23.0. "SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT, DO IT HERE...." by MUTTON::BROWN () Tue Nov 19 1991 17:13

I think it might be fun to have a topic where we can all brag about
the wonderful things that our cat/cats have done. This will be our
official "brag" topic. I will keyword it BRAGS.

Most of us have cats, and we all know how great they can be, but
sometimes they do something that is so wonderful that we want to
"brag" about it. Don't hold anything back in this one. Let us
all know how wonderful your baby is.

Now remember, this is for out and out bragging. Not intended for
the faint at heart. (noter or reader)

    Have at it!!!

23.1Mr. MiyagiSOLVIT::IVESWed Dec 04 1991 12:1336
This is a brag about our Mr. Miyagi

We went away this last weekend from Wednesday night till Sunday late PM
to the White Mountains. This is the first time we have taken all *3*
cats. Mr. Miyagi has been outside in his carrier going to the vets but
that's all since we've had him a year ago last August.

Well, he was just wonderful. We put him in the carrier with Ming (our
other seal point himmie) and they rode laying on/beside each other all
the way. No one except Mocha let out a meow. (That's another story but
not a brag) When we got to the strange house we took the carrier with
the himmies upstairs to our bedroom, and let them out there, and fixed
the litter box and food dishes in the bathroom and went out and closed
the door till we got everything else unpacked. Mr. Miyagi slept on our
bed all night with Ming, and by morning was hardly "wide eyed". He and
Ming stayed in the bedroom mostly, ('cause we had a 2 1/2 year old
child of the other couple with us.) Saturday evening Tim and I were
alone in the living room enjoying the fireplace, and down came Mr.
Miyagi. He hopped up on the couch and stayed there or 3 hours. This
was so wonderful. For those of you who might have forgotten, when Mr.
Miyagi came to live with us he spent his first SIX months under one of
the twin beds too scared to come out. He stayed in that room every
minute of the time.!!!!!!! Now here he was in a strange house, and
walking around investigating, and making himself right at home.

We are looking forward to our next trip, and taking our furfaces with
us, especially so since we know Mr. Miyagi now will be fine and not
    scared out of his wits.

I am so glad we adopted him. He is my velcro cat, but loves Tim also
and is very affectionate toward him.

Thanks for letting me brag about my Mr. Miyagi

    Barbara

23.2A Brag for the ModeratorsSOLVIT::IVESWed Dec 04 1991 15:4612
I wish I had made this my first note here..

I wanted to say a BIG Thank You to the moderators for this new
    feline notes file.

You gals deserve a gold star for the great format and all the hard
work that went into transfering this file from here to there and
the many hours of blood, sweat, and tears that accompany doing a
project like this across the networks.

    Regards,
    Barbara
23.3Another Thank You!SANFAN::BALZERMAWed Dec 04 1991 19:1713

Well said, Barbara! I was debating whether to enter my comment in
this note or in the "moderator" note. Moderating is a thankless
job and we DO appreciate it. You folks did your job and I think we
should do ours. Feliners, let's try to utilize this space wisely. With
Corporate cutbacks and "rightsizing", systems will be looked at closely.
Using keyword searches and utilizing the topical notes already in place
will reduce the amount of disk space we use. It also makes it alot easier
to keep track of everything! Moderators, thank you again for a job well
    done!!!

Definitely a job well done! Kudos to the moderators. I was in touch
with Jo off-line and know she worked hard on this new version of

Well, I had two firsts this past weekend and I just have to brag.

    Announcing

CFF MASTER GRAND CHAMPION PUTIPUT'S SILVER SHADOW!!!!!!

I thought he'd made in Saturday night in Liz Bickford's ring but
I found out Sunday morning that I was off by 2 points. Then
Don LeClaire gave Shadow a Best Grand in an ALLBREED ring and I
said "NOW, he's a master grand". Liz was sitting there and she
said "You're sure now....." :^) I told her it just meant I got
    to get excited twice.

AND... Putiput's Quick Silver aka "The silver bullet" made his
debut at this last show. There were 4 scottish fold kittens, 25
shorthair kittens and 40 longhair kittens. He finalled in 5 out
of 10 rings and brought me my FIRST BEST KITTEN!! He also got
    a 2nd and 7th best Specialty and a 4th and 10th best allbreed.
He was such a joy to show.

And Sandy, you can tell Dundee that Shadow is carrying on the
tradition of one escape per show. He led me a merry chase
around the show hall first thing Saturday morning.
      Nancy DC

Congratulations, Nancy! Was this at the Andover show?

My brag is sorta once or twice removed. Pat Senser told me that
her cat Periwinkle got Best Alter, and then Best of the Best in
Andover this past weekend. Peri is half-brother to my two girls,
Jenny & C.C. - same momcat, and he and Jenny look nearly identical.

23.11CONGRATULATIONS PAT AND DANDYCOASTL::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Wed Dec 11 1991 07:1016
Ruby Dandy-lion is one hot contender in the world of altered
purebreds. Besides being a nice scottish fold (if I do say so
myself) he has a wonderful show disposition. Shadow should take
some lessons from "Meeps". He's definitely got his dad's personality.
    Batman makes some wonderful kittens.

I'm very grateful to have a stud that produces good quality purebreds
    plus fabulous dispositions.

I think that it won't be long before Putiput can claim a second
Master Grand Champion. (Technically, Meeps is a Talegre fold, but
    he's half Putiput)

And of course, Pat does a fabulous job of presenting Dandy.

       			PLEASANTVIEW ORESTES OF MYSINHS!!!

Yay!! If it wasn't for Marlene showing up and helping me send "vibes"
to Will Thompson, I don't think we could have done it. She and I sat
in the ring adjacent to Will's and when he was figuring up his finals
and crossing cats off his list, she and I were meditating and chanting
(AAahhhhhmmmmmmmm), and sending him the message "final Reste, final
Reste, final Reste." The mahareeshi couldn't have done a better job!

Will pulled Reste's number and Marlene says to me, "see, we have just
disproven the theory that bringing champagne to a show jinxes a
potential grand!" But of course, I didn't *know* she was going to
bring champagne so I guess that the theory still holds. :')

Will used Reste as his 10th BAB (Best Allbreed) cat, and that gave Reste
35 points. Vicki Dickerson had used Reste as her 8th BLH (Best
Longhair) on Saturday, giving him 15 points. We only needed 44 more, so
with the ring points from the Best of Breed wins, we are over 200.

So, we sent Marlene out for more Champagne and we had a small
celebration. The grand party is scheduled for January 4th at the Tails
and No Tales show in San Jose. West Coast Feliners please join us
    there for champagne and cake.

Next, we have to finish up Obi and Nepenthe, and then I think I will
take a short rest from showing and get my house back in order. ;')

fun afternoon! Jo introduced me to a friend of hers, an Exotic breeder
from down south. Becky is really nice and her Tortie is adorable. As it
turned out both of the cats granded in Will Thompson's ring. It was
an exciting afternoon! BTW, mhj, the more that I thought about her

Congratulations! Planning and having a wedding is great fun.

One piece of advice (gained through experience):

When you get dressed for the wedding, don't put your veil on
in the house! Unless you want felines trying to climb up it.

One of my favorite pictures in my wedding album is of the bride
(me), in her finery grabbing Poppy, who's trying to escape out the
door that the limo driver is holding open for everyone.

    We're all happy for you.

Well, I now have a celebrity in the house.....

Last year Shadow's picture was taken by Tetsu Yamazaki who is the
photographer who did the photography for "The Legacy of the Cat".
I got a page from a book (Cat Catalog 1992) that has Shadow's picture
on it! The book is in Japanese but who cares! I can still read
    the pictures.

I suppose now he'll want crystal dishes, servant cats and imported

maybe I was out of line asking them, but I never expected that come

I suspect that Shadow has his own ideas tho. I saw him with a

He's also ordered his own phone - cordless, of course - and

I discovered something this morning. Alex likes to wash her toys.

I always wondered why, sometimes when she brings us either a foam ball
or a jingle ball to throw for her to fetch, that it would be wet.
Well, this morning, I saw her deliberately take one of her foam balls
(that we had been playing with) and putting it in her waterbowl, and
dunking it. Then she would take it out, and "hand" it to me.

It isn't so bad with the jingle balls (although the bells sound a
little flat after washing), but the foam balls are rather icky wet.

    Well...at least she's clean! ;^)

Finally, I have something tangible to brag about in here. This
past weekend I took Onyx to the Tails and No Tails Cat Show here
in San Jose, CA. It was his first show and given that he was wild
as a kitten and is very shy when people he doesn't know come into
the house, I was worried about how he would react. Well, once a
showaholic, always a showaholic...I put my fears and aside and
    entered him.

    Drum roll please.

I'm pleased to announce that not only was Onyx well-behaved (if
somewhat timid), he walked away with a ribbon in every one of the
6 rings. Awards were as follows:

9th Best HHP	from Vicki Dickerson
6th Best HHP	from Sylvia Fitzgerald
4th Best HHP	from Wayne Trevathan
4th Best HHP	from Norma Placchi
2nd Best HHP	from Gary Powell
    		BEST HHP	from Carolyn Bullotta

Several of the judges remarked on how shiney his coat was and one even
compared the shine of his coat to patent leather.

I'm so pleased with how he did, I think I'm going to have to start
showing again on a regular basis (it has been a year since my last
show). Poor Onyx, if he'd have known this he probably would have
    acted up a bit more.

Onyx and I would like to thank Aunties Jo and Marlene for all the
moral support they gave us. And, I'd like to thank Jo and Ken and
the rest of their cat club for putting on such a fine show.

