403.0. "Small cat on 495 North" by LEZAH::KARENK () Fri Sep 25 1992 10:05

    I was driving home last night about 3:30. I got onto the 495 North exit
    and noticed a cat on the side of 495. I was merging onto traffic at
    that point and I couldn't stop.

    I took the next exit off, turned around and slowed down near the area
    where I saw him. I got out and looked around but couldn't find him.

    Has anyone else seen this cat/kitten on 495. I'm assuming some jerk
    dropped him off. The poor little thing. He was just sitting there
    staring at the traffic. I thought about him all night.

    My 2 kitties are safe at home in bed, and this poor little guy is out
    there. If anyone sees him again, let me know. I'll take him if no one
    else wants him. (My husband will have a fit, but he'll get over it!).

    Thanks,

    karen

    	You don't say what section of 495. But many feliners have
    	seen a kitty or kitties on 495 in the Littleton/Westford
    	area. Seems to be a popular 'dumping' spot for whatever
    	reason.  =(

    Oops, sorry I didn't mention what section of 495. It's been a crazy
    week. I was taking 495 North off of Rt. 20 in Marlboro. The cat (it was
    small, could be a kitten) was sitting on the grass right as you merge
    onto 495 traffic.

    It also could have been feral and would keep running away as you try to
    approach it. There are many feral cats in the Marlboro area, so it
    might not have been dumped there.

    	Sandy,

    	I thought of that too - but the kitten I found was in Hudson
    	on Rte 62 - a little too far from the Marlboro/Rte 20 exit.

    On my drives in to work, lately, I have noticed more and more cats
    killed by the side of the road. Is that prevelant this time of
    year?

    How sad. I thought of the perfect way to keep pets safe and
    stop the over-population growth of unwanted kittens and puppies
    but I don't think it would be well received. It'll probably
    start World War III ... but it would work.

    I am so saddened when I see an animal (ANY animal) on the side
    of the road...it ruins my day. Does make me appreciate Otis
    more, however. Poor Otis doesn't know what's going on when I
    come home on those days ... and I kiss him, want to hold him
    tightly and always keep him in sight!

403.7So sad...ISLNDS::URBANFri Sep 25 1992 13:1111
    It's so sad, but I swear this year I've never seen so many dead animals
    on the roads. I can't look...it makes me feel like I'm driving a death
    machine. I'll slow down and stop for any animal/bird. I actually saw
    someone try to hit a squirrel that was crossing the road, and I saw a
    pick up go off the road onto the sidewalk to try to hit a cat. I would
    have gotten this guys license if I hadn't been walking at the time.

    My kitties stay in where it's safe...they're happy and I don't have to
    worry about these things.

    I believe Autumn is when there are more animals out prowling in the
    evenings than any other season. Isn't it something instinctive about
    prepping for the winter?

    While on vacation, I found a little kitty dead in the road. At least
    he seemed to have died quickly and without any visible injury.

    All I could do was pick him up and place him out of the way of other cars.
    It's bad enough to lose a kitty, the owners didn't need to find it
    all mangled in the road.
