple of minor adjustments). I hope you
    don't mind.

Goodbye to all that go, all the best

has been a long time. Thought I'd pop in see what was going on. What a
    trip...

I started to read old notes about the Bales, nothing like a good cry on
    a sunny San Francisco afternoon...

I saw Steffi at the cat show yesterday. Lizette was beautiful. 6
years, 4 months and she just gets better. She took 2nd best premier
in an AB ring. What a granddame!!! Jo is the same as ever...

Callie and Kisa are fine. I'm getting that "Exotic" urge again......

    Marlene,

So good to hear from you again in the file. It was great seeing you
the other day too. I'll be in the SZO office pretty regularly on
Wednesdays with the exception of a week or two when I'm on vacation.

Didn't make it to the cat show. Wanted to go. It seems to be the
only contact I have with Jo these days since there aren't any family
events between the end of May and August.

    Visit again soon, please.

Just a quick note to let you all know (after holding my breathe all
morning yesterday), I'm still here too ! Our group didn't get "hit"
until yesterday, so it was touch 'n' go for a while but I'm ok. My
roommate, Virginia Chamberlain, got tapped yesterday tho', but
she's ok with it so it wasn't so bad. As she said, if it was a
choice of losing this job or losing another pet (after losing
2 and coming close with 2 others this year), she'll take losing
	the job !

Best of luck to all who are leaving. Sandy, I'll be waiting for
your phone call after vacation for that lunch !!!!!!!!!

I will be on vacation (in the DC area) from 6/29 through 7/5.

Hopefully either Deb or Holly will be here to handle those silly
moderator-type details (truth be told, there hasn't been that
much moderating to be done lately as the group has gotten smaller).

Meanwhile, I'll be having a blast enduring that sweltering DC

Well, after much soul searching and job-hunting, I today accepted a
position at Andersen Consulting. I will be doing training and course
development in a variety of their product lines. It's my dream job --
working and living in the heart of Chicago. My last day with Digital
    will be July 15.

It's been an interesting 8 years, here at Digital. The company that
hired me no longer exists. We, as employees, have become simple
commodities. It's been "time to move on" for about three years, but I
only acted on those feelings about 6 weeks ago.

I wish peace and good fortune to all of you, and to your kitties, too!

compelled to say goodbye. I have accepted a position with Ernst &

    day with Digital is 8/5/94.

I only got my first furface last November (another in January). I can't
tell you how much I have enjoyed reading your notes. I learned so
much about what cats are all about. I could tell that feline noters
    really care.

I particularlly enjoyed Len's descriptions of cat hi-jinx, the JJ saga,
and various others stories obout successes and setbacks with their kitties.
I guess I will have to get access to internet, so I can keep up with
    kitty issues.

38.389News About Steffi RussellTURRIS::EASI::GEENENIllud cape et ei fibulam adfige!Tue Sep 06 1994 11:2126
My wife and I spent a wonderful Labor Day weekend with Steffi Russell
and her husband Bob Pencovic at their home in Los Gatos, CA. Steffi
is still looking for employment, but that will be put on hold when she
and Bob go off for a month to Australia and New Zealand later this
    month.

We got to see their little ones again -- Misty, Marnie, Devin, Lizette
-- and the newest member of their menagerie, Ellery Queen, a classic
brown tabby Scottish Fold. What a sweet boy!!

Steffi wanted me to say hello to everyone here in FELINE and to post
an email address where she can be reached:

       bobpen@ix.netcom.com

Even though it's officially Bob's mailbox, Steffi shares it too.
She'll be very pleased to receive email, if anyone wants to drop her a
    line or two.

We had a fun time going to the Monterey Aquarium and the Bonny Doon
Winery and, of course, playing with those kitties. We ate a LOT of
really great food (Bob and Steffi are great cooks) and went to several
fine restaurants. Now my wife and I need to go on a diet to lose the
weight we gained over the weekend!!

Well, this is a different kind of question --
I know where the noter went, I'm trying to find
out who was looking for the noter recently.

Jan (llama mmama) Brown was being looked for by
a couple of DEC people at the New Hampshire Llama
Association Fall Festival in Durham at UNH.
Unfortunatly, Jan and the DEC people never got
together -- we heard from someone else that
"two women from Digital were looking for Jan."
(Jan was chairing the event, and was literally
five or six places at once!) Jan thought that
FELINE would be a good place to check, and hopefully
        to satisfy our curiosity.

        Thanks,

Subj:	Hello!

Karen,

It was great to hear from you! I've been meaning to write to you for the
feliner newsletter to update everyone. Maybe you can print this out and
include it in the next issue. For the newsletter record, my e-mail address
is smichellec@aol.com. You can also send mail to me at missqitty@aol.com
(this is still my account, just a different screen name).

I'm doing great (especially since I'm back online!). After leaving DEC, I
got a job with The Fresno Bee (the local newspaper) in the Advertising
department. I'm an administrative assistant, and my duties include a lot of
revenue and expense reports, salary/performance appraisal management, and
preprinted insert (i.e. the Macy's catalog) management. It's a great job
that really keeps me busy (and it's more in line with my BA degree -
English).