23.40Raging success!!MUTTON::BROWNMon Jan 06 1992 18:2138
I want to brag about how well the show went. We got a late start
planning it because the club was busy working on a one day fundraiser
show back in September. But, we pulled it together at the last minute
    and did a great job.

With the help of my other sister, Jaci, we did a major media blitz for
publicity. It paid off in a small article about the show in the San
Jose Mercury news the day before the show, a small classified ad that
ran for two weeks prior to the show, space on the Merc's Entertainment
Calendar, an telephone interview with a local radio station on Saturday
night, a news story on Channel 11, the San Jose news channel, at 6:00PM
on Saturday night, a cameraman from the San Francisco ABC affiliate KGO
(which unfortunately didn't make the newscast but which will be used as
file footage), and a 6" x 9" color phot of Gary Powell judging a
Siamese cat on the FRONT PAGE of the San Jose Mercury News this
morning! I also had reports from spectators that they heard about the
show on various local radio stations so our PSA's were used too. It
has actually been tough keeping track of all this media attention so
that we can send them all thank you notes this week.

The publicity really showed at the gate too. By 3:30 in the afternoon
on Saturday we had achieved a record gate for our show! We had
exceeded last year's total for two days! By the close of the show
Sunday we had more than doubled that! Our club treasurer is so happy
that we can now pay all the bills, (we were all a bit worried about
this after losing $2,000 on this show last year) and we are all happy
to have some club money left to donate to our favorite charities.

Thank goodness our show hall is 30,000 square feet. We were able to
make 12 foot aisles between benching rows so that none of our
exhibitors would feel cramped with that much gate in the hall.

Many thanks go to Marlene and Jan, who aren't members of the club
(yet), but who worked their tails off helping us set up and tear down.
This is quite a job for a small club and we need all the help we can
    get.

Oh, and I almost forgot....there were some finals for us too.

This was Reste's first show as a grand, and he did pretty well. There
were 12 Birmans in the class, 3 of them grand champions. Reste made
Best of Breed in 4 rings, and 2nd Best of Breed in one, and was dumped
    in only one ring.

He made finals in the four rings he was BOB in. Carolyn Bullotta gave
him 6th BAB. Norma Placchi gave him 6th BAB. Vicki Dickerson gave him
10th BLH, and Joan Benson gave him 5th BLH.

Obi, the last of my Kalliste babies, made a champion win in Norma
Placchi's ring too. She awarded him 2nd Best Allbreed Champion, and
now he needs only 10 points to grand. When he grands, my sweet Joui
will attain the title of Distinguished Merit for having 5 grand
    champion offspring.

Another Joui baby, her daughter Lyscentia, was also in attendance at
this show. Some of you may remember that I had spayed and placed
her with my friend Dana and her ten year old daughter Michelle back in
September. Well, Lyscentia was expertly shown by Michelle (I showed
her what to do in the first ring and after that she was offering me
tips!), and was awarded all her winner's ribbons. Now that she is a
premier, Michelle plans to try to show her to her grand. At the end of
the weekend, Michelle gave me a hug and thanked me for giving her
Lyscentia, and for "introducing her to the wonderful world of showing
cats". Too cute for words! :')

A wonderful time WAS had by all this weekend! It was alot of fun and
alot of hard work. This is really the first show that I have worked
on and only now can I truly appreciate the effort that goes into it.

Congratulations to Jan & Onyx! BTW, his fur does look like patent
leather! :') He was a little timid at first but by the time Sunday
afternoon rolled around Mum and Onyx were walking the floor with Onyx
looking quite comfortable in Jan's arms!

Reste held his own against the Grands in the class and Auntie was proud
of him! He is such a love and we had great conversations in the
bathroom at the the hotel. I just love the way that boy feels!!!

Jo, only 10 points for another Grand and a new DM. What a party we

I took Reste to the Watsonville show this weekend and he made all 6
fianls!! The highpoint of the show was the first day, when Patti Davis
awarded him BEST CAT in her longhair ring (Marlene, we made first over
Mac!), and then Donna Jean Thompson gave him 2nd Best AB Cat (Mac was
first that time). What a great time that was. His other placements
were 4th BAB from Joan Benson, 6th Best AB from Bob Salisbury, 7th Best
LH from Gary Veach, and 8th BAB from Betty Denny.

Michelle brought Lyscentia to this show and she had a wonderful time.
This was her first show as a premier and Joan gave her Best Longhair
Premier, Best Allbreed Premier, and 6th Best Cat. Then Gary Veach gave
her Best Longhair Premier and 2nd Best LH Cat. Michelle was so excited
about all those rosettes! Then, I taught her to count points and she
can't wait til the next show. For a 10 year old she is sure picking
this up quick. You should have seen how cute she looked carrying
Lyscentia to the rings in her show pose. :'D At the end of the day she
asked me if there are ever any shows that are only Birmans, and I told
her that there was a show that had a whole lot of Birmans, but it was
in Ohio. She says to me "I will be right back......." and then I hear
her saying "Mom! there is this show with a whole lot of Birmans and I
think we should go....it is in Ohio, but that is okay cuz we could take
our vacation there..." :') :') :') Looks like I will have a new
    roommate in Medina!

in Patti Davis' ring. How exciting!!! A BEST over Mac (Mac is an
absolutely gorgeous black Exotic Shorthair GRC that is quite a package)!
It sounds like it was a fun show!!!

I guess Michelle is on her way to a GRP with Lyscentia! I bet she'll
pick up quickly on the point counts! I can just picture her
delivering Lyscentia to the ring in the show pose. It must have been

Ok, so Jo and company are cleaning up on the west coast!! Way to go!!
:^) Jo's Birmans are definitely first class! Congrats.

I took Shadow and his son, Quicksilver, to the Mansfield show yesterday
and they really did me proud! We made every final. Shadow took all
five best of breeds against two other folds. Silver took four of five
    against two other kittens.

For finals: Shadow got a Second best Allbreed, two 6th best allbreeds
    and a 4th and 5th best specialty.
Silver made all five finals his best being a BEST KITTEN ALLBREED.

Silver was also the HIGHEST SCORING SHORTHAIR KITTEN in show and got
a stunning silver and white FIVE FOOT LONG ribbon that had been given
by Dick Marsh and Meg Lambert in memory of their two kittens (You may
remember Torry - I wrote about him in the old FELINE). The top of
the ribbon was the size of a big dinner plate. I mean, it was too long
    to hang on the cage!

Quicksilver's dad, Sean, and I are drawing up a custody agreement for
that ribbon :^) Right now it is residing in New Hampshire with
Silver, Duggie, Sean and Ava. Since they own Silver now, it seemed
    the right thing to do.

Thanks for letting me share this.

    				Announcing

    		Champion Sacrechat's Jouissance de Mysinhs....

    			Distinguished Merit (D.M.)!!!!!

WE DID IT!!! I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

Joui has now earned the title of Distinguished Merit by having produced
five CFA Grand Champion or Grand Premier offspring.

Joui was born on August 20, 1986. Her first litter, born January 31,
1988, was sired by Baslatan's Artaise of Junsui. That litter produced
two grands, GRC Mysinhs Lysander of Junsui, and GRP Mysinhs Lizette.
Another litter sister is on her way to granding in Premiership too, her
name is CH, PR Mysinhs Lyscentia.

Joui's second litter was born on December 7, 1988. This litter was
sired by GRC Pleasantview Kalliste de Mysinhs. That litter of three
kittens produced two more grands, GRC Mysinhs Latisse of Birgatos, and
GRP Mysinhs Livin' In The Wild Wild West.

After her second litter, Joui had to undergo surgery for Pyometra. We
were afraid we would have to spay her, but she pulled through with
flying colors. She took a couple years off from breeding to
recuperate. Her third litter was also my last litter from Kalliste.
That litter was born January 20, 1991, and there was one special little
blue boy kitten that was destined for a show career. His name is
Mysinhs Our Obsession of Kattah, and Patsy Lanman and I co-own him.
Obi, as he is affectionately called, became a Grand Champion this weekend
in Seattle, becoming Joui's 5th Grand, and earning her the title of
    D.M.

Joui is very pleased with herself. She has been strutting around the
house since I told her the news, and she shared a glass of champagne
with me and Ken too. I also saw her and Limoges (the west coast partner
of THE FIRM) with their heads together on Saturday night. Oh no! So far,
among her list of demands, she now wants to be referred to as the
    "Grand Dame!" 8')

The big celebration will be this weekend at the Coronado Cat Club show
in San Francisco, at the Hall of Flowers.

    Jo

PS - as far as I know, Joui is the FIRST SEAL POINT BIRMAN D.M. Will
have to wait until CFA confirms before I will know for sure. There are
only three Birman D.M.'s so far, and they are all blue females.

congratulations to you too, Nancy. That ribbon really is something else.

We brought PIMA and Kyra to the show in Mansfield as well. Kyra didn't do
very well since her sister was there. Her sister is a Black and white
Turkish angora and her head is much better than Kyra's.

but PIMA did fantastic! She finaled in four out of five rings. she got
a nineth best allbreed kitten, a fifth best allbreed kitten, a BEST Shorthair
Kitten and a BEST ALLBREED KITTEN! And boy was she a character! she wouldn't
let her number stay up in ANY of the rings! As fast as we put the number up,
down it went! She didn't like her number I guess!

I can't resist bragging about this one! ..and I thought you folks that
work so hard with the Pat Brody shelter would like to hear about it.
    :^)

You may recall that my friend, Darlene, could not leave the last
Invitational Regional Qualifier without a little dilute calico/siamese
kitten from the Pat Brody shelter. Melange has been living the good
life ..training Darlene to cater to the whims of a very special
    fur-person.

Well, this past weekend Melange made her Debut at the CFA show on
Long Island. There were 12 HHPs entered in that show ..and Melange,
not yet six months old, decided to start her career off right ..winning
Best HHP in her very first ring! Darlene was very proud of her girl and
enjoyed telling the story of how she got her from the Pat Brody
    shelter.

Melange wasn't quite sure what to make of all of this, but she seemed
to enjoy herself and all the attention. Her success continued through
    the show as she ended up with 7 rosettes: 1 Best, 1 2nd, 1 3rd, 1 5th,
2 6th and 1 8th. In one ring the judge opted to give the only two
kittens a cat-toy kitten award so she could give rosettes to the ten
    adults.

Melange is scheduled to be spayed this Thursday so she will be home for
the next few weeks, but she has been entered in the Boston show
next month ..and Darlene plans to continue to show her as long as
    Melange seems to enjoy it.

Needless to say, I have my order in for a few more copies of it!!

Sweetie saw in and just pranced around the house. "Yes, that's MY picture
in Cats magazine! And yes, I AM sweet! Just as sweet as can be! Yes you
may pet me, but only if you must."

Kyra and Pima saw it and just said, "Hey, big deal! Now there'll be NO
living with him!!"

The rest of the clan was unimpressed as well. (-:

Well, I'm a very proud mom this past weekend! I took P.A. (my Korat
kitten) and my niece took Crystal (P.A.'s sister) to their first CFA
cat show in Marion, OH. And I'm proud (tickled pink!) to say that P.A.
came in 8th best SH in one ring, and 9th best SH in another! Also,
Crystal came in 10th best ALLBREED in a ring!

GRAND CHAMPION PLEASANTVIEW ODALISQUE OF PATSUCRE

It's official. I just called Herman at CFA and confirmed that Dancer is
now a Grand Champion. She granded in Frank Roderick's ring at the Show
on Staten Island last weekend. Frank made her 2nd Best LH Champion,
2nd Best AB Champion and 3rd Best AB Cat in show.

Later, at the same show, Walter Hutzler placed her Best LH Champion,
2nd Best AB Champion and 3rd Best AB Cat in show ...and Donna Davis
placed her 5th Best Cat in her LH ring. She finished up with 310
points and I sure am proud of her.

Danny beat Dancer out in one ring going 2nd BOB and Best Champion
giving him his first four points towards granding. Only 196 to go! :^)

Dancer will be making her debut as a Grand at the upcoming Boston show
and Danny will be there also.

    Hope we see you there!

23.98A little clarification...ISLNDS::SOBEKThu Feb 13 1992 14:0011
Oooops! I think I was misleading. Dancer finished up as a Grand with
310 points overall. 134 points were picked up at the show this past
weekend, 142 were picked up the at the Ct. the weekend before, and
the rest were divided between a couple of NJ shows.

I owe a big thank you to Jo for introducing me to Julie Collin ..and
to Julie for trusting me with Dancer. It's been great fun showing her
..and part of the fun has been sharing the experience with you folks!

23.99A fun weekend..ISLNDS::SOBEKMon Feb 24 1992 14:1122
The CFA show in Boston this past weekend was alot of fun ..and it was
great seeing many of you Feliners. Dancer did very well, making the
finals in two LH rings and one AB ring.

The highlight of the weekend, though, was Melange, the former Brody
shelter kitty being shown by another Deccie, Darlene Mulcahy. She did
very well in all rings and ended up winning the special award for
Best Household Pet overall for the weekend. Suzy Becker, the author
of "Everything I Need to Know I Learned From My Cat" presented a framed
orignal drawing that she had done ..and there was also an engraved
award with a silver cup. Darlene was thrilled ..Melange seemed to
wonder what all the excitement was as she posed for pictures. :^)

Many spectators stopped to admire Melange and Darlene enjoyed being
able to show the folks how much fun you can have with a pet adopted
    from a shelter. :^)

Hope we'll see some of you folks at the Binghamton, NY show next
    weekend...

for you. Enjoy showing her as a grand.

Now for a little brag. I showed Lizette this past weekend in her first
show as a grand. She finaled in 3 rings. In one longhair speciality
ring she got 3rd best LH in premiership. The judge likes to call the
    Birman girls, Birwomen. ;-)

In the rings where she didn't final, the judge didn't pick any Birman,
and there were 3 beautiful Birmans. Lizette's sister got more points
toward granding. Lizette's granddaughter was there, also. On the
human side, Jo and Jan were also there. It was a fun time.

Well, it was Onyx's 2nd cat show ever this past weekend and he
didn't do too badly. He might even have done better if his mother
hadn't of blown the last ring for him by mentioning to the clerk
that he was wanted in the ed ring as soon as he was done. The clerk
told the judge, the judge got a weird look on his face and sent him
back 2 seconds after looking at him. I didn't mean for that to
happen, I just wanted to know if the judge was going to keep the cats
up or send them back as he finished them since there were 19 of them.

He was awarded with the following ribbons.

8th Best HHP Jean Grimm ?
    			4th Best HHP Lois Jensen?
2nd Best HHP Willa ? Hawke

Sorry, forgot to write down the judges.

Three wins out of 6 rings is not bad. There were 19 HHPs fighting
for wins (or just fighting in some cases...lots of hissers and growlers
in this bunch). They were all very beautiful, very well cared for
HHPs and I'm sure it was tough to narrow them down to 10.

    Ed ring = education ring

Sorry, I didn't mean to assume that everyone would know what I was
talking about. The people who put the show on asked me if I would
put Onyx in the education ring. Joan Wasselhubber talked about how
judging was done and what she looked for. She also talked about how
Household Pets were judged; Onyx was her model kitty. Then she called
me up to tell about how I acquired Onyx.

Poor Onyx, he had 2 rings close to each other in the morning, sat
around in his cage all day then had 2 judging rings and the ed ring
all in the space of 1/2 hour. What a little trooper he is. Although,
I have to say...I've never seen him hiss once since I got him... until
    this weekend.

I also was asked to participate in the education ring this weekend.
They asked me to give a talk about Birmans. What an honor! Anyway,
the ed ring topic was "pointed breeds" and they had a Siamese breeder,
Balinese breeder, Tokinese breeder, Himalayan breeder, and myself. It
was great fun. I had Reste up there as my prop and he loved every
minute of it! :') He just soaked up all the attention from the
    audience.

Well, this weekend was full of ups and downs, but even the downs had
    their up sides!!

First the downs... On the way to the very first ring, Trish Long's,
Shadow pulled one of his *Dundee tricks* and tried to get away from
me by pushing off my chest. Since the cage door wasn't open he ended
up going between two of the ring cages. I managed to keep a grip on
one back leg and he ended up hanging on to the back of the cages.
When I tried to get a grip on him with my other hand he chewed me
    up pretty badly.

Later it was discovered that he ripped off one of his claws in
the process. I have no doubt that he was in intense pain at
the time I was trying to get a grip on him and that was why he
    chewed me up so badly.

Shadow went to a very very nice vet who gave him a shot of antibiotics
and who even made a "show call" the next day to check up on him.

Sunday I put Shadow back in the ring and he was just fine.

I want to put in VERY SPECIAL THANKS to the following folks -

First to TRISH LONG (CFF Judge). Trish spent alot of time talking to
Shadow while I was being attended to. She petted him and calmed him
down and then took him OUT of the cage and over to the judging table
to examine him. That's when the injury was discovered. I have no
doubt that it was her care and handling of Shadow that enabled him
to go back into the ring the next day. Most judges have been
bitten at some point in their career and the *KNOW* how painful
it is. To take a cat out of a cage who has just "blown", when the
owner isn't even there, is a great act of faith and bravery IMO.

Second, to Joyce Gutches and the other wonderful folks who fussed
over me and kept me from falling on my face and from getting blood
all over the show hall :^)

Also Many many thanks to the Naragansett Bay Cat Fanciers who hosted
the show for the fantastic care that was given to both Shadow and
myself and for the wonderful support and concern expressed by all
    the exhibitors.

I also understand that I made the Providence Journal.

I'm going to put the second half of this note in another reply.....

Shadow's son, Quicksilver, was the third highest scoring kitten
in the show winning the THIRD BEST OF THE BEST ribbon for the show.
This is my first BOTB ribbon ever.

And I might add that the field of folds, SH & LH was very very
impressive. Beverly and Gene had some absolutely gorgeous kittens
out at this show. The breed has come a LONG way in CFF and it
is a source of great pride for me to see such good quality folds in

This past weekend was my first chance ever to show a kitten from my own
    breeding program. On Nov 2, 1991 our first Birman litter was born;
...one sealpoint male, two bluepoint males and one sealpoint female.
Of course every one of them is beautiful to my (admittedly very
prejudiced) eyes. I am thinking of having a tee shirt made up that
says "I'm cattery blind and proud of it! ". :^)

Two of the kittens made their showing debut at the Long Island CFA
show this past weekend. Patsucre's Outback Renegade (seal male) and
Patsucre's Offislander (blue male) were purr-buckets all weekend.
They loved all the attention and seemed to enjoy the whole experience.

Since they are only four months old and competing against the many older
kittens who are out there making a serious showing now that the end of
this year's show season is approaching, they were entered mostly to get
them used to the show scene. They were a delight to show ..giving me
great big rumble-purrs and 'head-butts' when I was carring them back and
forth from the rings; .....and it was extra thrilling when Joan Ohara
finalled *both of them* in her LH ring. Renegade was 9th best LH kitten
and Offislander was 6th best kitten!

I made it to the Revelers show in San Mateo this weekend; it was GREAT!
Sorry to say I can't tell who won what though... it was my first show,
and I just wandered around big-eyed at all the elaborate cats and
cages. 8^) I know that Jan's cat, Onyx O'Kitty, took sixth best
Household Pet in one ring, and I saw JoAnne showing Opposites Attract
but I don't know how he placed. Reste had two Best of Breeds before I
    left Saturday afternoon.