I bought a 3-bedroom, 2-bath house here in Fresno, which I just love. And,
I've added to my family (unfortunately, no human additions!):
Murphy - Airdale/Boxer cross, adopted at 8 weeks, is now
                   1-1/2 years old;

Kathrine "Katie" Mayfair - long-haired tortie, 5 or 6 years
                    old, adopted a year ago Thanksgiving;

Tuxedo - Dalmatian, about 1-1/2 years old, adopted a few
                    months ago;

and, I still have the adorables: Lasher and Nicodemus, black
cats, 3 years old in March, '95.

I think I'm at my pet limit (can't afford to feed any more!), especially
since Katie was recently sick for about three months and the vets never
really found out what was wrong with her! It began with symptoms of FUS,
which we treated with antibiotics. She responded to the antibiotics, but
three weeks later, she was sick again. The first time she got sick, I took
her to the vet she had seen in the past, but this time, I took her to my vet.
This time, she was put on another antibiotic and a prescription urinary
tract diet. She responded to treatment for a couple of weeks, but before I
even finished up the antibiotics, she was showing the FUS symptoms again
along with diarrhea. My vet did some urine and blood work, which showed only
slightly out-of-whack readings - nothing that could be causing her symptoms.
So, she went on another antibiotic and the vet gave her a steroid shot to
help with inflammation caused by the diarrhea. (Am I getting too graphic
here? :) So this went on a couple more times. She was sick every two weeks!
Then my vet gave me a referral to the veterinary clinic at UC Davis. I
didn't take her there right away because of the distance and expense, and, in
the meantime, I changed her diet to a natural canned food with added
nutritional supplement (recipe from The Natural Cat by Anitra Frasier) and
freshly grated carrots and zucchini. So, by the time I took her up to Davis,
she was recovering. At the time, I thought she was pretty much back to her
old self, but that didn't happen for another month. The vets at Davis did
some more urine and blood work, which still didn't show any cause for her
symptoms, and basically said she has FUS and the diarrhea was probably caused
by a sensitivity to the prescription food since it cleared up when I changed
her diet. (I also gave her slippery elm syrup to help with the gas in her
intestines.) During all this time, Katie had lost about 5 pounds too, but
now she's gained some of the weight back and is her usual noisy, friendly
self. We never did discover what was really wrong with her. I think maybe
the initial bout with FUS and diarrhea threw her into a depression that
caused her to stop eating and to sleep all day. The combination of a good
diet and me dragging her out from under the bed every day to give her extra
attention got her out of the rut. I sure hope this never happens again!

So that's a quick recap of my adventures since leaving DEC. Nothing very
exciting; just enjoying life in Fresno.

38.412It is my turn to say See Ya!LTSLAB::BIGELOWPAINTS; color your corralThu Dec 01 1994 14:2320
Well, it's my turn to say `See Ya'

Digital has made the decision not to support a `corporate-wide power
testing lab (although all my customers begged to differ).....so...as
of 12/6/94, I will no longer be with DEC.

I am very happy about my future, I'm going to do something I've been
wanting to do for the past 4 years.....Teach high school and breed
Fjord horses. My husband is happy too, because he won't have to listen
to me crab about this place! :^)

Good luck to all of you staying. I'll miss this Notesfile, as I have
learned a lot over past 10 years from reading about other experiences.

Take Care! I'll miss you all!

	Michele

I can remember the first time I ever read one of your notes and asked
myself, "paint the corral?" I figured it out! Good luck with your

Arlene, I'm sorry you've been TFSoed. I edit the FELINEr offline
newsletter and would be happy to add you to the mailing list if you
like. It hasn't gone out in several months, due to commotions in
my vicinity (my former employer merged, then I went job hunting, etc.
etc.). If you want to be on the mailing list, send me your address.
There's no charge for the newsletter.

Ok, it's my turn to say "goodbye" but at least for me, unlike others,
it's by *my* choice ! Sometime between now and the 15th of March, I
will be leaving not only my job here in MCS but also DIGITAL !!

My son, Matt, and I will be going on a new adventure as I have accepted
a new job outside the company *and* outside the state - Houston, TEXAS,
    here we come !!!!!!!!

I will miss my Digital colleagues and the friends I've made here through
work and through the notes files. I have high hopes of being able to
remain in touch with people here through my AOL account, so feel free
to write and keep me up on all the latest Digital news !!!!!

Best of luck to all of you in the times ahead. I hope Digital continues
it's upward progress, for your sakes.

    With mixed emotions,
    Debbi

    DJancaitis@AOL.com

P.S. The Silver Lining Memorial Fund will stay (along with my other
Accounts) at DCU until someone lets me know they'll take it over !
I don't mind continuing to monitor it - right now we have $186.07
if there's a worthy cause you want to get it !

Bet you guys didn't even know I was gone. I was in Reno for 4 days
and then home sick with bronchitis (nasty case, got it before leaving

Anyway, this is just a heads up to let folks know that I'll be out
of the office 8/7 through 8/13 for my yearly camping trip to the
Yosemite area. I might even sneak a peak at how the rock slide has
changed the face of my favorite place.