It was so great to meet Jan, JoAnne, Ken, Jackie (Jan and JoAnne's

in this file everyday. :-) And your friendliness and willingness to
tell me (cat-show-naive-to-the-MAX) all about showing and judging and
cats in general (you are all such fountains of information!) made my

The show this weekend was a blast! It was great to meet Michelle and
spend some rather hectic time with her and to see Irene Hensley and
Karen Kolling again (even if it was only for a few minutes).

It was also fun having my younger sister there. She did the Public
Relations work for Revelers. She's also becoming a fast study in
Birmans and cat shows and was answering questions with the best of them.

Now, on to my announcement. The household pet class at the Reveler's
show was quite large (27 HHPs). This is one of the largest classes I've
seen for a while. Even some of the breeders bring out their HHPs for
this show. There have been shows in the past where I spent the entire
weekend showing (and keeping my fingers crossed) only to go home empty
    handed. But, not this time...yeah!

Onyx received a 6th Best HHP in the first ring of the show. We were
given a beautiful rosette and a silver champagne glass. Then we
sweated it out for the rest of the day and came up empty handed.

On Sunday we had 4 finals (one carried over from Saturday). We weren't
in the first 2 and I was beginning to think I would not end up with a
nice set of 2 silver champagne glasses, but I was happy we'd finalled
in at least 1 ring. I almost missed judging in one ring since I was
totally engrossed in listening to Dr. Rue (Jo's vet) speak in the
education ring. I heard the 2nd call and ran Onyx over to the ring
(woke him up, cuddled him and stuck him in the ring cage...he was
thrilled). I'm not sure why but I didn't expect much to happen in this
ring. I was amazed when Onyx got called back for the final. I was
nervous as the judge began working his way up from 10th to the Best Cat.
When he got to the top 3 and hadn't picked Onyx, I was amazed. But let
me tell you, when Onyx was made BEST HHP in this ring, I almost cried.

This was a fun show. I had a great time even though I was exhausted by
    the end of each day.

23.125Birman Fever...ISLNDS::SOBEKMon Mar 23 1992 13:3412
Roberta, you are right. Renegade has been eye-catching right from the
beginning. Offislander was a little slower developing, but he has a
certain somethng about him that's hard to resist. When comparing the
two to the Birman standard, Renegade seems to fit the bill a little
closer. ..but one look at the sweet expression in Offislander's blue
eyes is enough to make just about anyone melt. :^)

Glad to hear that the Reveler's show was a huge success. Can't wait
until Jo gets in later to fill us in on the details.

Marlene, I was major excited. I wished you were there too. I probably
would have put bruises in your arm, though, as I hung on for dear life.
I have never had a cat be BEST CAT at a Revelers show. The competition
is ssooooooooooooooo tough. I had tears in my eyes as the judge asked
me how I acquired Onyx. I even went up and had him sign the ribbon
when it was over (I'd quit doing that ages ago.)

You go through such a range of feelings while sitting there waiting for
the judges to get through the final.

You're very happy to be selected for a final and to be in the top ten
but then when 10th and 9th are picked and they're not your cat, you're
sitting there praying for top 5 and when you make it up to top five you
start praying for top 3, Then when they start the top 3 and you still
haven't been picked you start getting really nervous. Then you start
praying for Best and thinking that you'll probably get 2nd or 3rd. Then
when they pick the other cats for 3rd and 2nd it is sooooo exciting and
everyone congratulates you and tears well up in your eyes and you hear
people say "I think she's going to cry" and you hear the judge saying
wonderful things about how well groomed and clean your cat is and how
shiney the coat is and you remember how hard you worked to bring that
little feral kitten into the house and coax him to like people and you
realize that this moment is the reason you keep coming back to the shows.

23.129Thank goodness it's over til next yearMUTTON::BROWNMon Mar 23 1992 16:2944
Reveler's is over for this year and boy am I glad!! I am so tired, and
I feel like I have been hit by a truck! Last night after the show we
collected all the club's supplies, and then the club members retired to
El Torito's in San Mateo to talk about how it went.

It went great. The show hall was very large, the decorating was
devine. We used a park theme, complete with wooden park benches,
gazebos, and lots of plants and flowers. My sister, Jaci, had been
hired by the club to do our PR and she did a wonderful job. The show
was crowded with people. The judging ran smoothly, and on time. We
finished up the best of the best presentations on time. And everyone
cooperated with the ESPN crew so they could get our show on tape for a
    later viewing.

For those that didn't get to see it, the big secret about the opening
ceremonies was that we had a Cable Car to come into the show hall and
drive our judges to their rings. It was full sized, and quite
impressive! There was one hitch, the Sheba booth that greeted our
visitors ended up being about 6 feet larger than they had told us
it would be, so when the cable car was to drive between the booth and
our foutain in the front, it was a very tight squeeze! We ended up
moving some of the shrubs flanking the fountain out of the way and the
car was able to pass through.

On the personal side, I had a great show. I had just ordered new
business cards, 1000 of them, and went through about 400 at the show!
Oppie was a doll all weekend, charming his way into the hearts of
spectators, judges, and my fellow exhibitors. A persian breeder told
me that she thinks he should have been named "most precious kitten in
show". :') Like Linda's kittens, he is just four months old (and two
days to be exact), and had to compete against a Birman kitten that was
six months old. But, he held his own. Donna Fuller placed him as her
10th Best Allbreed Kitten (the count was 85), and then on Sunday, Bob
Everett made Oppie his 6th Best Longhair kitten. Oppie was cuddled so
much on Friday (during set up) and Saturday that we had to bathe him
again on Saturday night for Sunday's rings. He had a pinkish tinge on
his head, which I would guess was from lipstick kisses. :')

Reste did me proud too. He was best of breed in 5 out of 6 rings, and
2nd best of breed in the other ring. Way to go! :')

The boys are headed to Tulare this weekend for a show there.

23.137Little Michelle and Lyscentia had a great show!MUTTON::BROWNThu Apr 09 1992 02:2322
We have some more good news. This weekend Mysinhs Lyscentia achieved
her Grand Premiership at the Golden West show in San Francisco, CA.
Lyscentia was out of my first litter of Birmans. She was spayed
last September and placed in the home of a very special ten year old,
Michelle Bianucci. Michelle gets all the credit for having granded
Lyscentia. Each weekend she would trim her nails, bathe her, blow her
dry and then present her perfectly groomed in the judging ring with no
help from me other than a few simple directions at her first show.

I have to admit that at first I didn't believe that 10 years old was
old enough to handle the responsibility of caring for a cat, let alone
keeping her in such wonderful show condition. I was wrong. :')

Lyscentia is the 3rd cat from her litter to achieve the title of Grand.
She is also the 6th offspring of Joui's to attain the title. I am very
    pleased and proud.

Michelle will be holding her "grand party" at the Santa Clara Valley
Cat Fanciers show on April 11th in San Jose, CA. She will be
serving sparkling cider and cake to all those that can make it. :')

make it to the show this weekend so please give her a big hug from
me and tell her how proud I am of her! She does get all of the credit
Jo, but she certainly has had the guidance of one of the best.

of one of the best. So did I, and I granded Lizette. Lizette sends
purrs and licks to her sister.

I won't be able to be at the show on the 11th, so Jo please give
Michelle a hug and kiss for me and Bob, too.

I'll probably be there on Saturday anyway. I want to help celebrate

The Boxboro show is always fun as we get to see so many of our friends.
This one was special for me as I was showing my kittens. I was thrilled
on Saturday when both kittens made the final in Gary Veach's ring.
Renegade was 6th best kitten and Offislander was 3rd best kitten. :^)

Sunday was even more exciting. Renegade was called to the final in Bob
Molino's ring and still hadn't been placed when only the top two were
left. He took out Renegade and described him ...and instead of placing
him 2nd best ..said he was best Birman and put him back. The only
remaining kitten was then placed 2nd best and Renegade was then placed
best kitten! Such is the stuff that dreams are made of.. :^) :^)

seemed to just eat up all the attention at the show.

it may not seem like much to you guys, but...

Hana has lost 1/2 pound since January!!! AND SO HAS SAM! This means that
the diet plan is working!!! We are so happy at our house....you see, Sam
had developed a heart murmur and I was frantic to get his weight down to
make it easier on his heart...and I am equally determined that Hana won't
get this problem to begin with - at least not due to her extra weight...and
we have the two youngsters who are NOT fat. It has been very tricky to
get this done. What we do is remove the food at 6:30 PM and put it out
at 6:30 AM...the food is now lite Max dry only...and the two slim girls get
treats (canned fishy food - they love it REALLY FISHY) every other night...

And, it is working. Whew! What a relief. I was afraid I was going to have
to restrict the fat ones to their rooms during the day - and really limit their
access to the munchies, but apparently, cats ARE republicans...remove the
food during the hours they tend to eat the most - and they will eat less
food, rather than change the times that they eat it.

This brag note is a little late due to a very busy week, but I wanted
to share the results of the CFA show on Long Island last weekend. The boys
did well with a combined total of 6 finals.

Helmrich: Renegade 7th BLH Offislander 9th BLH
    Koep: Renegade 2nd BLH
    Cummings: Offislander 3rd BAB
    Mellies: Renegade 5th BAB
    Thompson: Renegade 5th BAB

Renegade (sealpoint) and Offislander (bluepoint) pretty much took turns
going BOB and 2ND BOB in the rings. They were purr-buckets all weekend
and, needless to say, I was very proud of them!

Will any of you Feliners be at the Westfield NJ show next week?

Just wanted to let you know about the great weekend I had!
Despite my Korat's attitude (only P.A.) I got the following:

Allbreed Ring (same ring!)
Robbie (Dagneau's Throb Bleu of Mowl Sima): 10th Best Allbreed Kitten
P.A. (Mowl Sima's Silver Shadow): 3rd Best Allbreed Kitten

Specialty Ring
P.A. - 3rd Best Shorthair Kitten

For those of you that know Korats, it's a very happy moment to final
them. However, when was the last time ANYONE saw 2 Korats final in
an Allbreed ring on the East coast? I am SO HAPPY!!!!!

Jakey (J.K) my younger brothers cat, gave birth to four wee beauties on
Sunday 17th May - what a geat cat she is - no-one knew she was in
labour as she never made a sound. The first anyone knew was when my
Dad came in from the garden and heard a squeeking noise.

The smallest one is 4 oz and the biggest 5 oz it took her roughly 2
hours (about 1 every half an hour).

At first Jakey was very timid and went into the corner and hid -
staring at her knew babies, she didn't what was happening.

Anyway mother and babies are doing well.

Gee, that reminds me of the night Meggie had babies. She chose to have me
in attendance for the births, but she did the same "Hey, where did those
kittens come from???" act!

Ah, baby kittens..........no, no, forget it....I'm coming to my senses....

The Westfield, NJ CFA show this past weekend turned out to be fun in
spite of the uncomfortably (to say the least!) hot show hall that
sent most of us looking for ice packs and battery operated fans to keep
our cats cool and comfortable. The kids sure have been coming through
for me and I was thrilled when both of them made finals in four rings
and one of them finaled in three of the remaining four.

    The results were:

    C. Rothermal: Offislander 10th BLH
    H. Helmrich: Offislander 5th BLH Renegade 7th BLH
    B. Lee: Renegade 10th BAB
    D. Rothermal: Renegade 2nd BLH Offislander 5th BLH
    P. Jacobberger: Renegade 6th BLH Offislander 9th BLH
    R. Goltzer: Renegade 2nd BLH Offislander 7th BLH
    L. Watson: Offislander 5th BAB

The Catskill show in June (in conjuction with the regional awards

starting them on the championship-seeking trek in July, I am going to
be sorry to see their kitten career come to an end. They have given me

Well, the first White Glove Society Cat Show was held this past
Sat. and Sun. and Onyx and I were benched with a row full of Birmans.
By the end of the show you could look down the aisle and see bunches
of show ribbons hanging off of every cage. Our row was doing quite
    well in the finals.

And what about Onxy, you ask...

    	5th Best HHP
    	4th Best HHP
    	3rd Best HHP
    	BEST HHP
    	BEST HHP

This was an 8 ring show and there were only 11 HHP's that actually
made it to the show. Top 5 awards were given out for the HHPs.

One of the judges that gave Onyx a BEST HHP ribbon said he looked like
a "satin panther". He's such a beautiful boy and his momma is so proud
    of him.

    Jan

P.S. Nancy, congratulations on rakin' in all those wonderful awards.

I was benched in the same Birman row as Jan, so I watched her hanging
all those lovely black, white and silver rosettes on Onyx's cage. The
rosettes looked lovely with that gorgeous black cat. Congrats, Jan and
    Onyx.

There were 28 beautiful premiers and I'm proud to say that Lizette
finaled in both longhair speciality rings and one allbreed ring. If she
had a better attitude she might have finaled in another ring, but she
wouldn't look at the judge when the judge was waving toys over her
cage. It's so funny to watch all the Birmans do the Birman huff when
    the judge is holding them.

Any of you that may have seen the San Francisco Reveler's show on ESPN

We just returned from the SCBF show yesterday and I logged in here
expecting to see some brags from my fellow Birman breeders who have a
three hour advantage on me. But, it looks like I will just have to go
first. Maybe this will get them to come out of their shells and brag
    too. :')

Had a great time at the show this weekend. Although I wasn't able to
show my cats myself, because I am still laid up with the hip thing, I
still had a great time. Ken and Julie helped make sure our cats got to
the ring, and Ed had a wheelchair there for me to make things easier.

Piano Man, my new boy, did very well overall. There were 61 Birman
kittens entered in the show. Piano Man didn't do much the first day,
only got one second best of color ribbon, but he made up for it the
second day. On Sunday, he managed to pull down the best of color and
best of breed in all three rings, and then he finalled in 2 AB rings
and 1 SP ring. Gene Darrah gave him 6th BAB kitten, Sheila Mizzi gave
him 3rd BAB kitten, and Diana Rothermel gave him 5th BLH kitten. He
ended up being Best Birman kitten in show. He was also voted
Exhibitor's Choice for Best Birman Kitten. We are just thrilled.

I can't wait until I am walking again so that I can show this boy
myself. He is such a love, and I would really love to be able to put
    him in the ring myself.

23.211Birman stars!TUNER::JENKINSThu Aug 27 1992 13:4533
Well, I guess I should write about the Birman show but since I have a
hard time bragging about my cats I will say just a little. It was a
very stressful show for me since my boy, GRC Chatange Olery, is my
absolute hearthrob and I knew many eyes were on us. Olery made five
out of six finals including one best cat in a longhair ring. My
kittens both made a longhair final getting BOB/2nd Best Kitten and
2BOB/3rd Best Kitten. They are littermates and 3/4 brother/sister to
Olery which was also the same ring that Olery got his Best Cat in.
It was obvious to me that the judge must have liked the look of my cats
to have placed all three of them so high in her finals in such heavy
competition. Also, immediately after leaving the kitten final, the
girl, Chatange Pippi Whitestocking, was sold to Jan Carnes in St.
Louis to begin her show career. I am pleased that a such a nice girl
from my cattery will be shown in another region. The boy, Chatange
Puttin' on the Ritz, for now will remain with me to begin his show
career until I find just the right show/breeder home for him. I have
very high hopes for this boy as he displays all the wonderful
    attributes of both his parents.

If any of you are following the cats in the Almanac it will be an
interesting year for me in the birmans as I am campaining my boy,
Olery. I have high hopes and am determined to do the very best that I
can with him. He is a fine representative of the birman breed and
should be seen by as many judges as possible to promote this wonderful
    breed.

BTW, I have a nice premiership boy available which I would like shown
out of my region. If you have an interest please contact me offline.

Nancy, she is better at pointing out their faults than their
attributes!! So these kitties must really be NICE!

You have worked really hard over the last 3 years, and I'm proud of

23.213We're getting there!GRANPA::CCOLEMANI love Korats!Mon Aug 31 1992 09:4235
Well, this was one of MY biggest shows yet, and I'm SOOOOO excited!

I was at the Feline Forum in Long Island this weekend, and had a blast!
First of all, I hate driving in New York, so it was not pleasant
driving. THEN, when I got to the show, there was another Korat there!
That's not BAD, but the people who owned Mouse (the cat's name is
Passport's Mini Mouse) have been breeding for 18 years! So, I KNEW I
    had some heavy competition!

    Here's how the rings went:

Ring 1: Mouse, Best of Breed
P.A. (my baby!) Second Best of Breed
            No finals for anyone

Ring 2: Mouse, Best of Breed
Robbie (my OTHER baby!) Second Best of Breed
            No finals for anyone

Ring 3: P.A., Best of Breed
            Mouse, Second best
            P.A. - 7th Best SH Cat

Ring 4: P.A. Best of Breed
            Robbie - Second Best
            P.A. - 4th Best Allbreed Cat
                 - Best Shorthair Champion
                 - Best ALLBREED Champion

NEedless to say, I don't need to continue with the other 2 rings, cause
we didn't final there! However, we are 39 points away from Granding! I
gave P.A. AND Robbie TONS of hugs! I'm so proud of my babies! I'm a
    REAL glowing mom!

I hardly every brag, but I feel so proud of myself today!! This
morning, I took Beth in for her leukemia booster. My vet had some
extra time so we stood around and chatted about what a great cat Beth
is. My vet told me that when this pathetic litle creature first showed
up in her exam room, she thought that she didn't have much of a chance,
but when I left, the staff was saying that if anyone could bring her
through, it would be me. And now a year later, my happy, healthy, well
adjusted blind kitty is a great cat because her Mom is a great Mom!!

You know, I read all these notes about how so many of out kitties have
struggled, but without great Moms and Dads like YOU GUYS, they just
wouldn't have made it. So, to all you who have stayed up nights, have
paid vet bills instead of electric bills, who have considered getting
an once of formula into a sick kitty, CONGRATS! While I'm busy patting
myself on the back, I reach out electronically to pat you all on the
    back, too!!

Oh, this is really funny...while my vet was busy telling me how great I
am, one of the techs who was there when Beth had her surgery came by to
see her. Carol hadn't seen Beth since the surgery and told Robin (my
vet) what a great job she had done on Beth's eyes. Carol said Beth
looked like a little teddy bear who's button eyes had fallen off!!!!

Ahem, before Beth contacts The FIRM, I must explain that the picture of
her with her tongue hanging out is one that I took of her mid-yawn. The
expression is one of pure delight and it's just the cutest picture!! I sent
it to Jo to give her a good laugh while she was recuperating. It's a riot.
But, Beth does not want to give the impression that she goes around with
her tongue hanging out. Only dogs do dumb things like that........

Beth loves to be held (I wonder why), and her preference is to be in my
left arm with her paws on my shoulder. From that vantage, she's ready to
take on the world. Last night, I was holding her and happened to be in
front of a mirror. She reached out a paw to the mirror so I got up close
to it and I swear she was busy looking at herself. She looked so cute with
one paw on my shoulder and the other one swatting at the mirror.

Boy, she's a great cat.....

Josette is now closer to her Grand with 146 points. She was as well
behaved as she can get and did manage to get best short haired champion
and 9th best cat in Roger Lawrence's specialty ring. At least it is
better than the 119 points she went in with! She made best of breed
champion in all but 2 rings. I now plan to run with Baby, my chocolate
lynx male, while he is still a youngster! No sitting around for six
months between shows! That is what I did with Joey and now it is
becoming more difficult as she has mentally matured and prefers not to
be at the shows, she would prefer to remain at home and make babies!
Our next shows will be the cape show this weekend working on her
Supreme Grand and then on to the Schenectady show to try and earn those
    last 54 points!

I just gotta brag about this. I'm so proud of myself. A week or
two ago as I was crouched down trying to get Christie (one of the
cats mentioned in the adoption topic) to come near me, a man walked
by and noticed what I was doing. He asked if I liked cats and when
I said yes he told me there was a tiny kitten in his parking space
that he almost didn't see and quite nearly ran over. He went running
down to his car to get the cat for me. It was this tiny little gray
ball of fur. He said he was going to bring it inside but he was
afraid his daughter would want to keep it. I told him that sounded
like a great idea and that perhaps he should keep it. I told him
that if he took it in and for any reason decided he couldn't keep it,
he should bring the kitten to me and I gave him my apartment number.

I didn't hear from him that night so the next day I went by his place
and asked someone what happened to the kitten. That person told me
this man had taken the kitten to his ex-wife's house. I told this
person the same thing I told the original man, that if they didn't
keep it to bring it to me.

I agonized over whether I had made the right decision to talk this
guy into taking the cat. I didn't know anything about him or how he
    handled animals.

Well, last night I ran into this guy with one of his grandchildren. I
asked him whatever happend to the kitten and he told me his daughter
was going to keep it. I asked if it was healthy and he said yes and
told me how they had gotten it a litterbox, collar and toys. I asked
if the kitty went outside and if I would see him (turned out to be a
boy) in the neighborhood and he told me that his daughter would not
let the cat outside and that'd he'd have to bring me over to see it.

I'm soooo excited. I think I stumbled onto a really good home for
this kitty. I just had to brag.

Well, Josette got her "Best Cat" rosette at the TICA show this weekend.
If I have figured correctly she has 1,930 points towards her Supreme
Grand Champion. I read at one of their shows that less than 1% of the
cats registered in TICA achieve this so it is pretty good! We will
need to take her to one more show just to finish off the points. Just
as well, I didn't have the champagne at this show. Now we can do it
right with a little party at the next one! (BTW they need an
additional 2000 pts. beyond the points accumulated for Quadruple Grand
    to
Supreme and one Best Cat as an Quadruple Grand Champion).

Needless to say, Jimmy and I are very proud! WE also met Ruth Laursen

This weekend was the CFF awards banquet. We had a wonderful time, and
were very proud of our national winners this year.

Sweetie (aka, Tu-tone's sweet sixteen) was best Cornish Rex national
and 19th best alter, national. This is the cat who was BEST alter last
year, but then again, he only went to three shows this year.

KYRA (aka, Raham's Kyra of Taliea Manor) was best Turkish Angora
kitten national, 2nd best turkish angora national, and 10TH BEST KITTEN
NATIONAL!! This was SO great to get this award, as Kyra is really my

The trip to Medina, Ohio for the SCBF show was, as usual, the highlight of
the year for me. It was great to see everyone, especially Jo since this
is the only time we get together 'live and in person'. We had good
times with good people ..and lots of wonderful Birmans ..though I have
to admit I spent some time drooling over some of the beautiful examples
of the other breeds as well. Congratulations again to Jo and Nancy and
their successes in Medina. Olery has been doing very well for himself
...and Jo's new Piano Man seems to be making the judges take notice
of the new kid on the block. If fell in love with him on sight. Keep
    up the good work! :^)

This year was extra special for me since it was my first time showing
two cats from my own breeding. Renegade and Offislander went as young
champions so I didn't build my hopes up that they would compete
seriously with 'the big guys'....but I was thrilled to be a part of
    everything.

The kids did me proud, ..and Offislander (my bluepoint boy) knocked my
sox off by going best champion and 9th best cat in Bullota's and D.
Rothermal's sp rings ..and 2nd BOB, best champion and third best
cat in Beck Jones' ring. Although Renegade didn't make any finals, he
placed very well in all rings, including 5th BOB in Becky's ring.
Needless to say, I was walking on air and wearing a silly grin I
    couldn't seem to keep off my face. :^}

Offislander made two finals in the Portland show ..and three this past
weekend in CT ...including Best AB champion and 9th best cat in Walter
Hutzler's ring... So I am now very pleased to introduce....

Again, congrats on Offislander and his ability to grand so quickly. He
is such a nice boy and as Lambie and your girl were sitting downstairs
doing their things almost one year ago, I kept whispering to them,

Well, we went to the Framingham cat show this weekend .. PIMA did quite
    well!

3rd best all breed cat .. Phil Albert
4th best all breed cat .. Chris Kern
5th best shorthair cat .. Ed Topleman

She also got second best Grand Champion in each ring! She picked up a
total of 18 points toword her Master Grand .. hopefully she'll master
    grand by Christmas!

They also had a "spectator's choice" award. This was where all of the

their favorite cat in the show. Well, a number of people came by and

    to enjoy it too.

Dandy finaled in 2 of the 5 rings:

2nd Best Alter and Best Altered Grand Champion from Edd Toepelman
9th Best Alter and Best Altered Gran Champion from Trish Long

Amber finaled in 4 of 5 rings in the HHP Kitten Class:

    	3rd Best HHP " " Edd Toepelman
    	4th Best HHP " " Trish Long
    	5th Best HHP " " Deb Wadsworth

Time to brag on my little Pee Man. He is really holding his own in the
shows. I took him to a one day show in Richmond CA at the end of
August, our first show after Medina and he ended up making all four
finals and being highest scoring kitten in show!! He just gets up
there on the judges stand and shows himself off.

He has continued to do well for us each time we've showed him. Ken
took him down to Santa Monica last weekend to see if he could hold his
own with the campaigners and we were thrilled when he made two LH
finals and an AB with the count being 110 AB.

He now has 1008 kitten points with only 32 rings (kittens are allowed
to count only their top 40 rings). I have him entered in Bremerton, WA
next weekend and we are hoping he will do well since this will be his
last kitten show. He turns 8 months old on September 30th.

My kittens are soooo smart! My little "lynxus" has learned that she
can climb the chair, get onto the kitchen table, hop over to the cart
that has their food, and then hop on to the stove and hence, have
access to the countertops! She is only a little mite and not even 10

23.246kitten points and grand pointsMUTTON::BROWNeverybody run Prom Queen's Gotta Gun!Tue Oct 06 1992 02:4417
    Karen,

Champion points at the qualifier will work just like they do at the
regular shows, although there will probably be more points available
since the qualifiers are bigger than most shows.

Kitten points are figured just like regional points. Best kitten gets
the count - 1 for itself, 2nd best gets 95% of what best got, 3rd best
gets 90% of what best got, 4th gets 85% of what best got, etc. Kittens
are only allowed to count there best 40 rings.

Pee is now a champion. Took him to Costa Mesa and he got his winners
and was best of breed in 5 out of 8 rings! There were 6 Birmans there,
one of whom was a seal male grand. Pee also finaled in two rings. I
can't wait to show him as a champion.

This is more of an "announcement" than a brag (MS Pip tells me that it
    that bragging is not refined).

So, I'd like to announce that Her Loveliness, the Honorable and Lovely
MS Pip S. Pussycat, Esq. had a "studio session" a week and a half ago
at a local photographer's. I received word that her "portfolio" came
back yesterday, and the photographer told me that the photos were
outstanding (and they are, but then the photographer had a gorgeous
subject matter to work with so outstanding photos should be expected),
and that she is planning on having one blown up to 30x20 and placed in
the front studio window. So, if any of you happen to pass by Albert's
Studio at 409 Moody Street in Waltham, MA, and notice a gorgeous Tortie
and white Main Coon apparent, be informed that you are looking at the
likeness of Her Loveliness. It should be in the window in about a
    month.

As locals are aware, Waltham is trying to revitalize and beautify the
downtown area; Ms Pip looks at this as her chance to make a major
    contribution to the later effort.

I rarely recommend someone to the shelter I support, because
if something happened, I would feel the responible party.
But, I really liked this guy and his kids, so I sent him
to the shelter to find a barncat (knowing that there are at
least 10 adults that fit that cattergory (: ) for his barn.
He plans on building a cathouse in the barn so that the cat
will have a safe place to sleep.
Well, he will be bringing home a pair! I was so excited when

Lynne...the percentage of finding wonderful homes that both
the humans and cats are happy....totally out weigh the times when
cats are returned to the shelter or folks are unhappy!!!!!

CONGRATS......There is no better feeling in the world then finding
great homes for the shelter kitties...especially ones that are
considered "barn kitties" because there chances are slimmer!!!

To share another happy story of a shelter kitty.....the man that
lives down the street from me is about 50 years old...he is not
retarded...but a bit slow. He adopted "Buttons" a 3 year old
female from the shelter...and all volunteers were a bit nervous...
so they asked me to stay in touch with him. Well I made the
initial contact...and he now calls me giving me updates. He is
truly in LOVE with Buttons...he has turned his lifesytle upside
down for Buttons....he keeps lists of things she likes and dislikes
so he won't make the mistake of buying something she won't eat...
...he leaves the heat on 68 for her when he is not home...because
he doesn't want her to catch a cold....he feeds her first before
meals...because he doesn't feel right eating in front of her. He
walked to a pet store to buy her toys...and a high quality hard
food.....they have a routine where she lays on him for hours
while he watches TV...and his one comment to me made my day!!!
"GOD...how could I have ever live without the company of this cat!!!"

    Success stories...are the greatest!!

I got my copy of Cats Magazine yesterday, and was flipping through it,
and found that Cattyshack's Judy Garland was CFF's kitten of the year!
There was a nice picture of Judy, and it said the owner was Cindy
    Gerry.

I was thinking of writing in and having them correct the name to
    MamaCin! ;-)

All the other award winners are in there too, but not in an ad like
Cindy's was! They are more like a yearbook mode. I haven't had a chance

loves all the attention and new friends he has.

What a wonderful weekend we had in RI this weekend. Dandy-Lion and

Sat., 10/31

Dandy finaled in all four rings:

		2nd Best Alter Grand Champ.
		4th Best Alter

		9th Best Alter

		6th Best Alter

		10th Best Alter

Amber finaled in two rings and received 2nd Best HHP in each.

		Best Alter
		Best Alter Grand Champ.

		2nd Best Alter Grand Champ.
		4th Best Alter

		8th Best Alter

	Amber finaled in three rings

		Best HHP
		Happy Household Best Cat

		5th Best HHP

		9th Best HHP

and Amber was also crowned "Princess of HHP's" at end of show.

By the way, it was a heartwarming show to see a "one-eyed" Persian-type
cat being shown in the HHP classes and she did very well too. I understand
from one judge that as long as someone mentions a handicap (missing
eye/limb) to the judge before judging starts, this is very much
appreciated because they don't want to mishandle a handicapped cat when
picking it up or placing it on the table.

I saw Cheryl Coleman recently - she says "HI" to everyone!

She wanted me to let you know that "P.A." (female Korat kitten) made
    Grand champion several weekends ago.

Both Robbie and PA have been doing well at shows, but Robbie has grown
into his hormones, so they didn't show him recently. Cheryl's been
going to shows almost every weekend over the past several months.

Cheryl still has 3 kittens from the last batch and is still looking
for homes for them (she said the house is getting just a little too
crowded - no place for humans at this point!). However, there was
enough room to get another female Korat (always room for another
kitty!) - more silver than her others. They call her MIMI, as in

A good suggestion (I thought :^)) for hanging all those rosettes that
just always seem to be in the way...
I took a string of fishing line (20lb. test) and ran it down the hall
way hooked up on tacks. Then you can just slip the rosettes on and
they are all in a row. It is up to you to arrange by color, count,

And for those of you who don't have long hallways like myself, and have
used up all the curtain rods and framed prints on the walls, I also use
the heavy duty picture hooks that come with a roll of wire. These
hooks are for hanging heavy framed pictures/prints without damaging
walls. Like Karen does with the fishing line, I string the picture
line from one heavy duty hook to another across the walls of the "kitty

Congrats to Cheryl and Karen for granding their girls! We granded the
Pee Man at the beginning of December. Vicki Dickerson made him best LH
champion and 2nd Best Cat which put him over the 200 point mark. :')
The next weekend he made 5 out of 8 finals as a new grand, including
another 2nd Best Cat from Vicki.

To display our rosettes, Ken and I hang a large (sliding glass door
size) vinyl mini blind (1/2" works well) in our cat room. The hooks
on the back of the rosettes slide in between the blinds to hook them
on. With the blind, you can have a whole wall of rosettes! :')

Well, it's finally time for me to brag.

This weekend was the CFF show in Mansfield, MA. Kyra didn't make any
finals on Saturday, but did make some one Sunday.

She got a 10th best cat from Marge Collier, a 10th best cat from Chris
Kern, and a 2nd best cat and best LH champion from Bob Stamatis.

But that's not all! Because of these wins I am VERY proud to announce

    I'm thrilled that both boys have granded, ..but my joy is bittersweet;
Since Offislander has such a headstart on getting regional points the
plans are to retire Renegade from showing and give Offislander a chance to
see how well he can do until the end of the show year. It's the

Well, it's time to Brag again.

As most of you know, I was on vacation for the past week. I went to
the CFF show in Orlando, Florida. I brought PIMA (My mother's Cornish
Rex) and Kyra (My turkish angora) with me.

Kyra did wonderful! She finaled in 6 of the 7 rings she could be shown
in (She couldn't be shown in one because we rode down with the judge).
She got a second best grand champion, 2 10th best cats, 1 9th best cat,
    1 8th best cat ...

    AND A BEST CAT!!!

For those of you who don't know how to score in CFF, she needed this
BEST CAT in order to become a Master Grand Champion. She also needs a
total of 100 cumulative points. She received a total fo 32 points in
this show. She's 1/3 of the way there!! Hopefully, she'll be a Master
Grand Champion before the end of the show season.

Now it's REALLY time to brag: My dear PIMA Finaled in 3 rings and

Let Farnham out into the pool room, which door we leave ajar cuz his
cat door to the outside world is there. A few minutes later we hear
this almighty splash (and it's cold in the pool room, maybe 35-40 at
this time of the year, except when the sun is shining when it can get
up to 70 even if the water scarcely gets above 40). We rush out, but
it's ok - Farnham fell in but somehow leaped out even though water
level is wayy down. What a cat!

I took advantage of a $5 rabies clinic at my vet's last night.
(1 cat didn't get his shots as he was ill at the time)

Anyway, a woman brought her 3 cats to be vaccinated, and when
she opened the door of her van, one of the cats got loose in the
parking lot. (which is 10 feet away from a busy main road).
(That they were not in a carrier or at least on a leash is another
topic we should discuss!) I went in, got my cat the shot, and
when I came out, they still hadn't caught the cat. So, I was
a good fellow cat owner and put my cat in the car so I could help.
The poor thing was terrified, and at this point there were 10
people milling about trying to catch the cat. It got chased to
where it climbed up into the van engine, and after the owner opened
the hood, I quickly grabbed a handful of scruff and nabbed the kitty.

I was imagining this poor cat becoming road pizza, let me tell you...

The CFA show in RI last weekend was fun in spite of the undertone of
sadness from the recent passing of fellow cat-fancier, Bob Hoffman. He
was in alot of our thoughts this weekend.... ...and while at the show
we learned of the passing of CFA judge Bob Everett while on his way to
a judging assignment. One of the nicest things about the cat fancy is
that there are so many great folks who are there for each other during
    the sad times.

    Karen,

I am so glad we finally met. ...Talk about instant friends! Running
into you at BXC on Monday morning felt like running into a long-lost
    sister. :^)

Your kids are great. Cassie is very elegant.. I love Lynx' markings
..and Little Drak is a character. :^) I guess the judges must have
liked them too ..from the number of ribbons hanging on their cages.
:^) Congrats on Ruby's new litter! We'll be looking for those babies
in the show hall in a few months. :^)

The Birmans did very well this weekend. ..Including Darlene's (remember
Melange) Birman premier, Lucky, who made all 8 finals. I told her having
all those rosettes on Lucky's cage was tacky and gaudy. :^) :^)

Showing Offislander was a joy to me, as always, ..and I was delighted

Lynxette made Best All Breed Champion in Hazel Lindstrands ring and
also Best SHort Hair Champion. The little devil is now up to 63 points

new season starts. I was told that she has very nice boning for a
white, which should help. We will see what the future brings.

There was also an AWESOME Chartreux Male attending all the way from
California (Debbie is nice Jo!). What a guy....

Jenny adopted a very small kitten from the shelter and has been working

mellow cat that loves people and loves to be held in "weird" positions.
He can even play dead in her arms and is already trained in the stretch

I took Mondo (AKA Mysinhs Quicksilver Girl) to her first show this
weekend in Eugene, Oregon. It was her first show, her first trip in
the carrier (besides the vet trips), and her first time on a airplane.
She was great! She never let out a peep on the plane, was great in the
hotel room, and did very well at the show.

We were benched by a set of metal stairs, and other than her being a
bit afraid the first day whenever anyone clomped up and down those
stairs she was fine. She made Jean Grimm's AB kitten final that day,
    placing 9th Best Kitten.

The second day was much better. The stairs no longer bothered her and
she figured out how much fun it was to let all those nice judges handle
and play with her. She came out of her shell and began showing off.
The first ring was Brian Moser's LH ring, and we nearly missed the
ring. Patsy's (my traveling companion) car battery died during the
night and when we came out to go to the show, it wouldn't even turn
over. We ended up finding another exhibitor to give us a jump and
arrived at the hall just as they were second calling Quickie to Brian's
ring. Brian gave her a good looking over, even though she was the only
Birman kitten. I had never seen him judge before, but he seemed to
like her. When it came time for the final, he called her back. After
he had awarded his 5th Best Kitten to a Bi-color Persian, he took out
Quickie and I wrote her down as 4th in my book....but, much to my
delight, after he said a few nice things about her type and show
personality, he held her up and said "this is my best kitten in
show!!" It was great because it was so unexpected.

She made the other three finals on Sunday too, a 4th Best LH kitten
from Vicki Dickerson, a 4th Best AB kitten from Joan Benson, and a 8th
Best AB kitten from Betty Denny. Not bad for her first show, 5 out of
    8 finals. :')

I am really looking forward to showing her this season.

Well, I've just GOT to do a little bragging about our crew !!

As some of you may have read, we have quite the menagerie at our home -
I have 2 canines and 3 felines who own *me* and my housemate has 3
canines (one is "sorta" my son's) and 2 felines..........

For the first time, this weekend, ALL TEN ANIMALS were loose together
running, roaming, playing, cavorting all over the place !!!!!
The only real exception is Neely, who's the 16-17 year old feline who
pretty much just stays in *her* place and wants **nothing** to do with
   the others !!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was so much fun and so amazing to see 5 dogs, ages 6 months to 2-1/2
years getting along so well with 4 of the cats, ages 5 months to 1-1/2
   years !!!!!!!!!!!!

   HURRAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
   The "Baker's Dozen" :
Debbi & Neely, Peanut, Lipton, Missy, Patches (felines, last 3 adoptees
        	from the PB Shelter)
& Cocoa, Spike, Topper, Kain, Roscoe (the canines)

Last weekend in Portland Moonsta's Elfin Fudge Magic made her first

between allbreed and specialty. Choco got 3 and Lynx got 2. I forget
what the placement was, it is getting hard to keep track without my
catalog at my side!! Walter Hutzler really appreciated her eyes, but I
am surprised he didn't do his little talk about "snake eyes"! The
judges also have been commenting on the pure color of Choco and that it
is very rare for them to see a chocolate lynx of such good and clear
color. I didn't think it was rare! Oh, well...

Ok, this isn't really cat related but I didn't want to
start another note just for this so...

As some of you might know, I've been making my own jewelry
for close to a year now. Mostly it's been stuff for myself
and as gifts for friends and relatives. Well I've recently
been approached by someone at work to make some gifts for her
to give for Christmas AND I've had a friend offer to display/
sell some of my things in her boutique affiliated with her
Jazzercise franchise. This means I have to come up with a
name for my "business" and make it all legal etc.. This is
    	all very exciting for me.

But I do have one holdup. I can't think of a catchy name for
the business! Since this crowd is usually pretty good with
names for our fuzzfaces I thought I'd ask here for ideas. I
don't want to use cat related names though because what I make
doesn't have anything to do with cats other than the three of
them trying to "help" when I'm creating. =)

These are some I and a friend have come up with thus far but
nothing really "grabs" me ya know?

    	All That Glitters
    	JJ's Jems
    	Razzle Dazzle
    	Jewel of the ???

Any of you have any brainstorms? I make most of my jewelry out
of natural stone and glass beads if that helps.

    	Thanks!

Onyx was his usually no-personality but well groomed self on the
judging table and still managed to walk away with 10th Best HHP,
7th Best HHP, 7th Best HHP and 2nd BEST HHP.

This was MacGuyver's first show. He's still not sure how he feels
about it. He doesn't particularly like to be groomed (especially
under the arms, stomach and back legs...which is really a pain since
he's a longhaired cat). Well, he counted and he was groomed at

I am happy to say that I met some more "read only" feliners along with
some old regulars this past weekend! Choco earned herself a new nick
name, "Foghorn". She can be very voiciferous and would clear the
aisles of people as we worked our way to and from the rings :'}.

She took 6 best of breeds out of 8 and 6 best champions out of the 8.
She also made second best shorthair champion in Donna Fullers Allbreed
ring. We are very pleased, as it gives us 40+ points towards her
grand. Chessie did not fair as well, but made many friends with her
    charming demeanor.

Jimmy on the other hand won himself one of the Fancy Feast plush

Well, Ashlar and Joey (2 of my foster cats) just completed their first
show ever. It was my club's (Tails & No Tales Cat Club) show.

Getting ready for this show was a real treat. After spending the
entire day setting up the show I went home to bathe cats. I discovered
during their 2nd-ever bath that both cats are part octopus...all arms.
Got a small scratch on the nose and Joey tried to bolt from the sink
but mostly I just got wet.

Ashlar's bath was complicated. Pulled him out of the water to get
him dry and managed to bleed on him. He's all white so back to the
sink we go. Got him all wiped off and attempted to dry him again.
Turn on the blow dryer and it scared him so badly he peed right there
on the spot...then sat in it. Back to the sink we go. Decided he
could dry himself after that and he seemed much happier with that
    arrangement.

Anyway...the reason I'm in here is to tell you how they did at the
show. I was really expecting Ashlar to do quite well because he's
such a mush when you pet him. He just falls all over himself trying
to get scratched in just the right way. Unfortunately, only 1 judge
took a second and scratched him behind the ears. As it turns out Joey
walked away with the most ribbons and he was basically just along for
    the ride.

My roomates cat Isis does something really wild. She goes over to the
easy chair, gets up to the part your head lays on, reaches over with both paws
and rests them on the door knob. She then leans on the door knob, pushes with
her hind legs, and turns the knob with her 2 paws, and she opens the door to my
roomates room! My roomate has said she did this, but until I saw her do it with
my own 2 eyes, I never would have believed it.

She is also very good at shutting off light switches. She jumps up
until she can pull down on it. It's fun to watch, but annoying when you're
taking a shower. :-)

flick on from the open basement door.....I got a little scared, as no
one else was home just Navajo and me. so I go over to the stairway and
call down to whomever might be down there...but only Navajo is down
there....naaaaaaa he couldn't have turned them on, could he ? well then
I notice that the lights that are on are the shop ones, which are not
on the light switch at the top of the stairs....these light are turned
on/off by a string....Navajo climb on top of the table and a toolbox to
reach the string and (I guess after watching me do this) put the lights
on for himself ! silly cat....:')

Well, I finally did it. I broke down and spent money on a brand
new cat tree (like I have money to blow on this stuff). It's a
cat tree that can handle 8 cats. A tree to be proud of. A work
    of art. :^)

My original cat tree is very small and suited more to 1-2 cats.
Plus it's already 9 years old and shredded like crazy.

The tree was delivered last week. The cats ran like hell when
they saw it coming through the door. I kept trying to bring cats
out of hiding to see it and they wouldn't have anything to do with
what they thought was a monster from the depth that had come to
    devour them.

    It's beautiful...blue base, 3 blue platforms, 1 blue crow's nest,
3 cream poles, 1 sisal rope pole. It's probably the nicest piece
of furniture in my house. :^)

It didn't take long. Shortly after the Bob (from Katrees, the vendor)
left I brought them all out one by one and put them on it. It took
about 1/2 an hour but soon the tree was the center of attention.

Now, you can find 3-4 cats sitting on it at any given time. The
love it. They're using it to scratch on instead of my furniture.

    Happy, happy, joy, joy

We have granded a few kitties in our history, all lynx points. Some
of our own breeding and others we have purchased. D'white is of
our own breeding and the first Blue-eyed White Oriental to become a
grand! He is now a Grand Premier! It only took him 3 shows with
3 Best Allbreed wins and 2 Best short hair wins, and I think a
2nd best sh win. We have championed a few of our whites, but never
granded. I hope this is a new beginning as I watch Ruby's little
    white ones grow.
Congratulations to: GP Moonsta's D'White Frye!!

GC Thaibo Calais of Moonsta is now the second Best of Breed Nationally
and Best of Color. In the Region he is Best of Breed. For those
of you who haven't seen Cally at one of the shows, he

I have a cat that is part dog. K.D. has a favorite toy. It's a
superball. I bounce it down the hall, and she goes mental trying to tackle it!
Once she has it wrestled to the ground, she picks it up in her mouth, brings it
back to me, and drops it on the floor, waiting for me to toss it again. She
will do this until she is tired of running after the ball. Crazy cat! :-)

      IRL...... 4 week old kittens!

My daughters mother cat surprised me August 29th and 30th with
    such a wonderful experience.

I woke up in the morning and felt a furry thing near
my face. I opened my eyes slowly and was looking at one of the
kittens she had 4 weeks ago. Then I realized things were crawling
on me. I sat up a bit and there were all 4 kittens on my bed! the
mother cat sat at the end of the bed and watched while I played
with them a bit. I then left them on the bed and left to take
my shower , I came back and they were back in the other room.

She did it again this the next morning! They are so soft and so
    adorable and tiny!

I always hope no one stops by my cube while I'm reading such a note, as
I always have tears either welling up or running down my face and it
would be difficult to explain, except to another animal-person.

And, the guys always get extra hugs when I get home, whether I've read
a note or heard some sad news about other kitties (or like today, they
get guilt hugs cause I have to take them to the vets for shots!)

I'm glad we have this notes file, where there are others who understand

That's because every time she says "Kitty" you make a lot of oooh's and

Be happy she's stuck on the word "kitty". That's a pleasant word.
It could be worse. She could be stuck on the word "No" so that
everything you say to her receives a firm NO in response. Now that

With all of the bad news we've been hearing about lately, I'd like to
make a suggestion and see what everyone thinks.

Occasionally, we hear good news about people that have "gone above and
beyond" the call of duty when it comes to their cats or dogs (or pets
in general). Also, with the information highway being what it is today,
we also sometimes have the ability to get messages to these people.

I think it would be nice, when we hear these stories, to contact the
people involved and just let them know that their fellow feliners (or
whatever the case may be) appreciate what they've done.

Here's an example that's a sad story that turned triumphant.

A person I work with adopted a female cat. Being an outdoor cat and
before they had a chance to have her spayed, she became a mommy cat
giving birth to 4 beautiful kittens. Here's the sad part. Just 2 days
after giving birth, the mother was hit by a car and killed. Now having
4 two day old kittens and being beside herself (actually she AND her
husband) they contacted the local vet to get advice. They spent lots of
bucks buying sepcial formula and hand feeding the kittens all day and
all night long. The husband would do the feeding during the day, then
Pat would do the feeding at night. The husband is Phil by the way. I'm
sure you can all realize what a chore this was and how touch and go
things were. The triumphant part of the story is that the kittens are
ALL 7 weeks old now and doing great. Pat is keeping two, and already has
parents for the other two for next week. Considering what other less
dedicated people might have done, I think this is great.

If anyone would like to send a message to Pat, she can be reached at
    PBourgoine@mail.dec.com (Exchange mail) or PBourgoine@snax.enet.dec.com
